If you haven't seen it yet, The Good, the Bad, the Weird is one of the finest foreign films of last year, one of my personal favorites. It's directed by South Korean filmmaker Kim Ji-Woon and stars an all-Korean cast. Kim is currently starting prep work on his next film, titled Max and the Junkmen, a remake of Claude Sautet’s 1971 heist classic Max et les Ferrailleurs which starred Michael Piccoli. Although this time he's going completely international, not only shooting in Philadelphia to mimic the "dreary look" of Europe's oldest cities, but looking to bring on an English cast, according to an interview as translated by Twitch.
"Nothing has been decided yet, but I was thinking about Clive Owen for the lead detective role, and Sienna Miller for the female protagonist. We've been talking and I've met Sienna when she came to Korea recently (to promote G.I. Joe). She seemed interested."
Max et les Ferrailleurs is a "caper noir" about a wealthy Paris detective who is frustrated by gangs of robbers whom he cannot catch. So to reestablish his stature, he persuades a group of petty thieves to rob a bank. In the meantime, he starts hanging out with the girlfriend of the group's leader all while setting up his cold plan. I'd love to see Clive Owen and Sienna Miller in this, or anyone good for that matter, just because I know Kim will do a great job. But neither of them are set in stone, so this isn't official casting, but rather just Kim expressing his interest in who he'd like to cast if he had his way. I hope he at least gets Clive Owen.
Kim Ji-Woon is hoping to start shooting around January of next year. His producers made him choose a shooting location in the US, although he wanted to shoot in London originally. This sounds like it could be a great film and I'll be looking forward to official casting confirmation and more details once they arrive.

Elizabeth Banks would be a much more fresh and interesting choice than Sienna Miller. Nothing about Sienna lends itself to film noir. Elizabeth has the acting chops and the look. http://i27.tinypic.com/2mzjhcp.jpg
