Inception Teaser Trailer

After showing in theaters this weekend in front of Inglourious Basterds, Warner Brothers has debuted the official teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan's Inception online today. Although its not long, clocking in at just under a minute, it is still an awesome teaser, especially for a project we've known nothing about until now. This hasn't even finished shooting yet either, they're still working in Paris, which makes it even more exciting to see. Plus it's Christopher Nolan, one of my favorite directors, I'm expecting another brilliant movie. Even the bit of Hans Zimmer's score we hear in this sounds badass. Can't wait for next summer!

Nolan previously wrote the scripts for Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige, and The Dark Knight with his brother Jonathan Nolan. Awesome! Christopher Nolan rules!

Robbie on Aug 24, 2009

I love all of Christopher Nolan's films and i cant wait for this one. It looks like hes returning to the intellectual stile of Memento, Insomnia, and The Prestige. Also, by the looks of this i wont be shocked if this is the next matrix.

Movie mike on Aug 24, 2009

Tis is The Next Matrix

Movie mike on Aug 24, 2009

I dunno what to make of this trailer, but definitely looks worth watching.

Brandon on Aug 24, 2009

Lokked a bit Matrixy, but there was a lot of nice visuals in that short clip, ahm doon.

Crapola on Aug 24, 2009

Interesting. Potential.

bozoconnors on Aug 24, 2009

Wow, I just saw Paprika, and now this? Hooray! Also I think that tagline is the most confusing I've seen in a long time.

BVDR on Aug 24, 2009

Way to go 3,4, and 6. Just because it has "wire-fights" doesn't mean it will be anything like The Matrix. Saying that is like a bad omen.

BVDR on Aug 24, 2009

It sounds like The Joker theme from Dark Knight over sound effects from the Revenge Of The Fallen trailer. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is about to steal Leo DiCaprio's throne.

Fuelbot on Aug 24, 2009

I'm saying this will be as brilliant as the matrix

Movie mike on Aug 24, 2009

Looks cool, and to all of you who thinks it looks like the matrix I don't know if I agree. It looks more to me like the building or something is collapsing and they are fighting inside while it falls. Sounds crazy I know but look at thier movements.

Steven on Aug 24, 2009

It looks really good, but the one thing I didn't get, and I don't think I'm the only one wondering this - um, what is it about? The trailer does a good job showing off the cool effects but it reveals absolutely nothing plot-wise. It does look matrix-y, plus the message your mind is the scene of the crime, and obviously the freaky physics suggests they might be in a program or something like that... There's a very definitive Nolan awesome-ness to it, the music is very Dark Knight-y, and I can't wait to see it, but I wish they'd reveal a few more details about the story.

Vic on Aug 24, 2009

Minority Report meets The Cell perhaps? Liked the imagery.

Sleepykid on Aug 24, 2009

BVDR I just think the mood of the film, not so much the fights reminds me of the Matrix, I hope it isn't like the Matrix and doubt it will be, just the mood seemed a little similar, colours and lighting, even the sound a little. Just as a reference point, I suppose I could have said it looked like Dark City, but that would be too much, haha.

Crapola on Aug 24, 2009

sign me up.... sort of reminded me of darkcity

Janny on Aug 24, 2009

call me crazy but i'm sure thats leo in the grey suit fighting Joseph levitt in the hallway fight

spect8re on Aug 24, 2009

Looks B.A., we can trust Nolan to deliver!

Korm on Aug 24, 2009

those sounds every 5 seconds sound like the Teaser Trailer Sounds in Revenge of the Fallen....

zeldaprimed on Aug 24, 2009

looks freaky...cant wait...Chris Nolan is the man

Trey on Aug 24, 2009

Thats how you do a teaser, nothing more, nothing less!

TediusTed on Aug 24, 2009

The hallway cut was a bit too Neo-Smith for my liking. But overall I think this movie will be very good.

Jamdolin on Aug 24, 2009

sorry, there isn't so much to see. I trust in Nolan's potential, but i need something more than this. D.

D. on Aug 24, 2009

I think people don't understand the concept of a teaser. It's a TEASER! It's not supposed to show you anything major, it's just supposed to tantalize, and this trailer does that brilliantly.

SlashBeast on Aug 24, 2009

@23 that's why it's a 'teaser' trailer. Not supposed to show too much. It doesn't matter if people compare the fighting or visuals to Matrix, it's Nolan and will be different than the Matrix. Nolan hasn't really done a film with visuals like this. Prestiege, Insomnia, and Memento all focused more on the story than visuals. He just started to work like this with the Dark Knight and that didn't have anything that looked like this Inceltion teaser.

