Jason Segel Joins the Cast of The Adventurer's Handbook

Jason Segel

Does this cast seem a bit old to you? Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Jason Segel is the latest to join the cast of The Adventurer's Handbook, the crazy new comedy written by Jonah Hill and Max Winkler that SNL's Akiva Schaffer is directing. The Adventurer's Handbook is the big spec script that Hill and Winkler sold to Universal back in February, about four 20-something guys, who inspired by a book of the same name, set out overseas in search of a mysterious location described in the book. It's apparently going to be an edgy, broad R-rated comedy, which sounds like it could be fun, but I won't hold my breath.

In addition to Jason Segel, who we last saw in I Love You Man and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, both Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman also star. Seems to me we're still missing a fourth big actor who will be a part of this? I wonder who they'll get to spice up the group in that final role. After watching Monster Squad on the big screen just the other day, I started thinking about how we don't see adventure films with a bunch of kids anymore, like The Goonies either. I'm hoping that The Adventurer's Handbook is kind of a current film for those who grew up on Goonies and Monster Squad but tweaked for modern times. I can only hope!

Alex, seriously, can you please stop shitting on movies before a frame has been filmed?

Alex this sounds like a great cast Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman are great and now Jason Segel casted in an adventure comedy that actually rated R, just sounds awesome. I for one they cast Paul Rudd seeing as how he and Segel got along in I love you count me in!

Fuelbot, what are you talking about? I'm not shitting on this, I'm saying it could be fun and awesome, I just have no clue what to expect... Where did I say this will suck?!

I'm all for Paul Rudd, even though he's a bit older than the other guys. Maybe Martin Starr?

"...which sounds like it could be fun, but I won't hold my breath." Guess I read it wrong. It's actually on my list of scripts to read, but I'm currently wading through the molasses that is the new Nightmare On Elm Street.

Danny McBride or Craig Robinson would be funny to me.

I love all the guys from this "new ratpack". You can just tell that they are all friends in real life. I mean, Jason Segel, Martin Starr, James Franco and Seth Rogen have been acting together since "Freaks and Geeks", which was an awesome show, btw. Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman are long time friends of Seth Rogen. It just keeps going around and around, and they keep casting each other in their movies. And why wouldn't they? I'd be pumped if I had the opportunity to do a job that I love with my best friends. Their chemistry on screen is fantastic, and their movies are always hilarious. That's probably because they don't really have to act, and basically just get paid to hang out with each other. 😉 I'm sure this will be another politically incorrect, over the top comedy. And I agree with #6, McBride and Robinson would be a great addition.

#7 who wants to be politically correct anyhow? I say let them loose and bring us the shock and awe we all want!
