WORTH WATCHING
Extended Super Bowl Sneak Peek at Harold Ramis' Year One
by Alex Billington
January 31, 2009
They just keep coming today! An extended clip that is supposedly the new Super Bowl TV spot for Year One has just popped up via YouTube. Considering this is our very first look at any footage from the film, I thought it would be worth featuring even if it isn't the Super Bowl TV spot in the end. In this clip you'll see Jack Black as Zed and Michael Cera as Oh, two lazy hunter-gatherers, who encounter David Cross as Cain and Paul Rudd as Abel. To be honest, I didn't really laugh once during this clip at all, but I've got a feeling this is just a very small sample of the kind of humor we'll see in Year One. Check it out!
Watch the extended Year One Super Bowl sneak peek:
Year One is directed by comedy mastermind Harold Ramis, who played Egon in Ghostbusters and both wrote and directed films like Caddyshack, Groundhog Day, Multiplicity, Analyze This, and The Ice Harvest. The screenplay was co-written by Ramis as well as "The Office" writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg. Sony Pictures is bringing Year One to theaters everywhere on June 19th this summer.

Um are you being sarcastic #1 #2 #3 ? Laughed more to this clip than to the supposedly hilarious Pinapple Express ,Step Brothers, etc which sucked. Seriously, this was a very good clip. Maybe not the common fart and laugh humor but it was fun.

I thought the clip was O.K. But you're damaged if you didn't think Pineapple Express or Step Brothers was funny.

I have to agree with #5 and #6 Pineapple Express was a very dissappointing.

Now I have to dissagree with #5 & #7, Pineapple Express was a classic! I love it! Now I understand that this clip wasnt set up like a normal film advert but hell, I thought it was quality. I cant wait at all for the film to come out!

I think Funny People will be more promising than this Apatow production.

Weird clip to choose. Wasn't terribly funny, but I was smiling throughout because its a dream come true to have all those actors onscreen at once. I don't know, I have hope but either way there will be a smile on my face.

#12 if right. Pinapple Express was only funny.

Um... What was that? I was expecting something more along the lines of "Cavemen," you know with Ringo Star and Dennis Quaid.

...11 this has nothing to do with apatow

meh meh meh It feels more like I'm over that kind of humor than not actually being funny.

Think this will be super entertaining! Even if the tv spot wasnt that funny. They should have used a bit more money making the trailer... Maybe they ran out of money getting it to be showed at super bowl..

15 Yes it is an Apatow production.

for some reason, it feels like they're shooting for a history of the world pt. 1 feel to it. It wasnt fresh enough for me, but as previously stated, the cast is still strong enough for me to care.

i agree with 5 and 12. I think it looks pretty good and will enjoy seeing the rest when it hits theaters.

The only reason people would ever go to see this in the theaters is going to be due to the "outrage" stirred up by the "christian community" over the "parody" of their beliefs. Also, I highly doubt this is actually the superbowl spot. It's a scene and not a trailer, and the scene contains one biblical character attempting to bludgeon another biblical character to death with a rock. Some people might find it funny, but I think most people are going to look at this and either 1) think it's retarded (my own opinion) or 2) be offended by the biblical "comedy". This would do more to lose their potential audience than gain one.

When I heard the plot of the film and who was staring, I got pretty excited for it. Based on this clip, however, I have no desire to see this movie.

Pineapple Express is a classic? Oh yeah definitely.. I'm pretty sure it's the only movie in existence that's all about weed, then somehow ends up being about 2 friends getting into a fight, go their seperate ways, then somehow get back together again towards the end when everything is going apeshit.. Stab yourself in the lap please. And this shitty clip was good, not great. Get a fuckin clue to what's going on.

i really think pineapple express, superbad, and maybe this are hands-down better than knocked up and step brothers. with step brothers, i'v ever seen a movie that was so promising in the beginning and almost unwatchable by the end. i think this looks very funny, and with funny people this will be another great year for apatow and co.

I saw the Superbowl clip before this one and thought it was hilarious. Was really looking forward to it. After seeing this scene, mm, not so much. I totally agree with #1, with these actors, surely they could've come up with a better clip. Really disappointing...
