Must Watch: Creepy Trailer for Paranormal Activity Debuts!

Paramount has just debuted the official trailer for Oren Peli's Paranormal Activity today, an indie film that showed at Slamdance a few years ago but has been lying dormant till now. It's a creepy thriller being called Blair Witch for this generation about a couple being haunted by a demon. I had the chance to see this at Telluride and it really is scary as hell, but also a great film. If you want to stay completely fresh going into this (which I suggest), then don't watch this trailer, but if you need to be convinced then go ahead. I'm not fond of their choice to use the camera footage of the test screening audience, but that's just me. Watch it!

Paranormal Activity is both written and directed by Israeli-US filmmaker Oren Peli and it is his feature directorial debut. This first premiered at Slamdance back in early 2008 where it was eventually bought by DreamWorks / Paramount. The film was shot for $11,000 in Oren's own home in San Diego. After keeping this quiet for years, Paramount is now ready to unleash Paranormal Activity into limited theaters starting on September 25th. @ 4, please be a troll. Just because it has the FP camera view doesn't mean it's copying off rec. If we go by your basis, rec copied off of the Blair witch.

What is up with showing the audience reaction to a screening in the trailer? Lame.

I want to see it... why do they not play the good horror movies in the theater... and when did NYC not get a movie? Jeez. We get everything.

I don't mind seeing the audience at all. In fact, I don't think they showed 1:1 reactions to the parts of the movie shown in the trailer. So I assume there will be a lot more creepy, freaky stuff going on, and seeing those reactions only makes me wanna see the movie all the more.

Is this movie suppose to be real like the Blair Witch? If it is....WOW. If it is that is the fakest crap I have ever seen. oh and #9 are u being serious?

The Blair Witch for this generation? I thought we were still in the same generation that The Blair Witch Project came from.

@#4 that's just the style, it's not a rip off. Thankfully, this movie doesn't look like it will be relying on blood and zombies to be scary. This looks amazing! Looks like this director knows that being scary doesn't have to involve people being chased, stabbed and mutilated.

This movie doesn't look frightening at all, I am a personal fan of the found footage style of shooting, but this just looks slightly hollywoodized, probably a good film, bad trailer. Wan't to be scared? Go watch Poughkeepsie Tapes.

I have been searching two years now for this thing to show up unannounced at my video store, assuming I would have to seek it out since it virtually disappeared after all the festival buzz. And now they're giving it a wide release?? What the hell?? Make up your minds.

seriously, what is going on with poughkeepsie? i've been waiting like a madman for that! as for this movie- love love love a no name cast in horror movies, and doubly so love low budget horror. there is always a better way to get a scare or an unsettling without blood and guts and giant flying demons (although, i dig those, too). soooo glad this is coming to austin! look forward to getting my pants scared off for the first time in a long time.

Yeah, I haven't seen this, but I know a guy who saw it a while back who basically said the same things everyone else here is saying. At the time I wasn't sure if he was just exaggerating or what. The trailer kinda sells more me now that I've seen it. I don't normally watch horror flicks because of shit like My Bloody Valentine and slasher flicks and torture porn. It seems like that's all anyone makes now. That shit isn't really scary to me, and to anyone else, really. You go to watch them in a theater and people are just laughing the whole time. Obviously it's not scary, right? I rented My Bloody Valentine to check out the 3D effects on my HD set, and I had to stop watching it about 15 or 20 minutes in because it was so un-scary and predictable that all I had to keep me entertained were the likeable characters and the deep, thought-provoking plot. So yeah, that didn't last long. I might go see this, but I'm almost afraid to because it's been so god damn long since I've seen something really scary that I dunno if I can even handle something that actually succeeds at being so.

Agreed, I am currently reading a friend of mine's work based on found footage, and we are low budget indy filmmakers. I respect the hell out of that guy for doing it with 11,000, borderline jealous. And yes, if you haven't already, check out poughkeepsie, it will be talked about when it gets a wide theatrical.

Now we are talking. I like these type of films that have more of a realisitic almost documentary style. Hopefully it isnt plagued with the overdone shakey cam.

Blair Witch or this generation? That movie wasn't even a decade ago? Using that really makes me wait for this. Scary...while at least it's in the horror, hardly makes it scary. Looks more jumpy but not worth theater prices, especially based on that trailer. o0o0o0o0o0 a sheet moved.

OK.. not cool... really looks interesting, but DAMN, don;t like it when they make it TOO documentary style... FREAKS ME THE HELL OUT... I actually liked the introduction of the audience to the trailer to give the movie even more of the documentary feel. ... yes, I jumped twice during the trailer... GRRR.. DAMN IT

More of this First person POV camera crap? Look, it worked for Blair Witch, but everything else? Including that monstrosity called Cloverfield (terribly overrated and overhyped POS) I'm sick of it all.

Does nothing for me. How do people find this trailer scary? It really brings nothing new that we haven't already seen before lol. The entire movie might be scary as hell but I am going to need a lot more than this non scary trailer to pull me in. IMO "The Fourth Kind" looks better than this.

Paranormal activity was crap, so was The Blair Witch Project! Want to see the TV show that both these 'movies' ripped off? It's a British show called 'Ghostwatch' and you can see it on stagevu.
