Elisabeth Shue

Uh oh, this is starting to sound like Anaconda all over again. Moviehole claims to have confirmed that Elisabeth Shue is in final negotiations to join Piranha 3-D, the upcoming horror project from Hills Have Eyes and Mirrors director Alexandre Aja. Shue will play the role of Sheriff Julie Forester, an authority figure in the town of Lake Victoria, where all the action takes place. She is also the mother of Jake, one of the central teenage characters in the film. Piranha 3-D was originally supposed to be out this summer, but got delayed by The Weinstein Company. They're now preparing to shoot and then release it next year.

The last time I even remember seeing Elisabeth Shue was in Hamlet 2, where she actually played herself and was quite hilarious. But other than that, its been a while, I don't think I've seen some of her past few films, like Gracie or Mysterious Skin or Hollow Man. Before those, the last thing I think I saw her in was The Saint in 1997. This isn't to say she's not a great actress, I just don't think starring in a 3-D horror project is going to bring her into the spotlight again. As I said earlier, this is sounding way too much like Anaconda and I'm worried it's going to be just as bad, but in 3-D, which might make it even worse. Thoughts?

BD just got confirmation that Shue is cast...I really like her but I don't know if this will end up even an okay horror flick...Aja needs to make original films and stop this remake stuff...High Tension was great but his remakes aren't all that great..granted the source material wasn't much to work with to begin with...they just seem all style and no scares Piranha seems like something that really shouldn't be remade...that's unless it's going to be just a gimmicky fun film like MBV3D was...I get the feeling Aja focuses way too much effort on style rather than making a film scary or even fun...I understand that the American horror genre is all but dead, needing remakes to keep it alive...Aja could be making/writing better quality horror films, ones he creates himself

Is this suppose to be a straight up horror film? Or is it going to resemble something along the lines of Eight-Legged Freaks? I do agree that this movie should not be remade, especially in 3D.

No need to worry. Alexander Aja has never disappointed.

She's absolutely adorable in The Saint...

Yea #3, that must be a type...I'm sure you meant to say "Alexander Aja has always disappointed" The only thing Piranha has ever been good for was giving us James Cameron...

I love Shue but I agree that this role seems out of place for her.

Seems Aja wants to be the Earle of Rips and Remakes.
