Check This Out: The Adventures of Kung Pao Master Short

Love kung fu cinema? Then we have a short film for you! Our good friend Sean Dejecacion, who is part of the always hilarious Bob $tencil crew, created this short film for their local San Diego 48 Hour Film Project. It's called The Adventures of Kung Pao Master and it went on to win the Best Writing Jury Award and Audience Award at that film festival. Tristan, who produces all the Bob $tencil content (and is seen in this), told me to check out the short film and give it a shout out this weekend if I liked it. And, well, I liked it. It's pretty hilarious and the concept is simply that these guys are sitting around pitching a kung fu movie idea.
The 48 Hour Film Project is part of a franchise of film festivals that features films written, shot, and edited in a 48 hour time period (which is pretty impressive). Because it won awards and made it into the top 12, it will also be shown during a 48HFP showcase at the Temecula Valley Film Festival. I hope this doesn't kill the Bob $tencil illusion for a few of you, but it just goes to show that this guy inside a bum who lives on the street all year around until Comic-Con returns (or maybe he does?). Obviously this isn't for everyone, but I had a good time watching, it's fun and funny and just some good weekend entertainment. Hope you enjoy!
the 48hr film project reminds me of the 24hr comics project by scott mccloud, great concept and awesome exercises for anyone in the field...

sooo... a movie about stoners sitting around imagining made it in the top 12. must have been some lame movies entered into this contest

@5 Yea... considering literally anyone who has a camera can enter into the contest, this is actually comparatively a really good 48 hour film from the stuff I've seen in SLC's 48 hour film festival.

@5 The genre that this 48 Hour Film Project team drew was Kung Fu/Stoner. They were handcuffed to making either a Kung Fu film or a Stoner film; they chose to do both. As far as the quality, they had to write the script shoot the film, and do all post production, and hand deliver the film in under 48 hours. Additionally they were required to use a Crayon as a prop, use the line of dialogue "That's not what I meant," and have a character named either Amy or Amos Belinger who was a historian in the film. I was at the 'Best Of' screening (my team's film got runner up for best film) and when I recognized the voice of Bob $tencil I thought I was halucinating.

Wow this sucked. After reading it was the guy from the Bob Stencil shit I already knew but I thought there might be some campy cheesy fun. Yeah...it sucked. Thanks #7 for the details on this. It really helped in understanding why it's so bad. Stoner films...ugh.
