Date Night Trailer

20th Century Fox has debuted the teaser trailer for Date Night starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey as a married couple who go out on a romantic date and get caught up in some crazy shit. This also stars an excessive amount of other big name actors including (some of whom you'll see in the trailer): Mila Kunis, Mark Wahlberg, James Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Kristen Wiig, Ray Liotta, Common, and Taraji P. Henson. There are some funny lines and funny moments and Mark Wahlberg has some impressive abs, but that's it. Most people will get a kick out if it, but personally I think this looks absurdly stupid. Oh well, have fun.

In New York City, a case of mistaken identity turns a bored married couple's (Steve Carell and Tina Fey) attempt at a glamorous and romantic evening into something more thrilling and dangerous. Thoughts?

Date Night is directed by Fox's goto guy for comedies, Shawn Levy, of the past comedies Just Married, Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther, and both of the Night at the Museum movies. The screenplay was written by newcomer Josh Klausner, who wrote a script called The 4th Floor back in 1999 and also worked on Shrek the Third. Fox is bringing Date Night to theaters everywhere on April 9th, 2010 early next year.

I was laughing at the trailer. I'm also a big Carell fan so I guess I'm a little biased.

radiogorillaz on Nov 11, 2009

Meh... I'll watch it on DVD

Lacey on Nov 11, 2009

"Kill shot! Kill shot!!" I love Steve Carell aha Plus we need some of these 90's hokey bad comedies. Just something to sit down with and enjoy.

Maxx on Nov 11, 2009

this looks stupidly fun. also the McPoyle brother from it's always sunny in philadelphia teaming up with common might be the most ridiculous part of this.

Jeff on Nov 11, 2009

hahaha... looks like something original and fun. I'll be there.

Marty Martin on Nov 11, 2009

I think it's cute

Dan @ MovieViral on Nov 11, 2009

It's not Avatar or a comic book adaptation, so I'm not surprised this site isn't going crazy about it.

branden on Nov 11, 2009

Ah, combining one of the best things from The Office with one of the worst things from 30 Rock. How will this balance out? I wish he would have said "that's what she said" at the end.

S on Nov 11, 2009

"ditto" to #7 Avatar is going to turn out to be one of the biggest disappointments in movie history.

LetterJ13 on Nov 11, 2009

out of all the crappy comedies we've seen lately, at least this one is able to put together a trailer that's actually entertaining. i hope the same can be said about the movie. i'll be lookin out for it. side note-i don't think i've ever seen common change his expression. he needs to get a role in which he doesn't play a gangster.

JP on Nov 11, 2009

Looks fun and quirky. Great cast too, so that means I'll be watching.

Tunker on Nov 11, 2009

I agree, I think this looks pretty lame.

Doug on Nov 11, 2009

It looks like Steve Carell is playing the same character. Whatever happened to the actor we saw in Little Miss Sunshine? We know its in him why is it keeps giving us the same ole shlock? pass.

CatieLee on Nov 11, 2009

Is that Olivia Munn as the hostess?

Angry Chief on Nov 11, 2009

agree with number 7.

sheesh on Nov 11, 2009

#7 #9 #15 - Yea, well, I like comic book movies, action movies, adventure movies, good dramas, so on, so why is that a problem that I write about those? I don't love everything, I have my own distinct tastes. And secondly, this looks like crap. And since I run this site if I think it looks bad, I'm allowed to voice my opinion, as are you. But so far none of you have voiced your opinion on this trailer. You've only said how much you don't like the site. C'mon, say something constructive about the trailer if you like it so damn much!

Alex Billington on Nov 11, 2009

It is a good trailer. It will be a fun movie like Get Smart. This will be a big hit in April. I bet if the opening logo was WB every site would have said good stuff. fucking hypocrites

JoJo on Nov 11, 2009

Ok Alex... I like this trailer more than the Avatar trailer(s) I at least know what's going on in this trailer I think Date Night will net more profits than Avatar If all Steve Carell said during this whole trailer was "I'm gay, I'm gay, I'm gay" it still wouldn't be as gay as Avatar looks right now

branden on Nov 11, 2009

I am not a big Steve Carell fan so I don't know why, but this looks strangely funny. I actually watched the trailer three times. Looks pretty good actually.

