Worth Watching - May 29: Fred Durst's The Longshots Trailer
The trailer for Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst's football drama The Longshots has debuted. Remarkably, this looks very heartwarming and enjoyable - like a good flick to enjoy with the family around Thanksgiving or Christmas. But nope, it comes out late July. What a pity! Plus I thought Kevin had already singled out Ice Cube as the #7 worst rapper turned actor working today, but there he is, still acting. And he doesn't seem that bad. Although a few of you may tear this trailer to pieces, I think there's always a need for good, heartwarming family films. This one may not exactly be your cup of tea, but that doesn't mean those kinds of movies can't still be out there for others to enjoy. Thoughts?

Ice Cube has been in some decent movies, so why does he get a bad rap? Ha.

Don't like Fred Durst. Don't like Ice Cube. I will definitely see this movie.

Worth Watching .... Sorry but Noooo ... This trailer is nothing and we saw a lot of movies like that ...and even having a girl in a boy team happened in real life it still not a good idea for making a movie ... and for Ice Cube ...I just remember him from Three kings and that is because of Mark Wahlberg and George Clooney ... otherwise I don't see him as an actor ... Maybe Friday was good comedy but come on... he was not that funny ...

I get the impressionthat IceCube is playing a 2 x 4 playing a working class man. If anything else was made evident by this trailer, it's that fred durst, no matter what artistic field he applies himself to, will always suck.
SylvainMustach on May 29, 2008
Wow, is the voice-over cliche or what?
Alex on May 29, 2008
Feh, maybe if I have nothing too do. Looks very predictable
Iron Man Fan on May 29, 2008
Okay...maybe. But i swear if Ice Cube isn't at the 'big game' for some cockamamie reason and she gets all pouty and then overcomes it against all odds, I swear I'll...
Karni on May 29, 2008
Maybe? Are you FN kidding me? No. Not at all. The fact that anyone would even consider this a film is the reason why American cinema is in it's death throes. When will people smarten up and start demanding a little bit of quality from Hollywood so we don't have to put up with this kind of sappy crap every weekend? Fred Durst? Ice Cube? WTF?! *head explodes*

I like Cube but I had to stop the trailer. Proud to say, I couldn't sit through that one.

This movie doesn't really look all that bad, except the voice over was terrible. With a better narrator this movie would actually look pretty interesting. But instead, it comes off as too cheesy.

ehhhh whatever, pass.
Scorpio on May 29, 2008
Maybe this is just the editing, but everything everyone said in that trailer sounded lame.
DCompose on May 29, 2008
Cube be makin solid family flicks.why yall hatin?looks like a christmas movie tho, July?!
Cyfer1 on May 29, 2008
You all right Cyfer? Sounds like you might have had a stroke.

Just like in Air Bud 2: The Golden Receiver
Raul Duke on May 29, 2008
I disagree. I think this looks good...very warm and fuzzy. I thought there was a lot of funny lines in it. The girl was the main character in Akeelah and the Bee and she was pretty good in that although it seems like she is playing the same gifted yet distant child role.

I wanna believe in this movie cause I want Fred Durst to make a comeback, and I don't know why. I don't know why I want this guy to succeed. Maybe cause he wrote "Rollin'" and "Break Stuff." Maybe if he does well in movies he will make more music like Hot Dog, where he says 'fuck' a buncha times. I want the glory days back. And maybe The Longshots is the key.
DCompose on May 29, 2008
DCompose, are you being sarcastic? And failing that, are you drunk, high, insane or ten years old?
AJB on May 29, 2008
Lame trailer..but it might be an okay movie..and I don't get all the Ice Cube hate..he is actually good at some roles..which is better than half the actors out their who can only play one character. I will gladly jump on the Ice Cube band wagon, he might not be an A+ level actor..but he sure is a lot better than some 'mainstream' actors.
Kyle A. K. on May 30, 2008
AJB: Hahahahahahaha, thanks. I needed that after being stunned by DCompose's post.

