Leading Ladies Set for Woody Allen's Next Film

Naomi Watts and Freida Pinto

It looks like Woody Allen may finally be giving up on Scarlett Johansson once and for all! A few weeks ago we announced that Allen had cast Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins for the two leading males is his next untitled project, which is not the same as Whatever Works, the other film that he's currently finishing up. Variety confirms today that Allen has also cast Naomi Watts and Freida Pinto as the two leading females in the London-set film, which will shoot there this summer. We still don't know any real plot details yet, but considering this cast seems a lot like the one in Match Point, I'm guessing it's another romance of sorts.

It's hard to say I like Freida Pinto, considering Slumdog Millionaire was her first acting job ever, and she doesn't have as much screen time as some of the other actors (like Dev Patel), but I guess I'd say she was one of the better parts of Slumdog. It is pretty impressive to see her jump right on to a Woody Allen feature next, so I guess that says something about her acting talent. As for Naomi Watts, she's been starring in too many bad projects recently, from The Painted Veil to The International, although she does have a lot of talent (just look at Eastern Promises), it's just got to be put to good use in the right roles. Agreed?

Woody Allen movies are so uninteresting.

So because Scarlett isn't in two of Woody's films (which he makes one a year) that means he has given up on her? Hardly, I'm sure.

Can Freida Pinto really even act? I mean she held her own for that whole ten minutes she was in Slumdog but this really just seems like Woody cashing in.

whats wrong with giving her the benefit of the doubt?

10 f*ng minutes of screen time in a terrible movie and she gets a part in woody allen movie?

# 5 Are you really saying Slumdog Millionaire is terrible movie? Woody Allen's movies suck anyways

I think Freida Pinto's appearance will elevate the quality of any Woody Allen flick. I also, do believe that Pinto can act and she's HOT!

#5 advant if you think SM was terrible you should probably just stop watching movies altogether (and certainly stop sharing your ill-advised opinion on the internet). yeah, she didn't have much screen time but she really lit up the movie with her elegance. put her in anything and people will want to see it. you don't find someone with beauty that endearing and a face that compelling very often. so congrats to woody for bringing her to the US.

It will be interesting to see Freida Pinto going with all these bigger names, and established actors. She did well in a minor role in Slumdogg with no name actors. This could really push her into the spotlight if either the movie is a success, or she receives her props. Could propel her to a leading role if she does a good job.

hey # 5 i think you should seriously stop watching movies and frieda pinto is and will be a wonderful actor ok plus she is hot look at cruz she got an award so don't judge a book by its cover

I am happy that Naomi Watts is finally getting some more roles. She is one of my favorite actresses and between this and the one with Sean Penn. Her and Kidman are friends are something I thought, hopefully she takes kidmans roles because she has no draw at the box office any more.

This is the first time I have ever read anything you've posted about Eastern Promises being remotely positive, Alex. As I recall you hated that movie!

@ #6 & 8 yes, i did think slumdog was a terrible movie... i also didn't like vicky cristina barcelona, but want to give allen's other movies a chance. 'lighting up a movie with her elegance' doesn't really translate into any acting ability; she's just a pretty face that got a chance to show her pretty face in a movie about the pursuit of a pretty face, among other shallow accomplishments. what your basically saying is that you commend any director for basing their casting choices on superficial and popular reasons, and those movies, in turn, are the good ones. and why shouldn't i share my opinion on the internet? you did. @ 10 that thing about cruz IS judging a book by its cover
