Apple Store Appearances - Directors Rian Johnson and McG
by Alex Billington

Those of you who are Apple users (or just tech savvy individuals) are probably already familiar with this on-going series that Apple runs. But if not, every once in a while, Apple brings filmmakers to their stores for a presentation and chat. They've previously hosted Zack Snyder for Watchmen and plenty of other great filmmakers. Appearing next week will be Rian Johnson from The Brothers Bloom as well as McG from Terminator Salvation. Johnson will be at the SoHo Apple Store in New York City, and McG will be at the Third Street Apple Store in Santa Monica. I've heard these are always great experiences, so check them out.
Rian Johnson will be in New York City to talk about The Brothers Bloom starting at 7PM on Tuesday, May 12th. McG will be in Santa Monica to talk about Terminator Salvation starting at 7PM on Tuesday, May 12th. Both events are completely free and are open to the public. Click on either of the Apple store websites link above for more information. If I weren't otherwise in France, I'd probably be at the Santa Monica store on Tuesday. McG's a fun guy to talk to in-person and I'm sure this will be a great event. I wish they'd do this much more often, because it's such a rare and exciting experience to meet filmmakers like this in person.

I went to the McG appearance tonight. It was pretty rad. The dude is fun to listen to and seems extremely grateful for the opportunity to make the film. He spoke about ideas he had about a second film (in which, Common's character is the forefront of the story). During the Q&A portion, I was able to ask him about Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. He said he enjoys the show and works with some of the people involved with it, however, Salvation has no ties to the mythology presented therein. He said it would have been too complicated to follow the details set in each of the nearly fifty episodes aired so far. McG actually started by telling us that he really just wanted to do a surprise intimate screening of the film right there and then, but his manager apparently gave him a super dirty look. He expressed his excitement about wanting to show people the film. How awesome would that have been!!! Oh well... Anyway, thanks so much for letting us know about this appearance! It was a blast!

Hey, I was at the Santa Monica one (I work at the hotel right down the street), it wasn't as busy as I thought it was going to be. McG is much more down to earth than you would think - its pretty cool.