Mike Lynch on Nov 11, 2009

i think branden doesnt like Avatar.... I think. This movie doesnt look too bad.

Solo Dolo Polo on Nov 11, 2009

70% the trailer was pretty well worn and awful, but the remaining 30% was funny enough. I have to think that at least a few of these actors chose the movie for a good reason. DVD rental, for sure.

Mark on Nov 11, 2009

Offce + 30 Rock = Win. This will be hilarious. Gonna see it for sure.

Jeff on Nov 11, 2009

Steve Carell, James Franco and Mila Kunis? Definitely one for me.

Ravster on Nov 11, 2009

i thought it was funny............the dialogue is what stood out for me. it looks like a fun, light-hearted movie. i didn't find it "stupid" funny at all. i'll be checking this out.

beavis on Nov 11, 2009

"i think we're gonna get whacked off" made me giggle too.

lego on Nov 11, 2009

the dialogues are good! especially when SC delivers it... however, funny as SC is and after watching a couple of his movies, i find his tone quite repetitive in every comedy movie his in... so it feels like watching the same movie all over again... but that's just the trailer i just watched, hopefully the movie offers more...

Name is Required on Nov 11, 2009

me like to see movie at sometimes place

dave on Nov 11, 2009

Has Steve Carell lost weight? In that last scene he looks much thinner that some of the office episode I've watched lately. Looks like Get Smart...which I loved. Plus it's Tina Fey! I mean Anne Hathaway was great but this gives me more hope comedy wise from Tina. SO Yes. I will see it. Cause it's not supposed to be Academy Award winning, its just a fun comedy.

Seductive Flamingo on Nov 11, 2009

That looks like a fun movie, I liked the trailer. Steve Carrell doesn't have to do much to make me laugh, his facial expression alone makes me crack up most of the time. And I love Tina Fey. I think she is one of the best female comedians we have right now. James Franco and Mila Kunis have long proven their comedic talent, so they're just the icing on the cake. I'll definitely watch this. And Alex...yes, this is your site. But, as someone who writes about movies professionally, you should probably try to be as un-bias as possible. Or, if you wanna voice your opinion, think about how you do it. Something like "There are some funny lines and funny moments and Mark Wahlberg has some impressive abs, but that's it. Most people will get a kick out if it, but personally I think this looks absurdly stupid. Oh well, have fun." can come across as incredibly smug and condescending to the people who don't have the same movie preferences as you. Also, the "Leave me alone! This is my site and I do what I want!" attitude doesn't really help. Come on, dude. You're better than that.

SuicidalOptimist on Nov 11, 2009

@ #14 yeah that's Oliva Munn

Dan @ MovieViral on Nov 11, 2009

Okay. This actually made me laugh quite a bit, but fuck Shawn Levy. TINA FEY, PLEASE STOP ACTING IN SHIT THAT YOU DON'T WRITE. Thank you.

Fuelbot on Nov 11, 2009

Hrm... Steve Carell being Steve Carell and I don't find Tina Fey funny. Not a fan of both... Not interested.

teyhtr on Nov 11, 2009

Olivia Munn in a MOVIE! Epic win, lol.

Outlaw on Nov 11, 2009

this movie has an awesome cast i so wanna se it!!!

charlie on Nov 11, 2009

You tell em' Alex! @ #7, 9, and 15 (but mostly you Branden) WE GET IT. You don't like Avatar. You probably voiced this opinion on the various other Avatar articles. No one was asking about what you think about Avatar or what you think about this website. Comment about Date Night or don't comment. And if you think the site over-hypes Avatar and superhero movies too much, THEN STOP VISITING IT. Don't come on here and whine and bitch all the time! Alex does a damn good job at running this site in my opinion, and if you don't like it, leave. But don't corrupt a site that I enjoy with your annoying COMPLAINTS. And Branden if you can't tell what's going on in the Avatar trailers... YOU'RE AN IDIOT. So do us all a favor and stop bitching about the website and keep your comments about Avatar to a minimum whine (and on posts pertaining to Avatar). THANK YOU!

