Must Watch: Badass Red Band Mutant Chronicles Trailer
Magnet has debuted a badass new red band trailer for Mutant Chronicles tonight via IGN. This film is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi war film about a group of soldiers who must save Earth from an invading mutant army. It looks a lot better than I can describe it, so just watch the trailer. It's a low budget, indie sci-fi film that has been struggling to find an audience for a few years now, with a release planned for April. This latest trailer kicks some serious ass and is definitely worth watching. I've still got some high expectations for this and really hope it ends up being an awesome cult sci-fi film that not many people know about.
Watch the newest red band trailer for Mutant Chronicles:
Mutant Chronicles is set in the year 2707, on an unrecognizable Earth where a war is raging between four giant corporations who control the planet as they battle over the planet's dwindling resources. This war is soon rendered irrelevant when an errant bomb shatters an ancient buried seal, releasing a horrific mutant army from its prison deep within the earth. As the mutant scourge threatens human extinction, a squad of ragged soldiers, led by Mitch Hunter (Thomas Jane), descends into the earth in a last ditch effort to destroy the mutants and save mankind.
Mutant Chronicles is directed by English filmmaker Simon Hunter of the 2000 horror movie Lighthouse previously. The screenplay was written by Philip Eisner of only Event Horizon and Firestarter 2 previously. The film has been having problems finding a distributor, but Magnet Releasing eventually came to the rescue. They're now bring Mutant Chronicles to limited theaters very briefly on April 24th.

wha?? i saw this more than a year ago... its a very decent movie, it does drag out a little in a couple places but in a climate short on sci fi its a must watch
Janny on Jan 23, 2009
This movie stinks on ice. I saw it well over a year ago as well and it's been floating around online for MONTHS. It's full of some of the worst special effects I've ever seen and it's got a story that literally goes no where. This movie felt dated a year ago and now... it feels worse. IT reminds me of bad cut scenes from bad video games. And this is coming from the biggest fan of Ron Perlman there is... the movie is garbage
Kent on Jan 23, 2009
Interesting Movie ! It got the same feel like Skycaptain. I like the Style and Thomas Jane as the bad ass Marine and Ron Perlmann... great cast ... I am from Germany, and the film is already out on DVD and BlueRay. Nice to watch, but i doubt that i will see it again.
SnakeEye on Jan 23, 2009
Well, I've watched this trailer already a while ago and I was impressed too. It has already been released over here in germany, but only as a direct-to-dvd release and sadly enough, although i was hoping the best I've got to say it's a horrible movie. It looks good, no doubt, impressive like it is seen in this trailer but it is really, really boring. As far as I can say, it is released throughout europe in an unfinished form, but the movie I was watching had nearly no story, laughable plot-twists and lots of bad acting. Especially Malkovich plays like he's incredibly bored. It's sad, really, because I liked the trailer, but it's really not that good...
lubomir heidinger on Jan 23, 2009
I don't understand - this movie is such old news, it's already on DVD more than half a year now. And it's not that good at all, I might add. Why do you bring this up anyway? Is this a post from a year ago? Believe me, people that will know about this movie already saw it. There will be no new audience to this. Instead you should post a trailer for "Give 'em Hell, Malone", if Tomas Jane is what we are talking about.
Nekrosoma on Jan 23, 2009
Not per se pirated, but it has been released officially a long ago on some regions. This illustrates very fine one of the 'problems' of Hollywood/filmstudio's. Giving piracy too much changes and advantages. On-topic: It's a decent popcorn movie, a good sci-fi flick and a great B-movie. Good casting, good effects, bad marketing/PR and no buzz.
Tschai on Jan 23, 2009
It got a limited release here in the UK around October last year then disappeared about a week later. as far as I'm aware its already on DVD and in some countries didn't get a theatrical release at all. Although I've never played the game it's based on I was expecting good things from this. oh how disappointed I was.

I saw this in the cinema. Walked straight out and demanded a refund and, to the staff's eternal credit, they returned it! Mutant Chronicles is an absolute dog of a movie from start to finish - a few neat ideas are rapidly drowned out by turgid acting, ropey digital effects and a meaningless story. WHY OH WHY if someone's going to make a sci-fi movie based on a tabletop game have they not selected Warhammer 40k!!!! I'm a Thomas Jane fan but I'd rather have watched legions of faceless Spacemarines attack an Orc Horde than a couple of moaning b-list actors gurn their way through minute after painful minute of crass dialogue and forced repartee.
mrbobbyboy on Jan 23, 2009
Fair enough. Just keep your expectations low, it will help. The steampunk design and art are great in this movie, the atmosphere is nice, everything else is questionable.
Nekrosoma (The Pirate) on Jan 23, 2009
Alex, I sincerely hope you're not pointing a finger at me saying I'm bootlegging it. I work in the industry and got to see the film at a test screening. The talking points afterwards revealed that pretty much the entire audience was disappointed and many people just left.
Kent on Jan 23, 2009
well the dvd premiere in germany was on october 27th and i saw that movie back in december. to be honest it could have been worse. the idea itself is interesting, but the movie lacks so many things that all sums up to one conclusion: dvd is the best thing it could hope for and thats what it got, atleast for germany.

