Emily Browning to Star in Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch

Emily Browning

As we reported a few weeks ago, Mamma Mia star Amanda Seyfried, who was originally cast in Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, wasn't able to take on the role due to a scheduling conflict. At the time, we didn't know who would replace her, but Entertainment Weekly is finally reporting that actress Emily Browning, of The Uninvited most recently, will star instead. Browning also appeared in Ghost Ship and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. She will take on the lead role of Baby Doll, an insane asylum inmate who loses herself in a fantasy world where she dreams about escaping with her fellow inmates.

Unfortunately I haven't seen enough of Browning to say whether or not she's a good fit. I was a lot more confident in Snyder's original choice of Amanda Seyfried because she's a great actress and is really going to have to do a lot of hard work to play the lead. As in, Snyder is going to really put Browning to work, and she better be able to handle all the action and mayhem and still be able to act in the end. I guess it's also important that she is good looking, which I'd say Browning is, so at least she's got the looks! The supporting cast for Sucker Punch includes Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Evan Rachel Wood, and Emma Stone.

She seems a little young, but she'll be growing up soon. She's cool and I could see psychotic coming out of her. I'm not remotely interested in this movie, no matter how many times you guys report on it.

I heard the budget was $100 million plus on this, which is crazy if true. This is "Kill Bill" niche stuff and that movie made $70M domestic. This feels like a Watchmen boondoggle again, where the studio thinks the audience for an edgy movie is greater than it actually is. I like Snyder and this worries me. Two bombs in a row will put him on studio blacklists.

i think it was just 100mil but this premise and all women cast i think will get people interested

Watchmen is at 170 Million world wide not really a bomb but not hugely successful

this won't bomb

It's a hard R uber-violent hipster movie that costs a hundred million dollars. There is no way it can do anything but bomb. Is this movie going to double Sin City or Kill Bill? Because that's what it would take to break even. A too big budget is setting the movie up for a no win situation.

Yes, it feels like the crazy girl gang part of Sin City, which wasn't very memorable.

@ #3... there were many women cast in the Spirit and that bombed really bad. I have a bad feeling about this. I agree with #2: Zack Snyder's gonna end up being blacklisted by studios. Maybe that's what it's gonna take for him to shift gears and start doing low-budget cult classics. Emily Browning looks odd in that pic btw.

i hope synder lessens all the slow motion he loves to do.

#2 - Two bombs??? I certainly hope your not refering to Watchmen "as a bomb"? Cause WOW are you ever off base! Watchmen was amazing and it's only been out for 3 weeks. It's still got playing time in theatres, got theatrical DVD, Director's cut DVD, it's making plenty of bank. Will it make as much as a PG Spiderman or X-Men, of couse not, but that doesn't mean it not a successful film. #9 - Lessen the slow mo? That's his style of film making, why would he change??? He wouldn't and probably won't. Personally I enjoy the slo mo. You get more from a clip or scene in slo mo. Zach Synder has not made a bad movie to date and I'm very confident Sucker Punch will be over the top crazy, violent and just plain a great movie! Zach's films I would say aren't "mainstream", they have more of a niche fan base. And that suits me just fine. Keep kickin' ass Mr Snyder!