Branden on Aug 24, 2009

This makes me think of Dark City. Looks like an exact copy. I hope its not.

Frank Booth on Aug 24, 2009

OMG, I am so sick of these complaints of it being "Matrix-y." Just because it is sci-fi. Just because it involves elements of the mind. Just because there is a fight scene that uses wire-work DOES NOT mean this is The Matrix. I think after Memento & Prestige, Nolan has proved his creative chops in creating completely original mind-benders. I don't think he watched The Matrix and said, "yeah, I wanna do that." And again, I don't know why people are "yawning" at this teaser either. IT'S A FUCKING TEASER! They are still in the middle of filming and this plot seems to be extremely dependent on twists and elements that CANNOT be revealed, otherwise it would RUIN the movie. All I have to say is BRAVO! Christopher Nolan is the best director working right now and I cannot wait for this. Fuck Avatar! Bring on Inception.

Rabs on Aug 24, 2009

Wow, Hans Zimmer totally ripped off Brad Fiedel's score from Terminator 2. Fiedel should sue that hack. Other than that, the teaser was pretty interesting.

Wottock Hunt on Aug 24, 2009

an exact copy of Dark City? are you crazy? we don't even know what this is about, it doesn't involve a mythical city and there aren't a bunch of strangers following him around... it's about dreams, or something like that... not at all a copy of Dark City!!

johnny rico on Aug 24, 2009

Very different from what I was expecting. Good for a teaser because this tells me almost nothing, but intrigues me. Hope it turns out awesome.

Sgt. Pepper on Aug 24, 2009

#26 i agree with you

JEFFREY on Aug 24, 2009

Seriously... folks say that it looks great... hmm.. the movie .. or the couple 2 secs snapshots? ya will blast a trailer.. but praise a snapshot.... I am with D. #23... looks cool images... but need more to see something in it as a film.

Dusty on Aug 24, 2009

Looks awesome!

Cat on Aug 24, 2009

Is it just me or does the music remind you of Transfuckers 2?

Armand on Aug 24, 2009

Would have liked to have seen a clip of my girl Marion C,but maybe it's coming in the extended trailer.

JEFFREY on Aug 24, 2009

This is EXACTLY what a teaser trailer should be. Brilliant music as well.

Tom on Aug 24, 2009

you guys the music in the trailer is from The Dark Knight score its called "Always a Catch". also the "inception" title at the end is the exact same type logo as christopher nolan's production company "syncopy" #13 Vic its just a teaser so of cause you wont get what the story is about. anyway i research about whats is Inception is its bascially leo in some type of Labyrinth world how i know this is because the names of the characters been used in the movie Potential Spoiler - Ellen Page character Ariadne is a reference to the Minotaur myth (Ariadne, the daughter of Minos, fell in love with Theseus and helped him navigate the labyrinth) - Joseph Gordon Levitt character Arthur is a reference to Sir Arthur John Evans (archaeologist most famous for unearthing the palace of Knossos also known as Labyrinth) - Cillian Murphy character Fischer is a reference to Adrian Fisher (Adrian Fisher is internationally recognised as one of the world’s leading maze designers of all time and he had a maze design company called “Minotaur Designs”) you need to check these names on wikipedia or they been following the development of the movie.

darkone on Aug 24, 2009

this is great!

shirley on Aug 24, 2009

This is an excellent teaser!! Far too many times a movie is spoiled by it's trailers. A teaser trailer should get you intrigued about a film. And that's just what this one does! 'Your Mind Is The Scene Of The Crime'. That's a hint of the plot right there! I can't wait to see more!

Jaf on Aug 24, 2009

Wow, you guys are able to exact ALOT of assumptions from such a small teaser. lol.

Moe on Aug 24, 2009

He's back in his Memento roots, this looks awesome. Anything dealing with the mind set in a thriller, is good to me.

Xerxex on Aug 24, 2009

fucking amazing all i cam say

jono on Aug 24, 2009

it sucks that i didnt see this before inglorious basterds. but it looks amazing!!!!!

Urban on Aug 24, 2009

All I can say to that is WTF? Not in a good or bad way just in a WTF way, not sure I see Leo in this type of movie, supernatural that is, but it still looks very interesting but still WTF.

