Must Watch: Second Astro Boy Teaser Trailer

Summit Entertainment has debuted the second teaser trailer for Imagi's Astro Boy animated movie on Hulu. This is a vast improvement over that original teaser, with more scenes, more footage, and less of the cheesy animation that I'm so worried about. I'm actually really digging the way this looks now and have a feeling we're all going to be in for a treat in October. I know I'm going to get torn to shreds by making this comparison, but in a very basic sense, Astro Boy seems a lot like Iron Man for the kids, with a kid who is actually a robot, not inside of a robot, first getting his bearings and everything. Anyway, check this out!
Apologies to everyone not located in the US who can't watch this trailer yet! Check back soon, as we'll scour the web looking for a non-embedded version that we can upload for your viewing pleasure. Stay tuned!
Watch the second teaser trailer for Astro Boy:
Set in futuristic Metro City, AstroBoy is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist to replace the son he has lost. Unable to fulfill the grieving father's expectations, our hero embarks on a journey in search of acceptance, experiencing betrayal and a netherworld of robot gladiators, before he returns to save Metro City and reconcile with the man who had rejected him.
Astro Boy is directed by ex-Disney animator David Bowers, of Flushed Away previously, with a screenplay written by Timothy Harris, of Brewster's Millions, Kindergarten Cop, and Space Jam previously. Imagi Animation, the studio behind TMNT last year, is developing this animated film which is based on Osamu Tezuka's manga series. Astro Boy will arrive in theaters everywhere on October 23rd this year.

That looks really cute. I like it. Your film summary sounds a lot deeper than the fluffy trailer looks. It might surprise a lot of people.

I don't think Alex even knows what "cheesy" animation means. But yeah, looks at least interesting so far.

Well you can say that it looks cheesy for sure, but to say that the animation looks cheesy would be stating that you think that the movement (or animation) is cheesy, which is just a different statement. The look could be cheesy, but people confuse what animation means from time to time. Wasn't trying to be a dick, sorry about that. And sorry about the double post, don't know how that happened.

Looks like shit - Edward Scissor Hands meets Iron Man in a cutesy, animated-for-kids flick. Stop pushing every crappy piece of animation on kids and expect them just to bite because it's animation. I think everyone knows what animation is Trystan you condescending bitch-ass. Who confuses what animation means from time to time? No real actors = animation. Even actors "drawn over" to produce some bullshit, CHEESY effects like in Sin City or Beowulf would be a form of animation. Want to debate that fuck stick? You think Ray Winstone was actually running around naked and swinging from chandeliers or was that animation. Help me. I'm so confused.

I grew up watching this anime and this movie looks great, the only thing I dont like is how hollywood had to mess up the story that GOD of Manga created. But I'm still looking fwd to this 🙂

Interesting. I never realized how similar the story of Astroboy is to the story of MegaMan.. At least from the previews.

I think this kind of remake will work better rather than the original story. It is more Americanized but, even though the original Astroboy was great for its time, it really wouldn't have worked if they stuck to the origin. Plus with this kind of story and animation, if it does well, they could easily make couple of more sequels.

I think this actually looks okay, much better than what I had hoped from the previous trailer. Cheers to Nekrosoma for the link, Hulu and Mtv players are stupid. Something more exciting that Astro boy was this trailer for First Squad also on Cinema Beacon: http://cinemabeacon.blogspot.com/2009/03/anime-update-first-squad-2009.html Probably not shiny and flat enough for most people.

@ AnimateMe Dude, if you are gonna use expletives then your point has already been made moot. Animation is the act of movement is all I'm saying. This Astro Boy movie should be called a 'cartoon' or something similar.

Thank you Nekrosoma. I am actually glad I took a look at this. It is actually impressive. Not state of the art animation that I am sure most people had been hoping for but it looks great.

I grew up watching the 1980's series and that still looks fantastic. This film looks like shit to me. With the advances in special effects (Ironman/A.I. etc.) I am sure they can make this a live action feature. The animation looks bad. I'll be sticking with Pixar's Up this year. At least they know how to do proper computer animation.
