Must Watch: Joe Johnston's The Wolfman Official Trailer!
Yet another great trailer has debuted this morning, this time for The Wolfman starring Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, and Hugo Weaving. Yesterday we debuted a new batch of photos that just looked awesome and this trailer definitely lives up to those. As I said then as well, I'm not normally a big werewolf guy, but I am frickin' excited for this. It really looks like Joe Johnston was the perfect guy to bring some style and excitement and energy to this remake. This really just looks exceptional - dark and moody and violent and everything. Maybe if that Avatar trailer wasn't your thing, this one will be. Watch this!

Lawrence Talbot, a haunted nobleman, is lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Upon his return and after being reunited with his estranged father, Talbot is bitten and cursed by a werewolf.
The Wolfman is directed by visual effects Oscar winner Joe Johnston, of Honey I Shrunk the Kids, The Rocketeer, Jumanji, October Sky, Jurassic Park III, and Hidalgo previously. The screenplay was co-written by Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en, 8MM, Sleepy Hollow) and David Self (The Haunting, Thirteen Days, Road to Perdition). Universal is bringing The Wolfman to theaters on February 12th, 2010 early next year.
Can't wait to see this one!

CG = No go. Werewolf transformations CANNOT be done well in CG. Pass on this.

This movie has a fantastic cast. Acting should be solid, at least.

thejugfather on Aug 20, 2009
I agree that the CG effects are a little odd, but otherwise, the look of the film is fantastic. I like the greys and blacks.
James on Aug 20, 2009
If Sir Anthony is in the remake of Frankenstein or Creature From The Black Lagoon he will have officially been in the remakes of the four most influential monster films of the 20th Century...Go Anthony!!!!
JEFFREY on Aug 20, 2009
Looks amazing. Has a Sleepy Hollow kinda feel actually...
Vold on Aug 20, 2009
Lol @ everyone suddenly becoming professional CGI critics. Sit the fuck down.
Kubrickan on Aug 20, 2009
This looks awesome. I can see why it's been pushed back so many times. Was still hoping for a thanksgiving release date like planned, but oh well I guess I'll to wait till February. Del Toro looks good in this and the supporting cast looks strong.

Good job # 14. This will be awesome!

This is much better trailer than Avatar.
dexter on Aug 20, 2009
Yeah, I'm on board!!! This looks pretty damn good!!
Marc on Aug 20, 2009
Holy f*ck! @14 - agreed. Tired of CGI bores not getting the point. Some of the CG in Benjamin Button was very noticeable (especially at sea), but it's painterly look suited the film and was a nice artistic flourish. Sort of getting the same vibe here. This is a must see.
Sleepykid on Aug 20, 2009
Good-ass fuckin' cast. Hopkins bringin' the thunder.

Damn two great trailers of two fucking great movies in one day. I'm sold for thisone
box3r on Aug 20, 2009
This beats the shit out of the AVATAR trailer. AVATAR too overhyped. Only an epic story can carry that movie now. Trailer Grade: The Wolf Man: Solid A AVATAR: C
EPIC FAIL? on Aug 20, 2009
This looks better than I thought it would. For some reason, I was expecting this to be more like 'Van Helsing' or 'The Underworld' movies or 'League of Extraordinary Gentleman'. This trailer looks like they put considerably more effort into creating a noirish atmosphere. Here's hoping it ends up being a good film, in the final edit.
Dave Lister, JMC on Aug 20, 2009
This makes me want to re-watch An American Werewolf In London.
Scagginsvolley on Aug 20, 2009
This makes me confident that Captain America is in good hands.
Matt on Aug 20, 2009
I think it's funny how 99.99% of trailers for movies with some CGI always has someone saying the CGI is ok or poor or something. I haven't yet seen one where they just enjoy it and let it be.
Alfredo on Aug 20, 2009
acting looks horrible
gary m on Aug 20, 2009
Trey on Aug 20, 2009
I hate to admit this, but eventhough this trailer is much better I still feel bad for the disaster with Avatar. Now you see what too much hype can do to a movie, but I still wan't to see it.
wrongturn687 on Aug 20, 2009
Wow, this looks sweet. Pretty sick camera moves in some of the clips! Very stylish.
Korm on Aug 20, 2009
Have to admit, I wasn't expecting anything from this film, but this trailer looked awesome! Definitely going to see this!
D6 on Aug 20, 2009
Gee willikers is this going to be swell.
Mbombo on Aug 20, 2009
Wasnt this movie delayed so they could get Del Toro to move in all four legs?
bltzie on Aug 20, 2009
Looks like it will maintain a bit of a psychological element through the entire film. Movies about tolerance always seem to do well.
Big Red Moose on Aug 20, 2009
Looks awesome! There can never be too many monster or zombie movies. I always liked Benicio Del Toro, he's a great actor. And paired up with Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving, what could possibly go wrong? I also don't see what's wrong with the CGI, I thought it looked great. #35 Wtf, the acting looks horrible? You must be joking. Gotta admit, the "I will kill all of you!" part made me think of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, seeing how it was the exact same line. 😉 Only this movie looks a LOT better. Can't wait.
SuicidalOptimist on Aug 20, 2009

LW on Aug 20, 2009
I'm diggin the old school take with actual makeup instead of CG
Jaf on Aug 20, 2009
@45 This isn't the first time different trailers use the same music. I know lord of the rings and sunshine had it to, and after that another movie had it to but can't remember whichone anymore. I guess they aren't that ordinary anymore in holywood to give it their own stamp. But sometimes the music does make it fit.

