Five Great X-Men Origins: Wolverine Character Profiles

In three more weeks, the summer movie season will finally kick off with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which still has quite a bit of buzz, despite being leaked online. MTV has debuted five individual character profiles - 30-second video intros to five of the main characters we'll see in the movie. Just in case you didn't know who Wolverine or Sabretooth were (I really hope that's no one), these videos will provide you with a very quick introduction. In addition to those two, there are profiles on Gambit (played by Taylor Kitsch), Deadpool aka Wade Wilson (played by Ryan Reynolds), and Wraith (played by Will.i.am). Enjoy!

Wolverine lives a mutant life, seeks revenge against Victor Creed (who will later become Sabretooth) for the death of his girlfriend, and ultimately ends up going through the mutant Weapon X program.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is directed by South African filmmaker Gavin Hood, of the Oscar winner Tsotsi and Rendition previously. The script was written by veteran screenwriter David Benioff, of 25th Hour, Troy, and The Kite Runner previosuly. The character of Wolverine was first created by Len Wein and John Romita Sr. back in 1974. Fox will debut X-Men Origins: Wolverine in theaters everywhere on May 1st this summer.

i hate how they messed with deadpool in this movie

Nick on Apr 13, 2009

Aw man, the Deadpool one is totally ripped off from Full Metal Jacket. Lame...

D6 on Apr 13, 2009

Deadpool's was the best. I really hope he gets a bunch of screentime...

RPD on Apr 13, 2009

How have they messed with Deadpool? He didn't take the name Deadpool until after Weapon X fucked him up. Right now, he's just Wade Wilson, trying to get Weapon X to fix him up.

nate on Apr 13, 2009

fucking great doesn't work in england.

zetsu on Apr 13, 2009

Those are interesting little character profiles. Damn shame I have to sit through those annoying ads to watch them.

Tom Brazelton on Apr 13, 2009

Deadpool is in the movie for like 5 minutes.

Darunia on Apr 13, 2009

I really hope this movie doesnt fall flat..at least not liked the leaked version

Trey on Apr 13, 2009

Ryan Reynolds said in an interview that he wanted to make sure people understood that Wade Wilson is in this movie, NOT Deadpool.

Syphous on Apr 13, 2009

I thought Wolverine was supposed to be a badass. He has no balls in this movie.

Fuelbot on Apr 13, 2009

Video won't play

James on Apr 13, 2009

This movie will end up being a pretty decent action movie. It's straight up and easy to follow. Most really hardcore Wolverine fans will be disappointed for this is the Wolverine right from the movies and not the Wolvie you know and love from the comics. Things have changed, times have changed and if you take this film for what it is then you should enjoy your time. Eat your popcorn and watch it hit the fan. If you go into this thing expecting the definitive wolverine movie, you won't get it here... I actually have an idea for a Wolverine movie that I want to do down the line in the future and my thinking behind it was to come up with an epic idea for one Wolverine movie. If there was going to be one Wolverine movie, what would it be? Well, I have that idea and script in my head. Hopefully, someday I'll get the rights to make it... It'll basically be the Dark Knight of Marvel movies.

Shaun on Apr 13, 2009

Well... This seems sooo lame... Look like some reality show videos... I had great expectations for this movie... But every footage that is out it seems worst than X3...

Pedro Lopes on Apr 13, 2009

....Wow ....as in the bad-wow These profiles encourage my thinking that this movie will be pretty weak n' cheeseball. Am I the only one who thinks these look lame? Like bad-summer-movie-using-flash-to-hide-crap lame. Also, as excited as i was for Riggins to take the deck on Gambit, my excitement for this character has totally dwindled. Heck, they all seem pretty weak. Damndamndamn.

Voice of Reason on Apr 13, 2009

MARVEL has many alternate realities , if you are a comic fan don't expect the MARVEL 616 Universe adaptation here.

