Extra Crazy First Trailer for Indie Film 'Leslie, My Name Is Evil'
by Alex Billington
September 4, 2009
This is one of those trailers where you're guaranteed to be asking yourself "what the hell did I just watch?" Apple has debuted the trailer for an indie film called Leslie, My Name Is Evil today and it's quite a wild ride. Apparently this is "loosely based" on the Manson Family murders about a girl who was traumatized as a teenager and joins a radical cult that murders people. It looks pretty frickin' insane, and I'm not entirely sure that's a good thing, but I'm hoping to catch this up at the Toronto Film Festival in order to write a full review. I guess I'd say it has potential, and at least the performances from the two lead actors look strong.
Watch the first official trailer for Leslie, My Name Is Evil from YouTube:
Perry (Gregory Smith), a sheltered chemical engineer, falls in love with Leslie (Kristen Hager), a former homecoming princess, when he becomes a jury member at her hippie death cult murder trial. A film that explores how the choices Perry and Leslie make reflect upon the moral choices our society has made.
Leslie, My Name Is Evil is both written and directed by Canadian filmmaker Reginald Harkema, of Better Off in Bed and Monkey Warfare previously. This is premiering at the Toronto Film Festival this month where it will be looking for a US distributor. I expect we'll be hearing a lot more about it in the near future.
Ok so Quicktime has just been updated with some cool trailers - but this one aint the best.. You need to post a link to Adventures of Power - it looks amazing! Can't wait. http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/adventuresofpower/

dom, nice call! looks like it's trying to ride the napoleon dynamite bandwagon a little too late, but it'll be worth a rent. am i the only person that finds it funny that adrien grenier is in a movie starring and directed by a guy named ari gold? very serendipitous:P

anyone know why they didn't just make this a manson story? are there copyright issues with basing it off the real killings? or does this movie go far enough away from sharon tate and the rest that it needed a completely fictional world?

Based on #1's recommendation, I watched the trailer for Adventures of Power. I don't get it...is that supposed to be funny? I think it's trying to be funny but it just...isn't. I'm so tired of this breed of "comedy"...I blame it all on Napoleon Dynamite.

Trailer's ok. Still, not interested in this. It just looks depressing as hell.

not really interested in seeing another Manson story, even if it's centered on him.

Very cool. Could be forty different kinds of hipster garbage, or a slice of blistering psychadelic awesomeness. Hope for the latter. I need that song. Where can I get it? Anyone?

Looks cheaply made and not well thought out.
