Dark Country

The first trailer for Thomas Jane's directorial debut Dark Country has finally arrived online courtesy of ShockTillYouDrop. Dark Country stars Thomas Jane, Ron Perlman, and Lauren German. It's about two newlyweds who run into some troubles while out driving in the desert. Jane has promised that it'll "remain true to the stylistic choices of film noir, while delivering an immersive reality and visceral experience that only the next generation of 3D cinematography could provide." Unfortunately, it's not going to be in 3D, as Sony is putting it out straight-to-DVD, but it still looks pretty good. Anyway, check out the trailer below.

Watch the first trailer for Thomas Jane's Dark Country from YouTube:

A couple (Thomas Jane and Lauren German) en route from Las Vegas are forced to deal with a body out in the desert making their honeymoon one hellish ride. Are you interested in seeing this movie at all?

Dark Country is the directorial debut of actor Thomas Jane, who previously directed a short titled Jonni Nitro in 2000. The screenplay was written by Tab Murphy, of films like The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Tarzan previously (yea, we're confused, too). Sony Pictures is finally bringing Dark Country straight to DVD starting on October 6th, however it could end up showing at some film festivals before then as well.

It looks aight and I do really dig the dark stylized look of it because it's actually something new, but you can deffentially tell it's incredibly LOW budget. That is really distracting for me especially during some of the car CGI sequences toward the end of the trailer, but hell I'll still check it out.

Every director has to start somewhere, I'll add it to my DVD-grocerylist 🙂

Looks boring.

KenDoll on Jul 27, 2009

Wow! It looks like Thomas Jane went to the David Lynch school of film making!

Lordofcinema on Jul 27, 2009

It looks more like he studied w/ Robert Rodriguez - which is not a bad thing for a first time filmmaker to look like! I think it looks remarkably interesting. I had no idea he was into filmmaking.

Django on Jul 27, 2009

I'll check it out mainly because its his first attempt, and it could be a good neo-noir attempt.

xerxex on Jul 27, 2009

agreed with #7 on the Rodriguez tip. The special effects were def reminiscent of Sin City. That Home made feeling. I like Jane and film noir so this is going on the netflix.

Has Ron Perlman become a genre-actor?

LW on Jul 27, 2009

z-grade dreck.

1001 on Jul 27, 2009

I doubt I'll check it out, didn't seem very interesting to me. If I randomly happen upon it on TV? Perhaps....

Brian Barajas on Jul 27, 2009

you feel that? its like they put horror/thriller clitches in a blender, took a dump in it and gave it to chimps to chuck around as they wrote the script

JT on Jul 27, 2009

Mo, this is "Hitcher 2:Crappy Sequel to a decent movie.

Big Red Moose on Jul 27, 2009

Looks like it's trying to be part Sin City and Breakdown. But I wouldn't mind seeing Thomas Jane's directorial ability. He has a Christopher Lambert thing going for him.

gplongwood on Jul 27, 2009

ill see anything with Thomas Jane in it and it being his directorial debut ill see it even more.

DoomCanoe on Jul 27, 2009

CHEESY!!! But looks good. That scene with her arm out the window reminds me of when the Joker escape the jail and was driving the police car. But yeah, so Rodriguez. I'll watch it.

#2: "I do really dig the dark stylized look of it because it's actually something new..." Say Wha....? A dark film is something new? I'm.......speechless. I'm right there with #16. Totally cliched dreck. And Perlman, whom I love, looks like a tool as a policeman.

#22. You are today's winner. The whole time I was asking myself where is Jennifer Love Hewitt?

jake on Jul 28, 2009

Reminds me of Blood Simple. I'll rent it or something. We need more noir films. Also, I'm with #21 - time for Give 'Em Hell Malone to poke its head out from the shadows.

Delvis on Jul 28, 2009

Ditto, ditto, ditto to #21 and #25.

#7 what a stupid comment, "I had no idea he was into filmmaking." so being an actor doesnt count! lol he's not making a film then when acting. looks ok, guess i'll til its on channel 5 over here in blighty.

kingoflondon on Jul 28, 2009

Yes, 21 has the right idea. Although this doesn't look ok, it looks pretty bad.

Syphous on Jul 28, 2009

Give this movie a chance. It may be good. 😉

pammy on Jul 29, 2009