NeoSlyfer on Apr 13, 2009

well having seen the leaked raw film i need to voice my concerns πŸ™ guys why do you keep messing with characters the millions have loved for a looooong time πŸ™ first lets talk about a few things (no worries i will try to keep a hush hush profile for those that hasnt seen the leaked film) pros: great sabretooth; solid strong well played sinister and bloodthirsty great wraith; i dont know why but he looks right on spot in total sync with the comic-self ok gambit; nice casting, he has that charm but where is the accent that we have loved ???? ?? agent Zero; well in the books agent Zero is one cool dude, and a good one why change him into a strictly follw the orders without any remorse??? loveable silverfox; well it has to be silverfox πŸ˜€ and she was gorgeous, aside from Cate from Lost she has the most beautiful twinkling set of eyes i really would want to lose myself in πŸ˜€ nice action scenes cool effects (ok some look cheasy but gotta keep in mind that it was a raw copy almost none of the cg were completed let alone mastered) within the movie realm good tie ins, explanations and the cons: i really hate it when you guys who are in the chair that says action ruin the characters, storyline, origins etc why did you have to go and ruin a perfectly cool character such as deadpool???? why?? up until the weapon 11 program he was perfrect. wiseass motor mouth that just wouldnt stop and the scene where we see him go nuts with the twin katanas and slice a bullet in two so that he would get the pervs directly behind him.. those were good scenes and a perfect deadpool but why ruin him with your opinion of a perfect soldier which i believe looks like shit with absolutely no charisma and looks like fresh out of a B creature movie?? but we also get to see great deal of young mutants who we may/will see in the future flicks the escape from the program scene where we lifetime fans have memorised scene by scene was very weak in intensity compared to the graphic novel Weapon X by BWS i completely went nuts at the 20 sec escape scene πŸ™ it was a total dissappointment i've really wanted to get a berserk blood red scene with bodies piling up one on another but still the two sets of three blades slicing the steel door in a X way was good πŸ˜€ and we really didnt need the Ma and Pa Kents πŸ˜€ but help clear the bike and the jacket origins in the first x men flick πŸ˜€ well cant wait to see the polished and finished movie in theatres hugh jackman is the Wolverine afterall πŸ˜€ him alone i can go to see in the whole movie πŸ˜€ cheers

burak "daequitas" on Apr 13, 2009

I watched this two weeks ago. and i was disapointed. Lets go transformers two!

Superluke on Apr 13, 2009

seriously full page ads? is this site turning into another imdb?

tom on Apr 13, 2009

I'm amazed that there are still comic book fans who think Hollywood is making these movies for them. "guys why do you keep messing with characters the millions have loved for a looooong time" -Comic book circulation (for the handful of most popular titles) are barely measured in the 100's of thousands. So stop thinking that there are millions of fan-boys out there looking for a true adaptation of the comic. -Hollywood makes movies for exactly one reason... to make money. -Hollywood makes money by appealing to as wide an audience as possible. -You've had years, if not decades, to absorb the source material. Hollywood has to make a movie that someone who has never heard of Wolverine, the X-men or even superheroes can understand at the end of 90-120 minutes. I'd love to see a 100% true to the source material X-men movie as much as the next comic geek, but please for the love of all that is holy try to understand that the ONLY way it will ever happen is if one of us becomes a billionaire and decides to blow a huge wad of cash making a movie that only a handful (in terms of global audience) people will watch and enjoy.

Joel on Apr 13, 2009

I agree with #19 on several points, but I'd also love to see a true to the source X-Men movie, which I already have written and planned out in my head. It is actually more of a Wolverine movie but it ties together the X-men as well and can be a big hit. I am going to be a high end movie producer/writer/director and the movie will be viewed by more than a handful for several reasons. The X-men movies and super hero movies and this wolverine movie are already setting the foundation of my future audience. People are getting more and more into comic movies with each year that passes and with every comic based movie that comes out. (Movies like the Dark Knight help tremendously) I will also establish my own audience with the movies I make, and with the money I accumulate, I will gain the rights to Wolverine and the X-Men and make my own adaptation (probably not 100% faithful, but damn close to the source material.) It is all about satisfying the masses and making it accessible to a wide audience, I agree with that, but hollywood doesn't has it's eyes open. Fox particularly doesn't really understand the passion and dedication of film making. Their movies often lack soul, especially their adaptations of beloved characters and stories. All it takes is the right film maker, with the right vision, under the right circumstances. It's a lot to come together at once, but if one is determined, nothing is impossible.

