Alexandre Desplat is Scoring Twilight Saga: New Moon?!
Some heartbreaking news today. French composer Alexandre Desplat will be scoring The Twilight Saga: New Moon. The news was confirmed by the Upcoming Film Scores blog, where they say that Desplat has a working relationship with director Chris Weitz. Why is this heartbreaking? Because Desplat is one of the finest composers working today and I was hoping there wouldn't be anything that would actually interest me in New Moon. Desplat will be replacing Carter Burwell, who provided the score for the first Twilight last year. I actually liked Burwell's score, it was probably the best part of that entire movie.
Desplat received Oscar nominations for his scores to The Queen and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button most recently. He has also composed the scores for Stephen Gaghan's Syriana, John Curran's The Painted Veil, Ang Lee's Lust, Caution, and Chris Weitz's The Golden Compass. He is currently working on Julie & Julia, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life. He does some incredible work and I've loved most of his scores. It'll be interesting to see how much work Desplat does for New Moon, considering Twilight featured mostly pop songs and only the occasional orchestral score (with also Bella's Lullaby).

They're selling this movie so hard with all the cast and crew they've announced so far. Maybe it'll actually be better than the first?

Isn't the source material still rubbish? But it does seem they are setting the bar higher for this next film. I commend them for for that.

We know you're just looking for an excuse to keep watching Twilight movies. Admit it.

For god's sake. Why do the producers keep insisting that this abominable series can be of the same caliber as Harry Potter? Oh, that's right. $___$

#2 - I've heard that the first book is actually far better than the movie.

Desplat also scored Janathan Glazer's Birth, a beautiful and haunting score.

Onyxangel, you sure don't sound like an older, intelligent person, is basically what your mother is saying.

Holy crap! I might actually watch this thing! Hard selling, putting Michael Sheen and Alexandre Desplat in this movie...and it's working. Who knows, they might actually add some integrity to this film.

Onyxangel, I find your comments on JK Rowling's Harry Potter series rather upsetting!! If Meyer's Twilight Saga were to be compared to JK Rowling's Harry Potter it would be clear that JK Rowling has the upper hand. The Harry Potter series is enjoyed by millions of people around the world because of it is a beautifully crated piece of literature! The Twilight Saga is moving and epic, simply because of the romantic storyline. Oh and please use punctuation... your comments look like they have been written by dim witted 15 year old, determined to insult other great writers and in the process, sounding like a "doofus"

Onyx angel and Dilila rose, what the hell? seriously. How can you say that about Harry Potter? Twilight is brillliant but it's not the best written set of books, JK Rowling is an absolutely amazing writer. And actually some 10 year olds have trouble reading Harry Potter themselves (I know because I'm a teacher) just thaught I'd add that. Also Dilila, you say that Twilight is good because it has "sex, blood and violence", did you just skip all the lovey-dovey moments? The love is what makes the books, and harry potter may not have sex but it has a lot more blood and violence (especially at the end of the fourth book onwards, incase you ever bother to read it). PS Onyxangel, I feel sorry for your kids, growing up with a mother/father/thing like you. and Twilighter, I agree, although I would say they sound about 13 🙂