DoomCanoe on Aug 20, 2009
As a fan of the original "Wolf Man" movie from the 1940s, this looks like it will do that movie jusitce. I love the look of the movie, the wolf transformation footage, the howl, everything.
Dan Geer on Aug 20, 2009
@41 "Gotta admit, the "I will kill all of you!" part made me think of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, seeing how it was the exact same line. Only this movie looks a LOT better. Can't wait." Underworld used it more as a threat. I think here it was more used as a warning for everyone to get away from him.
jasonmd2020 on Aug 20, 2009
Yeah this looks OUTSTANDING!!!!!! I mean think about it..what was the last truly GREAT werewolf movie that we actually had?( If anyone says Cursed or Blood & Chocolate I will kick you in the nuts!!!!!!) I am sorry Kate Beckinsale fans but the UnderWorlds movie don't even count and even if they did count they would still not be listed as great! This is really exciting and I hope the movie is as nightmarish, gory, noirish and psychological as the trailer hints. With the Book of Eli and now this...the dead zone months of January-March have really become a hot time of the year for movies!!!! Bout Time
Jay on Aug 20, 2009
Avatar vs this? As big a fan of Cameron I am, I'd have to say this trailer impressed me more. Make up effects > CG any day of the week.
Movie Fan on Aug 20, 2009
Much more impressed with this than with the Avatar preview. It's the difference between watching a movie and a video game...I'll take the movie.

Roberto Dinamite on Aug 20, 2009
@14 - Do you even know what criticism means? No one is saying they're an expert. But we've all seen many different types of CGI over the years in movies, and so we can offer our opinions/criticisms on what we see.
snickers on Aug 20, 2009
I'm drooling thats all i have to say!!!!
alan on Aug 20, 2009
Looks better than the Avatar trailer. Everything is pretty awesome. And I hope zombies( I don't like zombies, they're not scary at all ) are excluded and that thing from 2:02 it's just the transformation process. "OK" comments: 21, 25, 28, 50, 56, 58. The words I wanted to use!

Anyone think the CGI looks fake? READ #14!!!!!!!! I love how the same little terds that love the Matrix now look at real photos of real actors and start breaking down how fake it looks!!!!!! hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahah..cough cough..hahahahahahahahaha oh man...you guys are a constant form of humor!!! anyone seen "American Werewolf in london"? you're gonna tell me those prosthetic effects were better? oh...laugh riot you are!!! EVERYONE is entitled to an opinion, but it should be educated and not just based on your knowledge of transformers and the last two terminators! sheesh... this looks good, nice period piece..
Lobot on Aug 21, 2009
looks like fun... should be worth the ticket
Dusty on Aug 21, 2009
this is going to be an awesome one because of one man. That MoFo Hugo Weaving!!!!!! That man has yet to be in a movie that I didn't like.
TheSaint on Aug 21, 2009
"I will kill all of you!" I peed my pants a little. One more thing, opinions are like assholes. Everyone's got one and in this case they pretty much all stink. CGI is such a difficult field. As a graphic designer I've experienced first hand how difficult that kind of work is, and I can't imagine all of the work and time that goes into some of those scenes. I mean, an animated short can take as much as a half year and a full team of people working on to finish (one such example being 'Big Buck Bunny' which you can find on youtube and I highly recommend you watch) and realism is much more difficult. While I respect everyone's opinions and certainly their right to have them, don't pass around statements like, 'I could do better' or 'this looks like shit'. You have no idea what you're talking about and it's extremely disrespectful (not constructive criticism as you may have fooled yourself into thinking) to the artists that have poured their blood, sweat, and tears into the project. Sorry for the rant. Thanks.
Dan on Aug 21, 2009
#65 - I couldn't tell if that was sarcasm or not...but in regards to An American Werewolf in London...ARE YOU SERIOUS??????? That film is THE gold standard of transformation special effects. It looked more real than any CGI we have ever seen in any of these types of movies....Wait a minute...do you work for ILM?!
Jay on Aug 21, 2009
I like the look of this, looks great, even with the wrinkly actors.
Crapola on Aug 21, 2009
nice anthony hopkins/malcolm mcdowell cgi hybrid
MK-Ultra on Aug 21, 2009
#69 I was thinking the same. That transformation scene still creeps me out, because it looks so fucking real and...well, kinda gross (bones snapping in position and stuff). >.< #53 Yeah, I can't really tell from the trailer in what context he is using that line. Could be more like a warning, sure. Doesn't really matter to me, tho. This movie looks awesome, and I am sure I will have a blast. =)
SuicidalOptimist on Aug 21, 2009
#71, I was thinking the same thing! This movie WILL be great, DEFINITELY more enjoyable than AVATAR just based on how intense and gritty the whole thing looks. If there is ever an award for "Most downright awesome period piece", this movie will undoubtedly win. I say we have a right to expect nothing less!
Londoner on Aug 21, 2009