Shaun on Apr 13, 2009

Well having read the interveiw the Ryan about how Wade Wilson is in the movie and not deadpool, I'm mildly let down. If anyone has read the deadpool comics(even the crappy line where he teamed up with cable)as much as I have you would know that while Wade was a wise ass before he went into weapon X he didn't get disfigured till the artifcial healing factor Weapon Xgave he bonds with his cancer. Now I'm interested to see if that plays out in the movie. Maybe as it goes along his skin will slowly disfigure and It will show him going crazy and being Hauled off to The Shed by Dr. Killjoy(ha ha Francis) so that they could open up a way for there to be a DEADPOOL movie would be a dream come true

Eric on Apr 13, 2009

What’s with the "film not yet rated?" I thought it was PG13? From what I heard, you will notice on the new trailers things that weren’t in the work print (i.e. whole new action sequences, new Gambit and Deadpool). I think this was a calculated leak, and they have "fixed" this movie.

Jay on Apr 13, 2009

The movie sucks big time, and the prefect example is that video of Deadpool with ripped off line from Full Metal Jacket. It's above Fox to make anything original.

2+2=4? on Apr 13, 2009

Great? More proof that there's comic movie burnout in the air... Even with a gun pointed at me, I wouldn't watch this pos. Can we let the comics be comics and move on to something new?

sd on Apr 13, 2009

Well, I don't want to see the movie anymore now. I do however have a sudden, intense urge to eat some Bertolli's...

Dan on Apr 13, 2009

so the trailers made me want to see this... and these... well they fall kinda flat... maybe I won't see it opening night... :/

dave13 on Apr 13, 2009

thank you for using mtv because i cant watch the videos πŸ™

Spider94 on Apr 13, 2009

#23 I couldn't agree more. I saved Deadpool for last because I have the worst fear for what they were going to do to him. I think the Full Metal Jacket rip off sealed the deal.

Stevo on Apr 13, 2009

I watched the leaked version man it kind of sucked especially the story line and they definitely murdered Deadpool I'm talking about character wise and his story in the movie. When I first heard that they were making a Wolverine Origins I was excited and I would view other people's comments on it would suck and would compare it to TDK and I felt people have to give it a chance but now that I seen the leaked version I kind of agree with the people that opposed it. I was disappointed I feel like why does fox have to always F*** up every comic book character and I wish Fox would just give back the the full rights to Marvel and I agree with #19 it is mainly about money. But I'm still going to go see it at the movies to see the final version hopefully it is 100% better. And idk if anyone has notice if they changed the movie title making it seem as if they are going to make more x-men origins movies and yes I have heard of the Magneto, Deadpool, and Gambit spin-offs just saying.

Egh Egh on Apr 13, 2009

Wow...while the profiles weren't, dare I say horrible? Gambit's was. Man that was lame and cheesy. The others while cheesy had a cheesy charm so w/e. Will I see this? If my dad pays for it but I'm kinda scared now with the reviews and there are other things I'd rather spend money on at the theaters.

Hey Ya on Apr 13, 2009

Wow, you have officially seen about as much screen time for gambit and deadpool as you do throughout the entire movie!.... ok so that might be a slight stretch, but using these characters as advertising is just going to hurt them in the long run seeing that play little role in the movie

Cory on Apr 13, 2009

MTV suck. I found them somewhere else: Gambit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMEt21Gtdf8 Victor Creed/Sabretooth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvagLGrCv94 Wolverine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltCIEtRBRGo Wraith: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEtEvxOYmj8 Wait Wilson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VRbYblm5hI Still looking forward to it, have held off from watching the leaked version.