Gopie on Nov 11, 2009

By the way, I think this movie looks pretty funny, for what it is. And I gotta say I'm lovin' the cast!

Gopie on Nov 11, 2009

A set up, characters, looks way better than the Avatar trailer to me. Kind of a RomCom of North by Northwest? It should do well in that April release slot.

RogerOThornhill on Nov 11, 2009

Set up, characters, conflict... all things present in the Avatar trailer. 🙂

CharlesInCharge on Nov 11, 2009

this is gonna be a great popcorn flick. leave your brain at the door and let the ride begin. seems a bit more faster paced than get smart and not as slow as knocked up, but its only a trailer. lite comedy. it'll score a 7/10 imo just due to the casting.

Buggy166 on Nov 11, 2009

Ill watch

OCP on Nov 11, 2009

I shall watch it for Olivia Munn...and because I hate

zeldaprimed on Nov 11, 2009

what was that horrible country sounding rock song jesus christ who are the people who do this to trailers my god

LK on Nov 11, 2009

@42-I couldn't agree more. That song(proud to say I don't know it) sucks out loud. The trailer started with that sort of "classic-tv/Dick Van Dyke Show" sound, maybe spread a little classic "spy/thriller/mystery" sound in for the intense parts. Not something that sounds like a crappy Ozzy song sung by Toby Keith or the other way around. I think this movie actually doesn't look that bad, but I enjoy a stupid comedy that I can simply laugh at every now and again. I'm an indie film lover and enjoy small dramas, but once in a while I like to just enjoy a little rom-com to remember what it was like to have 'rom' and not just the 'com' in my life. Oh, and just to stay on topic: I think Avatar really does look like Thundercats: Clone Wars. For once, I actually agree with Hitler.

Scotty97 on Nov 11, 2009

Who is Common's sidekick (guy who wants to perform kill shot :)? I seen him somewhere (probably some tv show), but I can't recall where. Is it Jimmi Simpson? It's person from imdb cast of this movie who most resemble guy from trailer but his filmography don't ring any bell to me 🙁

xMort on Nov 12, 2009

Looks watchable 🙂 Ill probably see it on DVD or something though..

coswell on Nov 12, 2009

#35...CAPS are cool. I guess I am getting into this conversation late, but if the author wants to rip into the movie, then he can stand to get ripped into as well. I don't frequent this site all that much, but I can tell you I have seen more blue people running around a jungle than a Smurfs episode. Btw, Date Night looks funny.

John Johnerson on Nov 12, 2009

Yeah it's a DVD movie if I see some more trailers that I like. I like both Steve Carell and Tina Fey so... that helps.

Syphous on Nov 12, 2009

Gopie must be the name of one of a female Navi that you have a crush on or something; that's the only reason I can think of someone getting that upset of disliking Avatar. And yes, I do know what's going on in Avatar. I read the first 10 articles about Avatar then got sick of it. I hope Alex doesn't expect everyone to agree with his opinions about movies all the time. He gets so sensitive when more than 1 person disagrees that he has to put a dark gray background on his post and makes sure everyone hears him defend himself and basically tells them that they're stupid for disagreeing with him. This trailer this very good. It made me laugh, Carell and Fey are hilarious and the various other big name actors will make this comedy great.

branden on Nov 12, 2009

#44, he's one of the McPoyle brothers from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I'm surprised he's not going around fork stabbing people in this trailer. Personally, I'm a huge Steve Carell and Tina Fey fan. And James Franco and Mila Kunis cameos...count me in.

Dan on Nov 12, 2009

Also, that's my kid to a T. Piledriver, kick to the face, followed by "Daddy, I love you". And then some requests for pancakes and cartoon network.

Dan on Nov 12, 2009

Fork stab this person...

