MOVIE TRAILERS
Must Watch: First Full Trailer for Bruce Willis' Surrogates
by Alex Billington
May 21, 2009
Source: MySpace
Disney has debuted the first official trailer for the new Bruce Willis sci-fi thriller Surrogates. Directed by former Terminator 3 director Jonathan Mostow, the movie is about a future where humans interact using surrogate robots while staying in the comfort of their homes. It's a very action-oriented popcorn flick and, to be honest, it doesn't look that great. It may have some good looking effects, but the action looks bad, or at least the scenes I've seen that they're hiding in the trailer were bad. This may just be a well edited trailer, but in the end I still don't think it will be good. Give it a shot and let us know what you think anyway.

You can also watch the trailer for Surrogates in High Definition on MySpace
Set in a futuristic world where humans live in isolation and interact through surrogate robots, a cop is forced to leave his home for the first time in years to investigate the murders of others' surrogates.
Surrogates is directed by action filmmaker Jonathan Mostow, of Breakdown, U-571, and Terminator 3 previously. The script was written by writing duo Michael Ferris and John D. Brancato, of The Net, The Game, Terminator 3, and Catwoman previously. The film is based on Robert Venditti's graphic novel of the same name. Disney will be bringing Surrogates to theaters everywhere on September 25th this year.

it looks good, but i'm confused -- Title for this article says "MUST WATCH" but then the guy says the trailer doesn't look that good...?

YAY ROBOT MOVIES! Finally after the catastrophe that made Asimov turn over in his grave, we get a movie that might do the robot genre some good. Looks like a combination of The Matrix, and Bicentennial Man. I am also getting a Psychological Thriller kind of vibe. Also, I'm glad robots are coming back into fashion with Cylons having just made their final TV appearance, a new Terminator movie coming up, and don't forget Sleep Dealer.

i dont know how this could be considered bad? considering this has at least some smart theories on the advancement of technology leading to some physical set backs for humanity, and other stuff you actually like alex, are just robots blowing up other robots.

Wow, that's such an amazing concept, I love it. Why the hate Alex? I just don't see what was so bad about this?

alex, why do you shoot everything down. I understand that some movies do suck, but it seems that ever movie you comment on you say "Im not impressed" or "This doesnt look that great" Why? Ca't you just go to a movie and enjoy and not have to critic it?

I dont know, the concept is cool and the trailer doesnt make it look that bad but I have a bad feeling that it will be a bad film...upsetting.

@5 it's a must watch because it's a big budget action movie which brings the usual bit of hype and anticipation so people are undoubtedly looking forward to the trailer.....plus it stars Bruce Willis. Just cause Alex didn't like it doesn't mean other people won't like it either.

Doesn't look too bad at all. I have to give them credit at least for making a film that isn't a carbon copy of all the other sci-fi films out there, though the argument could be made that this would basically be some kind of mix between The Matrix and I Robot... But in reverse, sort of. Instead of I Robot's single robot, or the Matrix's single super-human character, this seems to have one guy who's NOT a robot... might make for some tense situations at least.

I dunno, I'm with Alex. This didn't really impress me. I can't even point out why exactly... maybe because I feel like they've shown me too much in the trailer? Or maybe I'm just not enough of a robot enthusiast. It will find an audience though, that's for sure.

The original idea (the one the graphic novel is based on) must be Isaac Asimov's work. Great books, you all should read them. I don't know why is all the "the action sequences are bad" "this doesn't look good" thing. I just saw the trailer and it actually looks pretty good! Besides, who can pull off the character of the beaten-underdog-cop as good ol' Bruce Willis?? Come on!

Alex, maybe it's the memory of Terminator 3 that had you not thinking that this would be not so good. But I actually think this looks interesting. It puts a spin on the common Robot story. Who would have thought that I'd be watching a trailer for a film that was not a reboot or a remake.

@27 Pink Sushi: Effects you see in trailers are rarely ever finished effects. They're just quick stand-ins that are somewhat polished up, but not final or anything. The Hulk movie a while back is a good example. They had clips of the Hulk fighting that other big dude, and in the film version there were a lot more details and the shaders, materials, lighting, etc had all been polished up and more little doodads were added. They basically plan the trailer early on and then specifically shoot those scenes first with the intetion that they will be able to work on the film for a while while those scenes are getting the most work due to their being needed for the trailer. They cut it together when the effects are at a passable state and then continue to polish them as they go. It's one of the things I'm really hoping they improve in the GI Joe film vs it's trailer. The other thing I hope they improve is the acting and plot (apparent plot....), as the trailers also make those look like ass as well. Actually, yeah... GI Joe is gonna be a fucking awful movie.

Very cool! Absolutely NOTHING wrong with that trailer. Looks like a fun time and great to see Mr Willis back in action. He will be kickin some ass as usual. That write up is ridiculous! You said it's must watch and then trash it. You do that a lot. WTF?? Oh and on a side note which I'm pissed at FS about. I submitted this to you 3 times our your contact us form and for whatever reason it was completely ignored. WTF up with that!? Now this looks like a great, fun flick. Post this please n thanks. http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/news/give-em-hell-malone-trailer.php What's the point of running a movie site if you don't post all things movies? You should be posting anything and everything movies whether it be an Oscar contender or a silly B flick.

I can't believe that this is a Disney movie, is wide out if their standards. But we all know that a good action-fiction movie brings a lot of money, maybe they are running out of ideas for animation or their Hanah Montana, Wicked Mountain craps does not work good at the box office. Maybe..they are exploring new options, like action. Why not?...maybe in a future we can see more action flicks from them. Greetings from Mexico!!
Fercho on May 22, 2009

The trailer looks pretty sweet. Definitely concerned with this having the director of T3 and writer of Catwoman attached. The trailer may be the best thing about the movie, I guess we'll see. The concept of the story is very interesting though. Life without consequence. Surrogates make you a superhero and you can eat whatever you want and not get fat I guess, do robots eat I wonder, have sex and not worry. It's what many many people would want life to be. I'm surprised that there doesn't seem to be any religious angle to this. Maybe that just isn't in this story but it would seem in a world like this that religious people would be up in arms over this kind of lifestyle. Anyway though dystopian future, I'm there.

It looks good but if Disney is putting this out.......I don't know. judging from the fact that it's against robots I don't think that there will be any blood but I'm also on the fence as far as the action in this flick I have to know what rating this is going to get before I make an opinion.

"The action looks bad"? Why, Alex? Because unlike most action movies made in the last ten years we can actually see what the hell is going on?! Seems blissfully free of extreme-closeup-shaky-cam, which is a big plus in my book. Yes, the writers have their names on a few stinkers, but why not be more positive; remember (as stated in the news item) that they also wrote the excellent little thriller The Game for David Fincher? This might turn out to be one of their good ones. (Fingers crossed.) And folks, don't hold T3 against Mostow forever - he also made Breakdown, which is a brilliant edge of the seat Duel-style flick. Maybe one day he'll live up to the promise he showed with that movie.

Man, this looks NOTHING LIKE iRobot!!! the concepts remind me of Masamune Shirows writings on remotes and built in wireless webs..(ghost in the shell comics get into it in greater depth) looks like a fun thriller with a bit of Isaac Asimov (most futurism gives some credit to Isaac Asimov's work, but much has been expanded since and deserves further exploitation in sci fi --thats my job.)
