Ghost Town Trailer

This is what you get when you ask for originality in Hollywood. Ghost Town stars British comedian Ricky Gervais as a dentist who dies for seven minutes while getting a colonoscopy. When he awakes, he discovers that he can see ghosts and his usually quiet life is suddenly turned upside down. Gervais is actually a much funnier comedian in real life than he is on the big screen, which is generally why this looks so bad. I'd almost rather watch Over Her Dead Body instead, but thankfully this doesn't look that terrible. I'm actually curious to know more about Greg Kinnear's character's story and might check this out simply for that. But overall I'm unimpressed, but maybe I'm just not getting it. Did anyone else laugh?

Ghost Town is co-written and directed by David Koepp, of The Trigger Effect, Stir of Echoes, and Secret Window previously. The screenplay was written by both Koepp and John Kamps, of The Borrowers and Zathura. Paramount is releasing Ghost Town starting on September 19th this fall.

haha! "hope to see you soon" to which he replies "what a terrible thing to say in a hospital" priceless.

come on, there was not even one really funny scene in this trailer.

so you think a horror musical with paris hilton is going to be great but you think this is stupid.....

It doesn't look that good but I'm not goin' to knock it yet. With Ricky Gervais staring in it gets some credit and it looks a lot better than Over Her Dead Body but that isn't saying much.

I don't know. I thought Gervais was funny in the trailer.

If you can stand British humor, go on iTunes and search for the Ricky Gervais show. There are 3 seasons, and its more of a radio show than a "audiobook" as its listed there. It is one of the funniest shows I have ever heard. Comedy gold!

I love british comedy, so this trailer I thought was great. Im definately going to see this movie as long as the trailer keep impressing me. Yeah there wasn't a really funny scene because you need a punch in the face or a lame joke to keep you happy you desensitized prick, this is real mentally stimulating comedy, not your average every day mind-numbing Mike Myers piece of crap.

I heard of this film last week when I saw it on the list of films already announced for the Toronto International Film Festival. I might check it out.

Yikes. Hasn't this been done over and over and over? This idea is as dead as the folks following Gervais around in this...

Gervais looks like he'd rather be somewhere else - the movie looks boring.

While I didn't laugh out loud at anything in the trailer, it at least put a smile on my face. It looks like one of those movies that is just plain enjoyable to watch, but nothing over-the-top hilarious. I'll probably see it because Gervais has done such great stuff before.

I liked Ricky G in GTA4

"Dies for seven minutes during a colonoscopy"? Are you serious? This sounds like something a 15-year-old would pitch..."See, it's funny...he dies during a *colonoscopy*!" Makes me wonder if the original pitch had him dying during a prostate exam. That said, Ricky Gervais is funny, but in a one-note kind of way. He has to play a certain character over and over and over again. And you can only take so much of that. Small doses. "The Office" was brilliant because it was the first time most of us had seen him in action. But then we realized that was his schtick.

Agree with #14 although i did like him in Extras.

Technically you can die from a colonoscopy if you have blood thinning agent of medicinal or herbal nature in your system and they remove a polyp. Though usually the hospitals ask you to cease ingesting or imbibing such thinners a week before the scheduled operation.

I laughed. Does that make me a Hitler?

DCompose on Jul 14, 2008

Also, who said he died during the colonoscopy? Nobody's seen the movie. Maybe he went in again for something else. Maybe he got shot in the stomach. Maybe something else that you can't see from A FUCKING TRAILER.

DCompose on Jul 14, 2008

Dcompose, it does say in the trailer that he died during the colonoscopy. He discusses it with the nurse while that big black dude stands there. It was funny. Just don't get why they had him die during *that* particular procedure. It just sounds like a juvenile joke...and the comedy seems a little more high brow than that.

gervais' humour stems from awkward situations and drawn out moments...the trailer was cut a bit too rapidly to capture that but i think it will be evident on screen

Seems kind of like a cross between the TV show Dead Like Me and the movie Ghost. Nonetheless, it should be a decent romcom if Gervais is in it.

I really hope this bombs - the Gervais ego really needs deflating, quickly.

Robert on Jul 14, 2008

It looked worse and worse as it went on. I'll wait for the reviews

Eva Longoria or Ricky Gervais? Hmmm...not much comparison. After I read that David Koepp wrote and directed it, then I became more interested. He's got some chops.

Alex on Jul 14, 2008

Mediocore and I think the September release date proves it.

Ryan on Jul 14, 2008

28

I did laugh out at the shoes line but as far as I can tell, the film is a thinly veiled romance comedy so I don't think I'll bother when it arrives.

Chris on Jul 15, 2008

29

I think this is more of a spoof of all those other movies with the same premise, hence the dying from a colonoscopy. Also if you like British humor or Ricky Gervais in Extras, this looks to be the same type of comedy from him. As for myself, I will watch this, as I love anything Ricky does! It's probably not going to be hilarious or anything too amazing, but I imagine it will be enjoyable.

Jesse on Jul 15, 2008

it looks like it's a cute movie, but nothing spectacular. But, Gervais is funny, so maybe it's worth it- in-flight movie, dvd, cable, or absolutely nothing else to see at theatres in February?!

"sensitive gag reflex".....*spray spray*......*gag* that made me laugh. i actually don't think it's that bad. not a box office topper, but not shabby either.
