Singer's X-Men: First Class Will Be About Xavier & Magneto

When Bryan Singer announced that he would be directing X-Men: First Class on the Avatar blue carpet, he said that he would be directing "an X-Men First Class Origins picture." The title of the prequel does not contain "Origins", but thanks to an update on Variety, it looks like this will indeed focus on the origins of two mutants we're familiar with - Professor Charles Xavier and Eric Lehnsherr aka Magneto. Singer also said he "thought long and hard about returning to the franchise he launched until he found a storyline that would stand on its own." He even wrote a treatment for Fox, which is what eventually brought him back.

Fox decided to bring him back after reading his treatment. Here's the juicy part with a quote from Singer:

"This is the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where there relationship took a wrong turn," Singer said. "There is a romantic element, and some of the mutants from X-Men will figure into the plot, though I don't want to say which ones. There will be a lot of new mutants and a great villain."

It's kind of confusing because he's not necessarily confirming that Xavier and Magneto are in it, but he's saying that they're an important part of the story. And for all those who still aren't excited for this movie, if you have any faith in Bryan Singer (I still do), then maybe in time you'll change your mind. "Whether it's Batman, Lord of the Rings or Star Trek, if the characters are good, you want to see them on their journey even if you know their destiny," Singer said. "I put myself in the fan's position, and I think this story is something I would want to see, and so will they." Bold words, but I can admit that I do want to see this.

Variety also says that "Singer hasn't fixed on his next movie," but it's likely he'll direct Jack the Giant Killer before potentially moving on to X-Men First Class Origins. With all this buzz and talk about X-Men in the past few days, I actually really want to see this prequel as soon as possible. Bring on more mutants, Singer!

Is this going to be the new "Magneto" movie instead of the origins that was originally planned? I think this is a great idea, but i am still a huge fan of the idea for a magneto movie of his own.

I hope the story is sorta like the one episode from X-Men The Animated Series in which they show how Magneto and Xavier met. And as far as the romance could it be Moira Kinross from Oxford or Lilandra. Either could be interesting.

The J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reference in the Variety article really has me excited. Like most everyone else, I loved this summer's Star Trek "reboot" of sorts, and can't wait to see Singer's return to the X-Men franchise. I'm sure this film will take place right after X-Men Origins: Wolverine when Professor X leads Cyclops and the others away, probably to his newly founded School of the Gifted. I'd also bet that the film will have some flashbacks and will borrow a piece of the story from the still in development X-Men Origins: Magneto about how Lehnsherr came to be and how Xavier came to be paralyzed. Very interested in this project, as it gains more and more momentum each day.

After this Singer needs to return to the franchise and come up with some sort of explaination/make up for what took place in the third film.

he should use already existing mutants from the comics instead of making up new ones for just the movie

Mark Strong for Mr. Sinister

I loved singer's first two X-Men films, but I think he needs to move away from the franchise like he did when he went on to make Superman Returns instead of X-men 3. X-Men Origins: Wolverine put me off from wanting to see anymore origin stories about the x-men. X-Men: The Last Stand was such a bad way to end the series. I really think that fox should be moving forward with X-Men 4 and getting that film right before doing anymore origin stories!

This could be good - looking forward with the villains being presented. I believe that when Singer said new mutants - he will be just presenting new mutants in the comics, origin's wise aside from Cyclops, Beast, Jean, Ice-Man & Angel - he could show Banshee, Forge, Dazzler, Sunfire etc... Villains could be Mr. Sinister, Shadow King or the Hell Fire Club (Sebastian Shaw, White King, Black Queen). Love aspect could be Moira Mac Taggart(for Xavier) & Magda (For Magneto). I am excited yes, but still afraid with Fox being behind this production.

Sounds better than I thought. Let the casting begin.

I'm with #12, bring us Apocalypse. Lets see Magneto and Xavier struggle with the most deadly (and arguably most powerful) villain in the X-Men series.

I am pretty excited about the return of Singer although i don't like the guy but he is a good director.

I agree with #2 and #12. The cartoon 1/2 hour series was damn near better than the Xmen movies. We need new villians in the Xmen saga! We see the same villians and character reduxes! There are so many Xmen and story lines that they could try on the big screen. I am tired of seeing the BrotherHood, its played out! What about Apocalypse, Mr. Sinister, MasterMold, Emma Frost and the HellFire Club etc... The possibilities are endless. Why not bring in new characters good and bad?! I would rather watch wolverine and the xmen than another origins movie. Its gonna be the same show with better special effects.

x-men first class should be the original team of cyclops, marvel girl aka jean grey, iceman, angel & the beast vs magneto, the second should be magneto & the brotherhood of evil (blob, mastermind, quicksilver, scarlett witch & the toad)the third film should be the sentinels.

Until Apocalypse and/or Sentinels are cast as the villain i dont want to hear anything about another X-Men movie

Sorry but I was very disappointed with both Singer's X-Men. All the X-men, including my favs, Storm and Jean Grey, were complete whimps with no contrrol over their powers. I hate that. X-Men will always be popular. As to whether the movies does the franchise any justice is clear in my mind: None whatsoever.

Madison on Dec 22, 2009

please dont make this movie. i beg you.... you hollywood ppl dont know shit about marvel and you ruin almost every single character you make a movie of. hire the real knowledgeable fans to help write some of this movie. after all we are the ones that have the real say in the end. ex wolverine origins being a total shit fest
