First Chilling Trailer for Sony's The Stepfather Remake
by Alex Billington
June 17, 2009
This fall, Daddy's home! The first trailer for The Stepfather, a remake of the 1987 thriller of the same name, has hit the web today. Yep, this is that movie with a poster that has hands holding a tie in a menacing way (see that here). It's kind of like Disturbia, except that the serial killer is actually this guy's soon-to-be-stepfather, not his neighbor. Oooh, that one give you chills? Of course, this features plenty of hotties in bikinis (is there any other way to sell a horror?) like Amber Heard and plenty of menacing "I don't trust this guy" moments. Anyway, I'll probably check this out, but it doesn't look like it'll be anything too special.
Watch the first trailer for The Stepfather:
Michael Harding returns home to find his mother happily in love and living with her new boyfriend, David. As the two get to know each other, Michael becomes more and more suspicious of the man who's always there lend a helpful hand. Is he really the man of her dreams or could David be hiding a dark side?
The Stepfather is directed by Nelson McCormick, of last year's Prom Night as well as plenty of TV show episodes. The screenplay was originally written by Donald E. Westlake and then revised by J.S. Cardone (The Covenant, Prom Night). Screen Gems will debut The Stepfather in theaters on October 16th this fall.

I love Dylan Walsh but I don't think this will be anything like the original. I'd rather it be a drama about a new dad but no there always needs to be a cheesy horror flick that ruins a career or shows the same shit over and over again. #1 That is exactly what I thought! And this trailer gave away everything so pass!

You have to admit...the swinging circular saw at the end is pretty great. You should all go back and watch the original. Terry O'Quinn (Locke from LOST) is the stepfather. It's actually a pretty good movie and O'Quinn is awesome as always.

who decides what goes into these trailers? they give away way too much about what is going to happen, especially at around the 2:00 minute mark.

I don't think Walsh can beat Terry O'quinn (John f'ing Locke) as a manical killer.

Terry O'Quinn. Walsh seems to be too nice, which isn't bad.

This would have been awesome if directed by David Cronenberg. Still, i might watch it.

Yep. PG 13. All the good parts are in this preview. So enjoyed that while it lasted. But yes I will agree. The hanging circular saw, was PRETTY sweet.

It seems like every movie that comes out can be referenced to a movie that already came out in the past. This looks like that, that looks like this... then when they reboot or remake a movie, people complain about that as well. I guess there really is no more originality.

The poster's soooo cheesy, who ever came up with that idea ought to be fired! looks like some japanese executives strike placards.

This is the crappy version of Domestic Disturbance (Which wasn't all that great to begin with). I guess Vince Vaugn did star in a crappy version of Psycho...so he deserves it.

Wish Hollywood would come up with original ideas! Way too soon for this to be remade.
