Derrick Comedy Thanks You For Seeing Their Film Mystery Team

December 8, 2009

Mystery Team

This past weekend, Derrick Comedy's first feature film, Mystery Team, opened in New York City. It had the fourth-highest per screen average over the weekend, a period during which they were the second-most Demanded thing on Eventful. Due to the success of the opening in New York, Derrick will continue to tour the film around to cities with the most demands. Starting this Friday and Saturday, Mystery Team will be showing at the Guild Cinema in Albuquerque, NM. To say thanks for all of your great support, we were sent this letter from the Derrick Comedy guys and asked to share it with all of you, the online film community.

Our movie “Mystery Team” is about three kids who decide to do something no one believes they can do. Likewise, when we set out to make this film, and honestly, at every step of the way since, we were five kids trying to do so something no one believed we could. But eventually, some extremely talented, smart, influential people got wind of what we're doing, and, though they stood to gain nothing by it, they decided to believe in us. That was you guys, the online film community.

You believed in us. You continue to help us at every opportunity. It is an honor for our movie to have been taken up in such a profoundly enthusiastic way by the new vanguard of film writers and their readership. You’re changing the way movies find audiences, and vice versa. Your support continues to mean the world to us, and be the difference-maker at every tough spot along the rough road of releasing an independent film. Thank you again. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

(Dominic Dierkes, Dan Eckman, Donald Glover, Meggie McFadden, and DC Pierson)

I've been a die-hard supporter of Mystery Team since first seeing it at Sundance. I know the film isn't for everyone, but I hope those who were looking forward to it have had the chance to see it by now. If not, keep your eyes on the Eventful page, as they're still continuing their tour. And if you haven't seen it yet, check out the official trailer. I've spent some time with these guys and they're all great people. Not only did they make one of the funniest films you'll see all year, but they're damn good comedians and truly genuine people who appreciate everything you've done for them, including watching those Derrick Comedy videos on YouTube.