Looks better and better each clip I see. Good thing I will have free passes 🙂

Damn i saw this about a year ago. WHY NOW??? It's not that bad. A step up from 'A sci-fi original'
REAL6 on Jan 23, 2009
Pirating what ? Whis has been released ages ago in other regions. You can even order the DvD. Bt the way do not raise your expectations. Its a huge dump of a flick.
Shige on Jan 23, 2009
WOW! That was awesome! Looks very interesting! Good cast.

Sorry to have a pop at you Alex, but you have to realise the world doesn't start and end with the USA, and that this site is well respected enough to be visited by movie fans from around the globe (which you should be happy about!), and some countries do in fact get movies BEFORE the USA. Having a pop at us for watching it 'pirated on our pcs' is just ignorant, as the film has clearly and officially been released in many places (imbd dates below); Russia 7 August 2008 Brazil 13 August 2008 Greece 21 August 2008 Philippines 1 October 2008 UK 10 October 2008 Canada 22 October 2008 Germany 27 October 2008 Turkey 2 January 2009 South Korea 8 January 2009 I respect your view that you want to watch it in cinemas and not pirated, as piracy is rife, but please get a grip and realise that people in other countries sometimes officially get things first! I know your tired from Sundance, but still had to make my point. And, yes, i saw it in the cinema over in the UK and the film is pretty rubbish, a major disapointment 🙁
chris on Jan 23, 2009
So far, the cast is the only thing tying me to maybe seeing it. The slew of crap reviews on this article don't have me too excited, however. I can't tell from the trailer, but I REALLY hope that the mutant offensive aren't just mirrors of our military. I'm so sick of games and movies where the aliens run their armed forces exactly as we do (yes, I'm looking at you Halo, Gears of War, Resistance and so much more.)
IK! on Jan 23, 2009
Alex, what do you think this says about the distributors? Don't you think they should get their act together and release films in decent timeframes, thus preventing all this piracy malarky.
dom on Jan 23, 2009
Goddamn, looks like Malkovich needed to make a yacht payment, cause he seems to be phoning it in on this one.
StabmasterArson on Jan 23, 2009
I downloaded this movie months ago. I wouldn't go as far as saying "stink fest" but this movie is not worth the price of admission. I can't believe Jane turned down Punisher 2 but did this garbage.
Malcolm Edgecombe on Jan 23, 2009
I am sure all of you actually bought the DVDs in your respective countries, right? Whatever. You know you pirated it. Quit acting so pious. This blog is written in and for the US. If you dont like it, read a blog in Turkey or wherever. Or do they even have blogs where you people are from?

Damn, I saw "Chronicles" about a year ago, Alex!!! Chronicles of Narnia, that is... Thank you. I'm here all week. Try the veal.

Well put #17! #22, you're a sad person, we don't need your trolling with racist undertones. Popular websites have visitors from around the globe. I can guaranty you that any web admin would enjoy the extra clicks generated from people outside of USA.

#23 gave me much need lulz Thank you. and as for #22. I agree full hearted. I want pop movie news i come here. I want superhero movie news i go superherohype. If i want news about foreign or under the radar movies i go to twitch. The great part about the internet is that it is Huge. Lots of stuff to find. And as for pirating. Come on guys, this movie has been getting bad reviews from day one from everyone, and you are saying you coughed up the dough to see it in theaters. Please. Keep up the good work alex.

Alex with regards to comment No. 22. Please delete/ ban any further comments from this sad excuse for a human. I've been an avid reader/follower of this website here in Ireland for the past few years now. But those kind of remarks have left a bad taste in the mouth. I'll be going elsewhere for my movie news if these are the kind of people that are allowed on here.

#22 - Why don't you shut the hell up. Tripe like that is what makes the rest of us here in the US feel like we always have to apologize for the 25-30% of the country that's made up of slack-jawed xenophobic fools. The truth is that a lot of films like this, that don't get a lot of interest in the US when they are produced, open overseas and then open in the US later on. Hell, people here in the US made "Disaster Movie" a Top 10 opener. So why is it hard to believe that some people in the UK went to see this movie in a theater?
Dave on Jan 23, 2009
I saw MC at Comicon last year and I was really really fucking happy with it. its got a great sci-fi steam punk world, the cast is a strength (God I love Devon Aioki)...more than anything the ction of the film was unique and engaging - it might be destined to cult status because its not polished like some 100 million dollar studio flick - - but thats of the apeal, an authentic indie, homegrown type action flick that certainly holds its own visually - - - it was fun taking a ride in the world of Simon Hunter's Mutant Chronicles
sam on Jan 23, 2009
The trailer actually looks pretty good. Though saw it like year ago and the movie in my opinion was rubbish. Some decent actors in it but the acting was bad and the effects looked also bad. I guess if you are hardcore sci-fi fan you might find something good out of this film.
masti on Jan 23, 2009
I saw this movie a while ago and it was more horrible than you can imagine. Which is incredibly unfortunate as I have a huge soft spot for Thomas Jane.
YK on Jan 23, 2009
Watched it awhile ago. Not a very good movie. Think Sci Fi channel movie expect just a tad better, but only a tad. I hate seeing Jane going from big screeen actor to this dtv style action star.
jesse on Jan 23, 2009
Looks like a direct to video epic. Sky Captain meets Gears of War.
Fuelbot on Jan 23, 2009
Why would you hope that the film is one that "not many people know about?" Wishing for a film to be a cult hit instead of a success is pretty stupid.