Richard on Aug 24, 2009

Oh my good God... looks absolutely stunning!! After all the talk about that mess Avatar over the last few days, Nolan comes along with this trailer and brightens up all our days!! Just brilliant...

Kenco on Aug 24, 2009

#37 that's tight

Branden on Aug 24, 2009

#51 Branden these names that been used in the movie gives us a hint what the movie is about we just have to wait how Nolan make it work on film

darkone on Aug 24, 2009

Awesome....I mean its Nolan so its not like im worried whether its gonna be good or not. Just a measure of the awesomeness thats all. Ummmm.....This blew away the hyped up let down that is Avatar and I didnt even know about it. God Nolan is god.

Cody on Aug 24, 2009

Music is an obvious Terminator 2 rip off. Still have no clue what this movie is about. Can't stand DiCaprio.

germs on Aug 24, 2009

#54 its not a Terminator 2 rip off lol its from the Dark Knight score modifed version of "Always a Catch"

mace on Aug 24, 2009

Me #1: What the hell was that all about? Me #2: Who cares? Let's go see it! Me #1: Ok! Me #3: Where did everyone go? Oooh, a trailer...

Mike Kingscott on Aug 24, 2009

Can't wait. I can trust Nolan to make a good film.

Unbookable on Aug 24, 2009

Memento Insomnia Batman Begins The Prestige The Dark Knight Even the worst of his films are still pretty damn good. I can't think of any other director this is ture for. Can't wait for Inception.

Mark on Aug 24, 2009

#55, You're right.

Mark on Aug 24, 2009

this looks almost like the pissing all over myself in excitement teaser traleir for the dark knight im in all the way

ken on Aug 24, 2009

#55 All that assertion would prove is that - in 54's (and 28's) opinion - part of the score for The Dark Knight is a bit of a rip-off of Terminator 2's score! 😉 There are a number of aspects of this trailer that remind me of other movies, actually. The fight in the hallway is obviously reminiscent of The Matrix (although thankfully this looks like they did it old-school with a rotating set on a gimbal rather than CGI). Also, the end logo amidst an abstract labyrinth design looks strikingly similar to same idea for a trailer/poster to a film called, well, Labyrinth! The derivative nature is nothing to worry about though - it's not your influences, it's what you do with them that counts. A great cast and and great crew should ease any concerns. I've liked all of Mr Nolan's films to date, although I'm of the opinion that he hasn't topped Memento quite yet. That's still his masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. The only dodgy thing about this is DiCaprio's wispy little beard! 😀

Mathieu on Aug 24, 2009

I like how Christopher Nolan's movies ( besides the dark knight and batman begins) are sorta based on the main characters mind you know what i mean and this looks pretty trippy

Darren on Aug 24, 2009

saw this at Inglorious Bastards. It Looks amazing!! i disagree with everyone saying its The Matrix, or Dark City. It looks completley different then both of those flicks. and after this im sure JGL will be a house hold name.

DoomCanoe on Aug 24, 2009

#61 i just saw the labyrinth trailer its bascially the same but his Inception logo at the end was ment to be like his production company logo "Syncopy" well we got to wait and see what Nolan will do with this movie i hope this movie wont be his first flop movie

mace on Aug 24, 2009

Wow, crazy ass shit.

Nikhil Hariharan on Aug 24, 2009

@ 4 Tis is The Next Matrix Movie mike on Aug 24, 2009 forgot an h there huh?

fuck on Aug 24, 2009

This trailer does absolutely nothing for me. I'm sure Nolan will rock my socks off, but give me a bit more of the premise than silly effects and zooming CGI-title filler. Also, the music isn't a rip off of anything as much as it's an ongoing trend in trailers to feature a thick, rolling bass intermittently. I saw this trailer after Avatar this weekend and the two sounded way too similar. Then I was reminded of the Terminator Salvation trailer and recently the District 9 trailer which also featured a heavy intermittent bass thump (which was the engines powering up in the movie, but still). Check it, its golden, and now you'll pick it up everywhere. . . .

Voice of Reason on Aug 24, 2009

#67 its not a trailer its a teaser

luke on Aug 24, 2009

Bizarre with a potential.