Crapola on Apr 13, 2009

mtv not putting out in the uk. zaney. all the haters up there made my mind for me. gonna stay in and watch the poonies instead

bassbin on Apr 13, 2009

This is just another Fox poop project. Fox already released Dragonball: Evolution isn't that enough crap for one year? No I guess not. This movie isn't out yet so Fox still has one more pathetically made film to show us. I've been saying that this movie sucks and now thanks to the workprint people saw this movie for what it is. A movie with a senseless and horribly paced narrative with characters that act like cardboard cut outs. Now lets move on to the films with potential this year. (Star Trek, Terminator, Ninja Assassin,ROTF)

Bobby Hill on Apr 13, 2009

I really hope nobody expected a true-to-the-comics film. It ain't happenin'...

RPD on Apr 13, 2009

Great, another video that I cannot view because of my region. PLEASE, If someone can get ahold of these videos with another video player please let us know.

Silence on Apr 13, 2009

Silence, the links are there in post 32.

Crapola on Apr 13, 2009

The flick will, no doubt, be geared toward a wide audience! I understand that things have to be altered and adapted to appeal to the masses! Although many posting here say otherwise, I'm still checkin' this flick opening night!

Spider on Apr 13, 2009

Gambit has a ridiculous hat and Deadpool has a too nice face, but it will work... Logan rocks. And this movie will be better than the Dragonball Evolution gag.

Millus on Apr 13, 2009

The Awsome Norwegian Dude With Sunglasses on Apr 13, 2009

Why the fuck the people who hace seen WORK PRINT VERSION of the film are speaking about it ???

NeoSlyfer on Apr 13, 2009

Nice, all videos won't play outside USA, GG

Jon Von Noibauten on Apr 13, 2009

i seen the movie no lie just trust me but it wasn't all finished. it is amazingly good and if you still don't believe me *Spoiler* that girl that wolverine loves is actually trying to capture him and she isn't really dead

???? on Apr 13, 2009

i hope the release has more footage/storyline. cuz the origins i saw was.... eh, at best.

mrmr on Apr 13, 2009

OMFG,Ryan Reynolds he was born for the character. This 30 sec. profiles aren't bad i am still gonna check out the movie in the opening night. Can't wait another 15 days and @#42 i am outside the US and the 5 vids worked fine.

Fisherr on Apr 13, 2009

#19 hit it, the rest of you need to get the hell over how they messed with your favorite character or how they arent doing things exactly the way you like.

N on Apr 13, 2009

These videos were rubbish. This film would have been a financial loss for FOX regardless of whether it leaked on the web or not.

Blake on Apr 13, 2009

Roberto Dinamite on Apr 13, 2009

Deadpool is going to do more with 5-10 minutes of screentime that all of the other people combined over the course of this 2 hour film.

moviekidmike on Apr 13, 2009

And by the way, you simply CANNOT judge an UNFINISHED print of the movie that I bet was put together before the re shoots were done. As someone who is only somewhat familiar with these characters, this looks like an AMIZING film. No it won't be TDK, nothing ever will be so get over it. From what I've seen they have absolutely NAILED Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds is the best actor the could have chosen.

moviekidmike on Apr 13, 2009

They need to place all the focus on Wolverine and Sabretooth. Everyone else can wait for their own spinoff to be developed. But all of these were so freakin cool it boggles my mind.

WEAPON X on Apr 14, 2009

@47 Congratulations on using the word 'rubbish'.

WEAPON X on Apr 14, 2009

A few days ago I saw a TV spot that featured Emma Frost, Cyclops and a bunch of other mutants escaping from [seemingly] Weapon X program. Did anyone else see that? It was pretty badazz, it featured a TON of Emma Frost - and I haven't seen it since! Not even online. Any help?

Jay on Apr 18, 2009

ok, gambit is the tightest x-men there is, im so glad they finally put him in one of the movies and dead pool looks sweet, i always thought ryan reynolds would make a good super hero and never heard of wraith but i love teleporters, cant wait to see the movie

DeVaughn Taylor on Apr 18, 2009

wraith is just like the moviw named jumper

andy on May 2, 2009