asspirate on Jan 23, 2009
It's almost sad that the writers of this place are so uninformed and lack an education of places outside the US. With all this crap Sundance hype I'm a quite shocked really. The place of foreign and cheap films (mind you this is sarcasm 101 for the most part) that they don't realize that there are countries outside the US and that actors actually have movies out there that are not even on DVD in the US. Same goes for commercials, shows, interviews, and numerous other stuff. First showing might need to revise who they hire.

Richard on Jan 24, 2009
Movie was absolutley horrible. SX team should be ashamed and the CGI Blood was friggin laughable. I believe the SCiFI channel will be showing it and it shouldn't even waste its time in the theaters. I have to admit, they get 1 point for being different but the movie was flat out bad!!!!

I am really, really bored with all these repetitive dark, brooding, depressing, claustrophobic zombie-mutant-clone-bigbrotheresque parallel universes. Hopefully one day someone talented will wake up and say: "Hey, let's depict a FUN, colorful and cool future" - and will make big bucks out of it. And will obviously originate a gazillion copycat products. Bah.

DAMMITT RED!!!!!Leave us IRISH alone! Remember...It's OUR Island! Don't worry Jay, there are only a few numb-skulls around here....they usually get bored when you call them out. Lots of verbal attacks. But no substance. Plus no back up. And Red is a warped and twisted Rogen and the unspeakable Horror of an Actor Nick Cage fan. So he really is un-sure of himself in a biblical sense in regards to the range and the "can't act his way out of a paperbag" syndrome. Forgive the little Laddy Buck if you will. Say Hello to Wicklow and County Cork!! Cheers Mate!

Just clicked on to review and now I see Red Buttons attacking Ireland? Christ sakes, what did they do to him? I know his taste in Actors is suspect if not insane , but attack the Irish? #26, God Bless you and the Emerald Isle.

God this movie looks bad. No thanks. I totally see the Gears and Captain thing. And who is this Red guy\girl? What does he/she have against Ireland? Xenophobic fools. I like that! And I like St. Patrick Mr/Ms. Buttons!
peanutz2u on Jan 25, 2009
don't u think 22 was just using Turkey as an example from # 17's post? What if 17 said Korea? Or Ireland like this Red Buttons Dude. I am more offended by Red Buttons verbal ass whipping on Celtic folk. Sad Red Button person. The irish are most happy people, just don't challenge 'em to a fight. Maybe Red Buttons got his block knocked off by an Irish Bucky.

The Irish thing made me think of that friends episode where the Irish run the post office. Thank god here in Canada we don't have mail. Every message is personally delivered by Mr. Costner

Hmmmm. Why does R. Buttons always end up ticking people off. Why does he hate Irishmen? My GGFather was from Ireland and my GGGma from Italy. Does that mean he hates me too? Gosh, what did I do to him? Is it because he is from Canada? On the border or farther up North? Being close to Buffalo, I run into this alot. But nobody hates me like Red B. does. Anyways, MC looks kinda bad.

curiouscaseofredbutton on Jan 26, 2009
Again I stand by my first statement of R.Button getting his clock cleaned by an Irishman. But Quebec? Geez, c'mon. I bet his favorite on Friends was Ross. Freaking French!!!

LOL. My favorite was Ross. IMO
Rediculas Buttons on Jan 26, 2009
The Only statement i retract is that of Mr. Costner transporting messages across Canada. We all know he hasn't done that since 1997. I only attacked the show friends (save david of course). As for attacking the irish. My Comment was meant to insult victims of internet scams, not ireland. Although i can see how it could be misunderstood. As we all know, we are humans or dancers. Both of which can make mistakes. lol
Rediculas Buttons on Jan 26, 2009
I see you were asked for a retraction. Quoting the Killers will not save you. You have just made the list. The entire Island now has your number in Quebec. And Jay is our leader. OK, now can we talk about movies? This Buttons is an obvious French Ass, who will not say he is sorry for insulting an Irishman. Take him for what he is. A simple weaksuck and French. If he was an American, he would have voted for Torture and McCain. Now, I think Mutants looks KICK ASS!
