Hugh Jackman

Late last week, the Valley Independent Sentinel in Connecticut reported on casting for Antoine Fuqua's Prisoners project which is supposed to start shooting in Derby and Shelton, Connect. next February. The paper talks about casting 750 extras for the film and shooting in the city. They also mention that "local officials said they’ve been told Hugh Jackman is attached to the movie." Originally we had heard rumors about Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale being attached, but when Fuqua took over, I thought he dumped that old cast. Could Jackman be the first big actor cast in Fuqua's version? I'd be very happy if this is true.

Prisoners, written by newcomer Aaron Guzikowski, is a dark tale about a man who, after his daughter and her friend are kidnapped and the cops fail to solve the crime, takes matters into his own hands, holding hostage the person he suspects committed the crime. The newspaper also revealed more plot details, saying it's "about two families who live across the street from each other… These lifelong friends are thrust into turmoil when their two youngest daughters go missing. The movie centers on the family’s desperation in finding their children with the help of their neighbors and local police force; especially one police detective."

I'm not sure which role Jackman is playing, but I suspect it may be one of the fathers. If that is the case, I'd be pretty damn excited about this casting, as I've got high hopes for this and putting Jackman in a heavy role like that would be brilliant. I've heard so many good things about the script that I'm sure it'll deliver without fault. As for Fuqua, it was up to him to find the right cast and simply follow through bringing Guzikowski's script to life, which it sounds like he's doing. You can read the complete newspaper article for more details on Prisoners, but there's nothing else in it that we haven't heard before Stay tuned for more updates soon!

I read the script and it's really good. I hope Jackman will star in it as the father. That would be excellent casting.

What is up with all these "takes matters into his own hands movies" i mean there was - Death Sentence - Kevin Bacon Taken - Liam Neeson Harry Brown - Micheal Cain Law Abiding Citizen - Gerard Butler And now this one, there is only so many times i see a man fight bad guys after they killed his family lol Come on people get some new ideas

@2 - all those movies are awesome though, I'd rather see a generic awesome movie than an original idea that sucks.

@3 Its such a recycled idea though, where is the original thought, all someone is done is get one awesome idea and change the actors around, i'll admit they are awesome movies but only because they are based on an awesome idea, i might as well of watched one of them 5 times

Each person is entitled to their opinion, i was just expressing my point about the lack of ideas people are coming up with

I was really looking forward to this movie with Christian Bale preferably in the role of the father. It's not that I don't like Jackman. It's just that, knowing Bale's ability to transform himself for a role both physically and mentally, I couldn't wait to see what he'd do with it! Wonder if there's any possibility of him being cast alongside Jackman, since they were so good together in The Prestige?

Sounds a little like Taken without the butt kicking skills of an agent.

I thought I read that Russell Crowe is replacing Bale as one of the leads. Has it been confirmed?

@Layne I'd like too to see Jackman and Bale together again but if that would happen Jackman would be the one who'd play the father. Because n the film there are two leads: the father and the detective, who according to the script is younger than the father. Isn't Bale younger than Jackman? Hugh is 41. I think Bale is 35 or something. Anyway, nothing is confirmed so all that is pure speculation.

Im sorry but Law abiding citizen did this perfectly already..I agree with #2 get some new ideas. Not that I wont check it out though as that idea actually churns out great movies.

@:P I don't think Jackman's six years over Bale would be enough to make a real difference in who was cast in which role. In the upcoming movie "The Fighter", Bale plays the older brother, while Mark Wahlberg, who is three years older than Bale plays the younger. There's not enough difference in Bale and Jackman's ages to make one of them look significantly older than the other.
