Kazuaki Kiriya's Goemon Teaser Trailer

Whoa! I don't really know what this is, but considering even I was blown away, I had to share it. Thanks to Twitch we've got the first teaser trailer for a Japanese film called Goemon. It comes from visionary filmmaker Kazuaki Kiriya, who a few may recognize from a 2004 film called Casshern. Kiriya uses some sort of beautiful combination of CGI and live-action stunt work to make a film that looks like a full length video game cinematic. Although this teaser trailer doesn't show much, I still really want to see it, as I'm just enjoying the hell out of his unique visual style. Definitely take a look at this today if you've got the time!

For more info, head to the official website for the film:

Goemon is both written and directed by Japanese filmmaker Kazuaki Kiriya, of only Casshern previously. The screenplay was co-written by Kiriya and Tetsurô Takita. The film hits theaters in Japan next May, but no word on when we'll see it in the US just yet. Apparently Warner Brothers is releasing this in theaters over here as well, so I expect we'll hear more sometime soon. In the meantime, check out their website.

Casshern was a dope movie. The only problem with me was the CGI. Did'nt have that much money but other than that as a whole. SOLID MOVIE!!!

I would say it looks pretty sweet, but the trailer is way to short to confirm the true value of this film. Jazz... Trailer Critic

Cool music, anyone knows it's name? 0:12-0:18 thx

It used to be that I would comment on how much video games were looking like real it seems real life is looking too much like video games. Hard to tell from such a short clip, but that looked over the top CGI'd.

schizznic on Dec 12, 2008

Casshern was an odd film, visually it was incredible, so packed full of great ideas and beauty, but the story was bananas and hard to follow, saying that, I didn't really care, because a flying man could cut through robots with his kungfu. I love this approach to films, they are more like paintings. Dragonballs could have been like this.

Crapola on Dec 12, 2008

Ninjas, baby! It's all about ninjas. When I was a kid I wanted to grow up to be a ninja.

Dookie on Dec 12, 2008

Holy snot!!! I can't wait to see this!!

Jeremy on Dec 12, 2008

Why couldn't they let this guy make Dragonball?

James on Dec 12, 2008

I saw Casshern, the cinematography & over all set & costume design was superb. The story as others have mentioned is odd and hard to follow. Some of the directors way of bringing the story was executed poorly, to the directors defence this was his first movie to direct. I am a sucker of anime so too me the movie had enough to join my collection. As a filmmaker , there is a lot from Casshern that can be learned from, this new one looks to keep the same tone, I am looking forward to see how he has hopefully improved on his directing.

looks badass.

I had troubles liking Casshern...which also had a good trailer. This teaser looks also great, although very cheesy animation.

Casshern was an overdramatic, silly, over-the-top, glorified power rangers, final fantasy-esque monstrosity. Why the hell are movies like this allowed to be made? Who funds this ridiculous bullshit?! Five year old Japanese kids with rich and powerful daddies?

JL on Dec 12, 2008

It has a very anime look to it and I liked it.

Unseen on Dec 12, 2008

Casshern is absolutely the worst DVD that I have! Cheesy CG and terrible story telling. It was so bad that I skipped scenes, but even with that...I just gave up on the movie and didn't finish. soooooooo bad.

Matt Suhu on Dec 12, 2008

Casshern is such a shit movie. I remember the first time I saw the trailer I absolutely shit my pants and pretty much told all my friends and family about it. It ended up being one of the stupidest movies I've ever seen... the DVD is somewhere in my garage along with Batman and Robin. The only good thing about Casshern was the soundtrack. As for the Goemon teaser, I'm not even fooled this time around. Looks like Casshern part 2. Even the last shot is a total rip from Casshern where he slices the robot in half to reveal his face.

heath on Dec 12, 2008

l liked the visual style a whole lot. need to know something about the story.

dan on Dec 12, 2008

No, dan, you really don't. And if it's eating you up that bad, watch Casshern and you'll have all the gut-wrenching info you need. Then you won't be left wondering for the next... however long it is until this movie comes out about whether you actually want to watch it.... 'cause if it's anything like Casshern, you don't.

JL on Dec 12, 2008

very star wars looking( you know like the scene with yodi and christopher plummer fighting in attack of the clones, cool fight but very fake looking)

ralph on Dec 12, 2008

Wow live action anime style action.

Jimd on Dec 12, 2008

WOW! Is that awesome or what!!! Thanks for the teaser!

AZMT on Dec 12, 2008

If this guy directed Casshern for six million, my source is, what could he have done with 100 million for Dragonball? I want to see what this director can do, because his movies are way better than the gay leaf jumping type of fighting that you see in asian cinema anymore.

MrSammich on Dec 13, 2008

Couldn't tell if it was CG or real.................

insanartist on Dec 13, 2008

Looks cool, I'll keep an eye on this one.

Syphous on Dec 13, 2008

Ralph #19, ......WHAT? Are you on crack or is that some form of humor? Yodi? Christopher Plummer? It was Yod-A and he fought Christopher Lee. Even people who don't know Star Wars know Yoda.

JL on Dec 13, 2008

ha ha cool. it does look a lot like a video game but also kinda like spykids 3. i'm still interested though. i'm with #8 i bet this guy could have made a kickass dragonball

Silver on Dec 14, 2008

Short trailers, for this type of movie, usually indicates a lot of CGI as it hasn't been completed and there isn't enough live action to show. CGI should be the "salt to taste" not the whole meal.

Defeatedfrog on Dec 14, 2008

It looks like the guy from Aragami is in it!!! Looks freakin awesome!

exodus_127 on Dec 14, 2008

i just went from 6 to midnight!!! this looks sick!!!

Digs on Dec 15, 2008

Lets just say this the Asians (Japanese/China.South Korea, etc) they know how to make a good and stunning movies that most of the time Shit over the US Movies , I would rather watch a Asian Movie with Subtitles , than Most of the US Crap thats coming out at the moment .

Mulder on Dec 15, 2008

For a site that ragged on the super crappy Dragon ball trailers, I'm curious as to why you think this looks so good? It won't even hit niche markets, at least here in America.

adrian on Dec 17, 2008

The only thing I hate more than movies like this is people who bash anything American. The best movies in the world are made in America. This doesn't even look like a good cartoon, let alone a good movie.

Frank Castle Jr on Dec 18, 2008

i wanna see a ninja gaiden movie too 😀

burak "daequitas" on Dec 22, 2008

Casshern was terrible. Wild visuals that couldn't be matched by its horrendous excuse for a script. Hopefully this won't be as bad.

Manfred Powell on Dec 24, 2008

You say Goemon wouldn't do good in the US huh? Well have you looked at the new full length trailer? it's already getting buzz around the Internet. I think Goemon will have a high chance of beating Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon at the Box Office. I mean Warner Bros is definitly going to give this a wide release because this is one of the first Japanese movies that doesn't look low budget. ...And am I the only one who thinks the new Dragonball movie looks awesome. So what if they changed a few things
