Sex and the City

We would say that this was inevitable, but the fate of the Sex and the City franchise was actually tied to its box office. Even if you hate the show or the movie, you can't deny that it has a very powerful audience, because it ended up taking in a massive $152 million this summer on a $65 million budget. So believe it or not, they're making the sequel. E! Online was the first to report that all four stars, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis, as well as writer and director Michael Patrick King, have agreed to return, giving this the big greenlight. Now New Line wants to put it on the fast-track for 2010.

Since I have never watched the show and didn't see the movie, I questioned my Sex and the City-loving female friend about the sequel. Instead of being excited, her response was, "I just think the first one wrapped it all up so nicely, I just don't get the need to do another one." Interesting to hear from a fan and I'll be curious whether the women that all contributed to that $152 million feel the same way. Regarding the production, no start date has been set and the script hasn't even been written, but it's still big news. It took years for Kim Cattrall to finally agree to the first movie, which is why that took so long to get made.

My thoughts were inline with your friend about the first movie and then I felt like like they messed up stuff in the movie intentionally so that they could make a sequel. I do wonder how they will pull it off since now carrie and big are married and it was their problems that always carried the show and the movie. I feel like anything more is just going to be a glorified epilogue. Either way I'll still see it so they'll be getting my money and in the end that is really all that matters to them anyway.

Dear god, the fact that this movie did well enough to earn itself a sequel is indicative of the dire straits the human species is currently in. God help us...

I thought the first movie was so beautifully put together that we would never see the girls again. I cant wait to see what happens next. The girls ended the movie by getting everything there hearts desire. Everyone knows that it is more to "happily ever after". Two little girls has been added to the movie, Big has finally tied the knot, and the SEXAholic is back in the wilds, how can we not want to know what happends next? Why not bring back the series as well? 2010 I cant wait for the Sequal.
