Disney is Bringing Pixar's Toy Story 3 to IMAX Next Summer

Disney has announced today that they will be releasing Pixar's Toy Story 3 in IMAX 3D on June 18th, 2010 next summer. This will be the fourth Disney IMAX 3D release and the first Pixar movie to ever be released in IMAX (oooh, ahhh). The only bad news is that Toy Story 3 will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of "The IMAX Experience" with proprietary IMAX DMR technology. I'm not really a fan of the DMR technology, I think it sometimes makes the picture quality look worse than if you were to just see it on 35mm. But I'm sure Toy Story 3 will still look great up on the giant IMAX screen.
"We have always envisioned the Toy Story franchise as an ideal fit for The IMAX Experience and we're very happy to finally turn that vision into a reality,” said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "This film also fits nicely into our 2010 lineup, ensuring that families will be able to start the summer holidays with a fun Disney release in IMAX." If that wonderfully generic quote wasn't enough, Disney's president of distribution Bob Chapek said this: "A film like this is designed to take audiences on an exciting thrill-ride adventure, making it a perfect match for both 3D and IMAX." If any company had the balls to re-render at 70mm for IMAX, it would be Pixar. Unfortunately not this time >:(
