Adrien Brody to Star in Robert Rodriguez' Predators Reboot!

Instead of bringing on an Austrian body builder, producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal have decided to bring on Oscar winning actor Adrien Brody to star in their Predators reboot. The news comes straight from THR's Heat Vision blog, where they also report that Alice Braga (I Am Legend), Mahershalalhashbaz Ali ("The 4400"), Walt Goggins ("The Shield"), UFC fighter Oleg Taktarov, and Danny Trejo (confirming the rumors) have all been cast in Predators as well. Shooting will take place in Hawaii starting later this year. Rodriguez will also be overseeing the project at his Troublemaker Studios in Austin.

Written by Rodriguez, Alex Litvak and Michael Finch, the script follows a group of elite warrior-types who are being hunted by members (notice the plural?) of a race of merciless alien trackers called Predators. Brody ends up inheriting "the mantle of leader", while Braga will play the tough female killer. Ali plays a "man not afraid to die", Goggins is the loose canon of the group and Taktarov is a former Russian special ops agent. Trejo will play Cuchillo, a hardened warrior with twin uzis strapped to his back. Sounds like Antal and Rodriguez have rounded up a badass cast. This reboot seems to be headed in the right direction so far.

The more I hear about Predators, the more confident I am that it won't get screwed up, even though it is a Fox production. Apparently the studio is letting Rodriguez make this without their involvement, which is a very smart move. I love Brody, but haven't thought of him as an action star yet. Maybe this will change my mind. I'm sure we'll see soon enough! Fox has set a July 9th, 2010 release date for Predators. Thoughts?

Update: Apparently former "That 70's Show" actor Topher Grace is also "in negotiations" to join the cast as an accountant-type whose unassuming facade masks a dangerous serial killer. Heat Vision updated their article on the casting news a few minutes after I had first written about it adding that bit about Topher Grace. It looks like that gig playing Venom in Spider-Man 3 may have gotten him another action job. Let's hope all of these actors can pull off a great movie, because I want Predators to be a highlight next summer.

I think the casting, outside of Trejo, is terrible. I'll still go see this, but my expectations are pretty low right now

i like the casting but is this movie really a Reboot or a Requel (meaning its some type of reboot but also a sequel to the existing movies)? i.e. StarTrek 2009 is a requel.

im shocked that actress Alice Braga is only 26 years old she looks old then her actually age #1 i cant stop laughing im black and i find that funny cause its so true the black guy going to die first. you got to love Hollywood movies LOL.

I see fail, why are they doing a remake? They should do a predator homeworld based film, or a predator on a his first solo mission But no! No creativity just a remake, with a new vision...oh well I'll probably go see it.

you know...the more news i read about the movie, the more i feel like this is gonna be as bad as avp 2. not because of brody, but because of the premise of having a group of "elite warrior-types" go up against a group of predators. the reason why Predator and Aliens were awesome movies were because of the great characterization of the military squads that were going up against these monsters. they were beyond elite and simply badass. this band of "warriors" are probably untrained and i believe i read somewhere that one or two are criminals or gangsters. common man, that is not cool. didn't alien 4 have the same premise? "The Betty, a ship full of mercenaries" says wiki. and they had no chemistry and got their asses kicked badly. sad.

I think this sounds awesome! Grace and Brody are definitely great additions to the cast. The premise sounds exciting and I can't wait to see what Rodriquez does with this as a producer. Don't judge it too early.

Not too sure about this movie. Adrian is a good actor but there can't be a good predator without a badass lead. I think Grace is a bad idea. I'm OK with Walt Goggins, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo and Oleg Taktarov in the supporting roles. RR should rethink the lead. I know this is a reboot but Predator spews 80's action flick-muscle bound filled with great punch-lines and/or one-liners. As well as weapons also being part of the characters. Making this movie work for this new century needs great vision and creativity. I hope they don't screw it up.

If Rodriguez has any respect at all for the original franchise, then the first thing he NEEDS to do is get Alan Silvestri back on the soundtrack. Without Silvestri the movie just won't have that same Predator vibe.

So lame. Seriously. Adrien Brody, Topher Grace? They are matchsticks. The original cast was one of the most muscled group of dudes ever to grace the big screen at once. This is a travesty for the film. Acting ability should not come first in these case.

Brody has potential. brains not brawn. I can see it being like 13th warrior, he starts out like a lil girly man next thing you kno hes one of the guys and chopping predators heads off.

They have to do the movie involving "elite warrior types". With more than one predator(hence Predators) the entire cast would be expected to die halfway through the movie without characters that could potentially fight back, like soldiers or militants. I like the idea of Adrian Brody being cast in the movie because he's not the obvious choice. Think it shows that they are making a different kind of movie by not picking a cliche cast for an action film. Im hoping they take the story in the direction of the first Predator and add to it. At least the first movie had an element of suspense, they didnt just throw the predator in the movie in the first 5 minutes and let him kill everybody. Hope its not going to be an ultra-futuristic setting either, where half the movie is spent on some shit hole spaceship (because humans dont live on earth anymore) and the other half is the characters just playing "Doom" on some alien planet.
