The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Sony Pictures Classics has finally debuted a US trailer for Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus over on Yahoo today. I already saw this wonderful film a few times while in Cannes (read my review) and enjoyed it quite a bit. I think Gilliam is back at his best with this, although I'm not sure if I'd call it one of my favorites. Either way, it's a great movie, with a great cast - not only including Heath Ledger and his three replacements, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell - but all the other cast members are fantastic as well. It's a very fantastical film with plenty of very trippy scenes. See the trailer below & enjoy.

This first showed at the Cannes Film Festival and is being distributed by Sony Pictures Classics here in the US. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus arrives in limited theaters starting on December 25th, Christmas Day, then expands.

P.S. - R.I.P. Heath Ledger

sean on Oct 7, 2009

Looks pretty bingo! Some of the swirly candy cg scenes looked a bit cheesy, but the sets look really great.

I don't know what the heck that is about but I don't care. It looks more creative than 99% of the movie's I've seen in the last 6 months. Looks like one of the few movies that actually deserves the tagline "mind dazzling."

ImaginaryVisionary on Oct 7, 2009

sean read your post...didn't like it. lol. CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!!

Xerxex on Oct 7, 2009

Looks spectacular! Can't wait I'm there as soon as it comes to Portland! Heath Ledger's my favorite actor, I wish he was still here to surprise and dazzle us some more. By the way lol #14 you tell him!

Caitie on Oct 7, 2009

Tom Waits. Sold!!!

El Guapo on Oct 7, 2009

It kind looks like it will be better that they had different people fill in for Ledger.

Brian on Oct 7, 2009

Why does it sound like the actors are just using there voices from other movies. the joker and jack sparrow?

Vincent Cipollone on Oct 7, 2009

#1 - i dont get why your type of people even post and # 3, i very much in agree with you, overall it looks interesting.

splinter on Oct 7, 2009

# 20 you're alone on that one, Heath is using his normal voice and Depp is I think using an english accent.

Xerxex on Oct 7, 2009

don't make assumptions, xerxex. ledger did use his "joker voice" when he introduce "dr.... parnassus!" can't speak for depp though, the music was too loud to hear him. looks good, gilliam is awesome. the "candy cg scenes" remind me of his animations for monty python

The Rogue on Oct 8, 2009

zetsu on Oct 8, 2009

Tom Waits was wonderful as God in "Wristcutters". Should be even more fun to see him on the other side.

I want to believe that this can be as good as it looks!!!! Please let it be good! I remember seeing the trailer for the Brothers Grimm and I was SOOOO excited and SOOO Disappointed when I finally saw it =( I hope it's good!

Lolly on Oct 8, 2009

Haha! At 1:24 he's inside the Central Vancouver Public Library. Nice.

Alyx on Oct 8, 2009

depp isnt using an english accent lol thats his voice

Alex W on Oct 8, 2009

wow, that looks amazing!!! i thought it looked a lot like "Children of Paradise" (one of Gilliams favorite films that tends to peak its head in many of his movies) but this trailer looks nothing like that (although I see a few of its elements here). Its great to finally see something ORIGINAL and IMAGINATIVE!!! cant wait to see it! (god I hope there are no transforming robots or vampires in this!)

Lando on Oct 9, 2009

I feel like changing actors would be distractive. I see Joker in Heath Ledger and Jack Sparrow in Johnny Depp.

AprilCoolsDay on Oct 11, 2009

"Nothing's permanent. Not even death". Is it just me or does it sound like he is talking about Ledger. Maybe it's just my imagination, since im imagining this movie to be a tribute to Heath Ledger. I cant wait to see this movie. It has the best cast of any movie that i can remember. Johnny Depp is my all time favourite, Heath Ledger became an instant legend from the Dark Knight, Colin Farrell has been steadily rising to my favourites and Jude Law is an excellent actor. Having those 4 play the same character is something i wanna witness. I mean, they all have to become 1 person, which is something I dont think has ever been done.

Lair on Oct 12, 2009

I...Can't...wait!!!!!! It looks amazing!!!!!

smeeuff on Oct 16, 2009

see what i dont get i if you dont like a movie why take the time to even write one word on a blog. i bet all the ones that were against the movie loved it but dont wanna show it. this movie looks like id put it in my collection. and by the way #20 have you ever thought maybe thats how depp and ledger feel like acting, using past movie voices cause they liked them, think before you type
