Must Watch: New Trailer for Rob Marshall's Sexy Musical Nine
by Ethan Anderton

As a huge fan of Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini, it's great to see such a vibrant trailer for Rob Marshall's Nine, a musical based on the original musical of the same name, which was derived from an Italian play by Mario Fratti which itself was inspired by Federico Fellini's autobiographical film 8½. Much like Marshall's Chicago, this new trailer is chock full of singing, dancing and scantily clad women including the prominently featured Kate Hudson, and the laughable appearance of Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson as Fellini's iconic slutty, crazy, dancing character Saraghina. Now all that remains to be seen is if Daniel Day-Lewis really can sing.

Famous Italian director Guido Contini struggles to find harmony in his professional and personal lives, as he engages in dramatic relationships with his wife, his mistress, his muse, his agent, and even his mother.
Nine is directed by Rob Marshall, of the Oscar winning musical Chicago previously as well as Memoirs of a Geisha most recently. The screenplay was adapted by the late great Anthony Minghella and Michael Tolkin, of The Rapture, Deep Impact, and Changing Lanes. The film is based on Federico Fellini's masterpiece 8½. The Weinstein Company will debut Nine in theaters everywhere on Christmas Day, December 25th.

Alex, excuse me if I'm mistaken but you seemed unaware that this was based off of 8 1/2 when you posted the first trailer a few months back. Infact you seemed to be awfully negative about it. That being said, can't wait.

looks like a cross between Austin Powers and those old Egoiste (or was it Eternity?) commercials. I think it looks fun.

Meh, I thought I was excited for this. Not so much anymore. I don't think it'll be terrible, but it'll be pretty forgettable.

This is why TWC sucks. This trailer totally alienated almost its entire audience besides the one that likes singing and dancing. Also this doesnt come out THANKSGIVING but DECEMBER. It says so at the end of the trailer!

This trailer was actually pretty bad, and a terrible representation of what the film is. First trailer owned though, and I have so much faith in Marshall.

Ebbie: I don't get it either. This is a frickin' musical. If people didn't know that earlier, that's their fault. Personally, I really like it. Too bad I have to wait til December to see it.

i personally had no idea what 9 was about, who's involved and was more or less completely uninformed-the trailer looks ambitious,i reckon it'll turn out to be actually quite good

14 I love how you base it off how man of these people won oscars. Keep in mind the Academy Awards is extremely political and it's more of a popularity contest than anything. Many of the actors you said did not deserve their so called "award" This trailer honestly shows nothing about the movie, that is what bugs me. It's a musical, I get that, there will be sex I get that, but what else? This is a massive dissapointment.

I will be glad that you give me more information about who are those actors and mostly actress that did not deserve their Oscars !!!?????

Don't fret, Conrad, Ebbie and I enjoyed it too. I think the problem is that this is a film designed for a different audience than the one that visits this site.

#24 sums it up pretty well for me. Watching this trailer whilst drinking my morning coffee, I was suddenly overwhelmed with the urge to smash my cup and use the shards to sever my retinas and my eardrums. Moulin Rouge? Get Stuffed. Chicago? Go fuck yourself. Nine? Get stuffed AND go fuck yourself. Of course, I'm sure we'll wind up seeing this thing come Oscar time. 10 Best Picture noms to choose from and for reasons unbeknown to me, I'm sure this will be one of them. and Jeebus wept.

#32 Are you kidding? Moulin Rouge was awesome! Chicago was alright... But i have to agree it seems a bit too "oscar-nominatable" I'd be up for this if it doesn't take itself quite so seriously... if it can actually manage to be fun.

#33 Moulin Rouge was what? If you think that, then you must have blown a nut when you saw the dance sequence at the end of Blazing Saddles

32 - To quote you, "Get stuffed and go fuck yourself." You've never seen this film before, just a terrible trailer. How can you say its undeserving of Best Picture if you haven't seen the film? Don't try to answer you can't. Id be fine if you said it LOOKED bad, but to call it shit without seeing it is naive.
