District 13: Ultimatum

I decided to feature the official US trailer for District 13: Ultimatum today because there's no better way to wrap up 2009 than with some kick ass parkour. This is the last Sunday of the year, but don't fear, as the Indie Trailer Sunday series will still continue on next year (as long as you guys want it to?). Anyway, District 13: Ultimatum is the sequel to the parkour movie District B13 from 2004. This already showed at some film festivals and I've heard great things, especially if you loved the first one (read Neil Miller's review) or just want to see some awesome parkour. But enough of my bantering, watch the District 13: Ultimatum trailer!

Damien and Leito return to District 13 on a mission to bring peace to the troubled sector that is controlled by five different gang bosses, before the city's secret services take drastic measures to solve the problem.

District 13: Ultimatum is directed by up-and-coming Spanish filmmaker Patrick Alessandrin, of Spanish films August 15th and Mean Spirit previously. The screenplay was written by fellow filmmaker Luc Besson who also wrote all three of the Transporter films as well as District B13, Unleashed, and Taken. Magnolia Pictures is bringing District 13: Ultimatum to limited theaters starting on February 5th, 2010 next year.

I watched this movie many months ago and it is great.

You know you can buy legitimate copies of this on DVD at amoeba right? This movie is really a retread of the original. Similar story, same bad acting. Solid action martial arts, parkour all good. It just feels stale because it's a sequel and it doesn't really introduce anything new.

This movie was nothing non the first. Enjoyable, but, honestly not that great. Love the first one, this one not so much. One great parkour scene though that sticks in my memory.

Now, I loved the first one, but this seems just like a repeat and a movie based on excactly the same premise. Offcourse, I will still check it out, and I probably will love all that good french action (a favourite) but still, it seems like they could have expanded the storyline abit.

I can see where there may have been some inspiration for Mirrors Edge.

Didn't see the first one. Should I? Looks like some awesome fighting but I didn't get what it was suppose to be about.

I didn't know they made a sequel, I saw the original and liked it well enough. Parkour is really just fun to watch and when you toss in some martial arts, you can't really lose in regard to an entertainment flick. I'll be looking for this one. 🙂 @ #16: Parkour/free-running has been around for longer than either of those games, by a long shot.

This film looks good it as a lot of the look of Luc Besson type of From Paris with Love look about it plenty of action.