What studio exec thought that a movie directed by Fred Durst and starring Ice Cube was a good choice? I mean honestly. And could this movie be any more of the same old same old family-sports-heartwarming-wannabe drama? And how did Fred Durst get into Directing anyways? There are thousands of film students out there that are busting their asses trying to get Directing jobs, kids with actual talent and vision, and studios think the right direction to take is Fred Durst. Seriously? What cookie-cutter crap.
Steven Ormsbee on May 30, 2008
I hear ya loud and clear Steven. This is the state of film in America; Hackneyed shit made by and for the ignorati. I'm surprised it's not worse to be honest. Look at television. Not even just in the states, everywhere now. Nothing but stupid people watching other stupid people do pointless things. Congratulations 95%, you're a fucking idiot.

It's great to see that KeKe and Ice Cube have teamed up to show the rest of the world how important it is for little girls to have father figures in their life. Sometimes it's not the biological father but an uncle, brother, cousin or man from the community that will make all the difference in a young woman's life. I hope the movie is a smashing success! http://www.ewaltersmith.com http://myspace.com/ewaltersmith http://www.itscooltobesmart.org

Yet another generic movie from the pros at dimsension. let me sum up this entire movie in 2 sentences: "I'm a girl, I cant play football. Oh wait, yes I can" ROLL CREDITS

I think it looks cute and maybe even good. 🙂 I know I'm in the minority here.

I think that most of you are a bunch of lames. This is a family movie. The children will love it, and it is not violent or filled with profanity. It actually has a message! I don't care if it is an oft repeated message, but it is one that the children of today, immediate gratification seekers that they are, not to here, quite often! We can do anything that we desire to do as long as we are driven to succeed! Stop being sarcastic!

My son has written some the greatest music you love to hate! Break Stuff happens to be my favorite song ever, and the all of the music created by Fred came from hours and hours of hard work and a lot of sacrifice from Fred and the band. No one could be as proud of Fred when I observed how much respect he earned by the crew and all of the staff when I visited the movie set of Longshots. He wouldn't rest until he had done his best on every single aspect of directing this movie. I know you are saying, "But you are just his mother," but what you may not know is that I have always been his hardest critic. I tell him the truth just as I am telling it to you. Longshots is a tremendous movie. Icecube is an unbelievably talented actor in this movie, and was so humble to everyone. (He gave up his chair to me whenever I came onto the set, like a true gentleman, insisting that I be as comfortable as possible.) I will never forget his kindness and neither will the entire crew. So, as with Fred's music you love to hate, I hope you love to hate the wonderful director, Fred Durst, in the movie, Longshots. Having Fred Durst as my son is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to my life. I have always loved to love him. I love you guys, too. Anita Durst

"I'm gonna knock her out of her training bra!" I love that line, score one for the boys.

Anita, You may feel like his hardest critic but i can aaure you " we" are our worst critics. I'm willing to bet no one is as hard on fred as he is on himself. I don't know him or you.. but i know from expierence what its like to try and live up to expectations and not just your parents expectations.. but your own! reguardless of all the outside pressures. I think Fred knows at this point he has a lot to be ropud of musically... and in a so many other area of his artist ability and tallent to manage, direct and scout. I don't hate Fred. and those who say they do.. in truth dont mean what they say. we are all different with different tates and likes and thts fine... but to judge someone based on "the masses opinoin" is sheepish. I've never cared much for those kind of people anyway. have i liked every song .. no... have i felt dissapointed.. yeah.. but i;m sure that there have been times more than he can count when those feelings have been returned towards us "fans" i'm sure he's notl ike everything about us, and i can be he has dissapointed with some of us as well... its a 2way steet. I guess what i'm trying to say... is... Critics don't matter. fan's don't matter. what matters is living your dreams, and living up to your greatest potential and what ever it is you are pursuing... no matter who or what is block the way. i wish i could say i've done that as well as he seems to have done. Love back to Ya'll too, April in tennessee

Cube is an excellent rapper... one of the best. But he needs to stay in the studio, and perhaps even behind a camera... instead of being in front of it. Thanks, but noooo thanks! R
