Michael Bay Wants Frank Welker as Soundwave!

Voice actor Frank Welker, who has voiced everything from Abu in Aladdin to Tokka and Rahzar in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Nibbler in "Futurama" to, most importantly, Megatron and Soundwave in the Transformers cartoons, will be back to provide his voice in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. On his own official forums, Michael Bay wrote that, "I think I'm going to pursue Frank on Soundwave," after fans kept requesting that Welker return. A few weeks ago we confirmed that Hugo Weaving was back as the voice of Megatron, which was one of Welker's original characters that he didn't voice in the movie.
See, this is why I love Michael Bay, he knows exactly what the fans want. He already has Peter Cullen doing the voice of Optimus Prime, so why not go get Welker for Soundwave? Okay, sure, I understand that all the fans wanted him for Megatron, but you know what, I love Hugo Weaving just as much and was more than satisfied with his voice work anyway. Plus, according to Bay (and who can trust him?), Megatron isn't in it much, so if Welker does voice Soundwave, he'll get more screentime anyway. I'm just saying that I can't frickin' wait to see this. Bring on more Transformers! And bring on Peter Cullen and Frank Welker!

Awesome! Oh, the nostalgia. I'm hopping on youtube for the next 20 minutes to watch some transformers cartoons.

Every time I see a picture of Soundwave or hear it's name, I begin to chuckle. I mean come on, he's a fucking cassette player!

is it just me, or does it look like he's trying to sneak up on someone?

but is he going to speak in the same manner? soundwave had a very monotone and compliant way of speaking. if bay changes soundwave's attitude or demeanor, it'll be for naught and then we'll all complain. it's not about the synthesized voice, but more about how he verbalized what he wanted to say.

If he gets Frank Welker, I hope they also use the Vocoder.

Ok, so it's March and we have not done our audio/vox tracks yet? WTF? And we are still trying to sign actors for the voice overs ? WTF?!

if you got the original voice actors for optimus prime & starscream(i think it was),then fucking to right you should have frank welker no one else can do it like the man himself.top three favorite transformers are 1.starscream 2.soundwave 3.megatron.he may not look like soundwave(film vs animated verison)but try & fucking get him to sound like him.

Michael Gay aint no fucking GOD!!! He probably got so much heat. This is still kind of an insult since Welker didnt voice Megatron but at least he has some respect to cast Welker as SOundwave. Ill give him that but thats it!!!!!!

@12 Starscream's original voice actor, Chris Latta (also Cobra Commander), has been dead for YEARS... the only original voice actor in the 1st movie was Cullen as Prime. Welker did Megatron's voice in the video game from the first movie...

Thank Cybertron. Now let's hope he doesn't screw too much with the fx. Maybe a tiny, TINY bit of update tweaking (some sort of sub-bass harmonics?) - but man... it's GOT to be THE Soundwave.

On a related note - I thought Hugo Weaving (Megatron) sounded a lot like the original Galvatron. (strangely Leonard Nimoy in the animated movie - and Frank Welker in the US cartoon series). 🙂 Six degrees of Transformers separation?!!?

At #11: Almost all press leaks these days are just late releases. In reality, they're probably all finished.

#14. I will agree Michael Bay is no God, but he has done some really cool popcorn flicks. "The Rock" "Bad Boys" "Armageddon" and "Transformers" are fun movies. It's like I say if you don't like an actor's or a director's work then don't watch it. How simple is that.

"See, this is why I love Michael Bay, he knows exactly what the fans want" since when does pandering to fanboys wet dreams make someone a great director? mindless entertainment = great film? this is why the film industry is in such big trouble!!! the art form of film has become masturbatory and hollow...perfect for bubble gum popcorn "entertainment"