Fisherr on Aug 24, 2009

#67 Terminator Salvation trailer was Immediate Music: Clash of the Titans it does not remind me of this trailer

mace on Aug 24, 2009

looks awesome. Christopher Nolan has already proven his abilities, I'm sure this will be great. Short and sweet teaser. For me though, I might be taken out of this movie only because of my hatred for Dicaprio. He's not a bad actor at all, and there's nothing specific that makes me dislike him so much...but everytime i see him on the screen he just makes me sick for some reason...cant stand him. but hopefully all of the other elements that will make this movie kickass will distract me from the rage and sickening feeling i get when Leo is in a movie.(and Gangs of New York is one of my all time favorite films..go figure. but mostly for DDL)

kreig70 on Aug 24, 2009

the fight scene is nothing like the matrix in the matrix they simply defy gravity, and do so masterfully in here the gravity randomly shifts, and the characters have no control over their body, theyre simply falling all over the place and fighting

yes on Aug 24, 2009

#72, I'll have to disagree with you there. It might be a different concept or justification, but the general aesthetic of two people fighting in mid-air (minus swords or long hair or an historical setting), whether they are defying gravity, in control of it or battling against, instantly will put most people in mind of The Matrix, as evidenced by the majority of the replies so far. That's not a criticism, just a fact. It's the first thing that popped into my head. I think we can safely say this will be a million times better than either of the Matrix sequels, anyway.

PhoenixWright on Aug 24, 2009

#72 and 73 why compare the Inception fight to the Matrix. people fighting in mid-air or not does not mean the Matrix was the first who thought of that it was going on in years in Japanese anime.

carlos on Aug 24, 2009

Looks awesome 🙂 can't wait.

Ben on Aug 24, 2009

Looks pretty good, can't wait.

Yamika on Aug 24, 2009

looks ok i can wait

real talk on Aug 24, 2009

Directional gravity shifting looks like a gimmic to me. Hopefully it's a plot element, until which case I'll wait to pass judgement.

Zac on Aug 24, 2009

#74 My point was, that is what most people's initial reaction will be. The general film-going audience is far more familiar with The Matrix than they are with Asian cinema, animated or otherwise.

PhoenixWright on Aug 24, 2009

guys the scene where they are floating in mid air and fighting, has something to do with the mind, it's a mind thriller, so that's why it's there.

Xerxex on Aug 24, 2009

Wow. This looks just awesome. In my all-time-movie-top-20, The Dark Knight, Memento and The Prestige have very high places, so, i'm pretty much sold knowing this is another Nolan film. Besides, did you check some of the actors involved?? Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine, Cillian Murphy... great cast.

leiner on Aug 24, 2009

I'm sold! And NOOOOOOOOO...this ain't no Matrixy flick with Dark Knighty music...We know nothing of the film and this is only a teaser. Think back when the Matrix teaser trailer came out on ET in never said anything about the story...only in the summer we saw what the story was... So please stop voicing ideas upon a film you know nothing about and wait a full trailer or interviews from the cast or better yet, wait for Nolan to actually talk about the film!!!!!!!

Lazarus from Sparta!!!! on Aug 24, 2009

I just crapped my pants a little bit because that looked so good!

????? on Aug 24, 2009

Nolan did it again. Getting everyone hearts pump for his film. He has gain trust from all his fans/audience. No disappointment from trailer to feature. So no matter how much we see from a trailer, we will always trust that the feature will be great!! By the way, how come no one put Following on the list. It was this movie that got me into watching the works of Nolan way before Momento.

Joe C. on Aug 24, 2009

Hell yeah ! this looks awesome and I love that music in the trailer. I am completely all in for this soley becuase of Nolan and the fact that he becoming more and more of a brillant director and after TDK I will see anything he does next.

Silver on Aug 25, 2009

Gathering from the lovefest over Christopher Nolan on the above comments he seems the main selling point for this quickly chuck together teaser with a rhythmic base and Matrix references. Certainly does the job of capturing its target audience, while additionally introducing DeCaprio into a genre that he isn't usually associated. Job done. B

dougo162 on Aug 26, 2009

Meh. Doesn't thrill me so far, but at least it's an orginal story and not another friggin' remake, so there is that. But I can't stand DiCrapio. I'll have to see more before I get excited about this.

its only a teaser.... i want to know the storyline, but it does look good....As far as the music being a rip off from T2.. who cares? its just a teaser... besides, maybe Hans asked Fiedel if he could use the music in return from som money, im sure Fiedel wouldnt mind a little extra cash haha

John on Aug 30, 2009

This does what a teaser should, TEASE. It's refreshing to see a movie that doesn't divulge everything about itself instantly.
