Worth Watching - Aug 2: Jonathan Demme's Rachel Getting Married Trailer

Sony Pictures Classics has unveiled the trailer for Jonathan Demme's Rachel Getting Married trailer. This through and through feels like a movie we should be watching during Sundance and not in the middle of a hot summer. What is Sony doing?! As heartfelt as this looks in the end, I'm seriously worried that it's going to be this year's Margot at the Wedding. Just because Anne Hathaway is in it and just because Jonathan Demme directed it doesn't mean it will be any good unfortunately. You may like what you see, and I'm not saying it is instantly bad, but this really is not the right time or place to be showing this movie. Alas, it is premiering at the Toronto Film Festival, so we at least have that to look forward to.

Rachel Getting Married is directed by Oscar winning filmmaker Jonathan Demme, of Married to the Mob, Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, and The Manchurian Candidate previously. The script was written by newcomer Jenny Lumet. Sony Pictures Classics is debuting Rachel Getting Married at the Toronto Film Festival this September and will set a release date for later in the year after its premiere.

I don't think I will be watching this one ... I prefer to watch Death at a Funeral (2007) again than this one ... 😉

Looks good. Could this be Anne's Oscar flick???? It looked rpetty funny and I get what you mean by MARGOT because it does have that same feel with the grade A cast and crew, but falls flat and all the good stuff was in the trailer. I'll check this out but for some reason I though Rachel McAdams was in this??? and not b/c of the title.

An interesting role for Anne Hathaway. I think it looks interesting but not amazing.

Sounds like a good sunday night movie.. And nice to see Hathaway in a "different" role for once! Thats what makes the trailer interesting at least for me. "...And may the only up and downs.. come in the bedroom!"

I did not recognize Debra Winger, maybe I was distracted by Hathaway...and Bill Irwin, for god's sake. I love "This is exactly like it is in heaven..." Wow, heavy...no, really! Jonathan Demme's next movie should be a documentary about how he gets Talking Heads back together for a killer concert movie.!!!!