#48 ... clever! Alex isn't calling you stupid for disagreeing with him, he's saying talk about Date Night. If you think people talk about Avatar too much then DON'T BRING IT UP. No one even mentioned it before you! You're a hypocrite and you're obviously immature, making fun of my username like you're in 5th grade. You're pathetic. And there are plenty of other articles on this site.

Gopie on Nov 12, 2009

Jesus, was that Nickelback singing that fucking song! I'm out! Fucking stupid!

LeftHanded on Nov 12, 2009

I never disagreed that there were other articles on this site, I was just informing Alex that he needs to think more about what he insults from first glance. He says this looks absurdly stupid but other weirdo movies look so good; it doesn't make sense. It's Steve Carell and Tina Fey, it's supposed to be stupidly funny! Not everything has to be "epic" (hate that stupid overused, unoriginal use of the word) Geez, not coming here for any comedy movie news that's for sure. #9, 15, 29, 46 agree with me. You and Alex are alone, so have fun agreeing with yourselves. And calling me a 5th grader? I HAVEN'T USED SO MANY ALL CAPS SINCE I WAS IN 5TH GRADE.

branden on Nov 12, 2009

I use caps for emphasis since I can't use italics and it wouldn't make sense to use quotation marks. Stop criticizing such petty things like my user-name and the manner in which I type, and start criticizing what I'm actually saying if you don't like it. Alex has his own opinion, as do you. It makes perfect sense that he thinks one movie looks bad and a completely different movie looks good. It's his opinion. What doesn't make sense is how you say people talk about Avatar too much but you're the one provoking such discussions! That is entirely hypocritical! Whatever, I'm done having this ridiculous argument with such an annoying little child. And for your sake, I didn't capitalize anything since your eyes can't bare to handle it.

Gopie on Nov 12, 2009

Love it... can't wait to see it

Eman on Nov 12, 2009

I think this looks very funny, besides, I'm pretty sure that the Steve Carell-Tina Fey combo willl be something IRRESISTIBLE for moviegoers. I'm in no matter how "stupid" this is!!! (on a personal note, and after seeing all the comments, I do agree with the perception of how huge a flop Avatar will be, hahaha)

leinergroove on Nov 12, 2009

yeah cool cast but looks god awful! and why is Olivia Munn in everything now it seems?! not that im complaining cause daaaamn shes hot but why?? haha

ha1rball on Nov 12, 2009

haha, you say stop criticzing petty things, then you go on to call me a child and say my eyes can't bare all caps. Wow. This one time I brought up Avatar and the only reason I did was to tell him to stop talking about it, that's not being hypocritical. Maybe if I do it more than once, then ok, but I haven't. I provoked you and Alex (who are still alone in your defenses), but you are the one that called me an idiot first, told me to stop visiting the site, stop whining, etc in all caps, then called me a 5th grader and a child. I think name calling is characteristic of a child and 5th grader, but think what you want, man. If you continue to disagree, there seems to be more and more comments of people agreeing with me regarding Date Night as well as Avatar, so you can continue to be alone.

branden on Nov 12, 2009

Looks pretty good, good movie for a couple. It's also funny seeing the site owner come on here and whine about us normal peons.

i think we all should be adult enought to not bitch about movies, its entertainment we won`t change the world if we argue, we just get angry at peopel we will never meet in real life and since were not children(at least a few of us) we shouldn`t yell at each other because of things we cannot change nd didn`t direct okay? and i love james cameron(he will do fine, but the movie cannot be as good as the hype says because thats what a hype creates: disappointment) and i will always watch every steve carrell movie because he is hilarious!!! i wish you all a nice week, im out!!!

yojoe on Nov 16, 2009

Alex, no one said anything about the site. They just mentioned how they're not surprised you down talk this but hype the hell out of Avatar. Don't get so worked up over some petty internet comments and then act all high and mighty. You got really defensive when they slammed your highly anticipated movies, yet slam this movie, which could be their highly anticipated movie. Don't get me wrong though, this movie looks like crap. The difference being I have no reputation to be tarnished. Keep an open mind, and don't be so blunt. The method to increasing traffic...?
