Level 5 Alert - District 9

Level 5 Alert! Stay in your homes and secure all doors and windows! District 9 residents are violent and unpredictable! An intense new viral video for District 9 has popped up on YouTube today. It sounds like things are going crazy in Johannesburg, because these alerts are showing up all over. As far as I can tell, this video is from the website and plays instead of the normal introductory video when you visit. I'm only going to tell you that you definitely get a glimpse at some more new footage. Beyond that, it's up to you to explore more, as I think this viral for District 9 is definitely starting to ramp up. Check out the video.

An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions in Johannesburg, South Africa suddenly find a "kindred spirit" in a government agent from MNU that is exposed to their mysterious biotechnology.

District 9 is both written and directed by first-timer Neill Blomkamp, a South African filmmaker who previously directed the awesome Halo: Arms Race shorts. The screenplay was co-written by Blomkamp and writing partner Terri Tatchell. This project is based on Blomkamp's short film Alive in Joburg, which can be seen online here. Sony will be bringing District 9 to theaters everywhere on August 14th this summer.

They look a lot more agile than the one's we've seen so far. Actually quite a different pace altogether.

Nice one! Can't wait for this...

Justin on Jun 24, 2009

Is it like ET only wants to go home... but in South Africa?

theJoker on Jun 24, 2009

SPOILER ALERT! i saw this preview type thing before transformers and it looked sweet but it kind of odd seeing them trying to arrest aliens. It was like the aliens wouldn't harm any humans but we could shoot and kill them. very odd but looks fricking cool!

I hope this movie isn't corny. I want it to be cool.

I have anxiety (and depression) on Jun 24, 2009

I highly and literally doubt this movie will be corny.

Corey on Jun 24, 2009

I love the website, nice and facist, like a more serious Starship Troopers type satire.

If you call the number listed at the end of the clip (886-666-6001) you get a recording about MNU with three options, and a website url ( 1. Report a non-human sighting (lets you leave a message and tells you that by doing so you give Sony permission to use the recording where they want to) 2. Get more info on jobs with MNU, tells you to login to the website above. 0. Speak to an MNU operator. When I hit this one I got a live person saying they were with MNU and asking my name. I'm in my cube at work, so I couldn't talk, someone should call back and check it out.

Im still not 100% sure what this movie is actually about.

this looks sweeeeeet! i feel like there are a bunch of 9yr olds commenting on these threads lately. "Et just wants to go home... but in South Africa"? c'mon really, that's not funny at all.

Nick S. on Jun 24, 2009

ha ha oh man I left such a corny message. I'm such a dork. Anyways if you call the number and press 1 you can leave a message about where you spotted a non-human. ha ha I ahad to think on the spot when I left the message so mine was really really dumb. But take your time before calling and leave a good one :-p I can't wait to see this movie.

It reminds me of slave times except more futuristic.

d on Jun 24, 2009

@9 "Tankmaster". D-9 is about an alien race that crash landed in south Africa over 30 years ago, earth created an elite task force/military called MNU and eventually an agent goes rouge and tries to enlighten the world on MNU's true purposes with the alien race. The Aliens weren't meaning to invade us (but rumors are they were but when the ship shit out on them they covered it up) and are trying to adapt and live peacefully with humans. Humans aren't about that at all.

Corey on Jun 24, 2009

@13 Hi Corey XD These guys are pretty agile though.

Ryan on Jun 24, 2009

Maybe some of the messages will be used as sound effects in the movie?

Crapola on Jun 24, 2009

I think they're going to be in a new trailer.

Corey on Jun 24, 2009

Bet ya the whole movie leads up to the aliens finally blowing there lid and its end with an all out war starting....that would be sick. Or the rogue agent guy groups with the aliens to stop MNU either one is sick as hell.

Cody on Jun 24, 2009

Also at 13 sec you see a jeep getting blown to bits, weapons maybe?

Cody on Jun 24, 2009

The Aliens have way advanced weaponry, in the old youtube video theres two aliens with power/eco suits they use and MNU is chasing them and shooting at them, the aliens throw a truck and a van at them.

Corey on Jun 24, 2009

This movie looks sweet. Saw the trailer again with Transformers, can't wait. I went to the careers page. I so want the Non-Human Community Watch Officer job, 1,140,000R/year. Not sure if R is something besides dollars that that is good money!

Moviegimp on Jun 24, 2009

@13 MNU is a multinational corporation which fundamentally is tasked with research and development in science, technology adapation and integration to be precise, but MNU have their own security forces. @19 i think they said that only a limited few of non-humans had the eco suits.

Dean on Jun 24, 2009

did this clip remind anyone else of the PSA's in Starship Troopers?

Alexander on Jun 24, 2009

The movie has been given a R rating

Dean on Jun 24, 2009

@21, that and they're trying to figure out the aliens weaponry.
