Another day, another remake. This news actually hit yesterday, but we didn't really pick up on it until today. On Monday, Hero Complex confirmed that Breck Eisner had been replaced on Universal's Creature from the Black Lagoon remake by newcomer Carl Rinsch. Eisner is currently finishing The Crazies and is also still attached to the Flash Gordon remake in development at Columbia Pictures, but his very next project might actually be a remake of David Cronenberg's 1979 horror film The Brood. The film is about a woman who telepathically communicates with her brood group of mutant children, instructing them to act out violently.
Spyglass Entertainment is developing the new version of The Brood with newcomer Cory Goodman (Priest, Kung Fu) writing the script. According to Hero Complex, The Brood "is regarded as one of the scarier in the supernatural-horror genre." To be honest, this is the first time I've heard of it, but I'm curious to see what Eisner can do. I'm more curious to see if The Crazies is any good, because if he can do a good job remaking a George Romero film, then I'm sure he'll do a good job with this remake. Plus, there's never enough movies where kids kill adults, right? Speaking of which, watch The Children sometime, that is a great horror flick.
