The Last House on the Left Trailer

Yep, they went and remade Wes Craven's classic horror movie that was so nasty, it was banned in the UK. Forget nasty this time thought, this remake be your regular R rated horror feature…. or will it? Universal has debuted the first (intense) trailer for the new Last House on the Left remake today. I'm pretty sure this is going to be very violent and intense, but does that make it as good as the original? I'm not sure? I'm not a big enough horror fan to say. The one thing I will say is that Dennis Iliadis, the guy that directed this, has one hell of a gritty style. I guess you can count me in, because this looks frickin' crazy!

The Last House on the Left is directed by Greek filmmaker Dennis Iliadis, of only a drama called Hardcore previously. The screenplay was written by first-timer Adam Alleca and veteran screenwriter Carl Ellsworth, of Red Eye, and Disturbia previously. The film is based on Wes Craven's controversial 1972 thriller of the same name. Universal is bringing The Last House on the Left to theaters on March 13th this year.

I think it looks pretty good. Not a horror movie where the victims are totally useless and fight back, interesting.

Matt on Jan 8, 2009

i never saw the original but in my opinion it looks pretty good and im glad they went with the R rating then a PG-13 crap.

Curtis on Jan 8, 2009

Looks good

Janika on Jan 8, 2009

Saw the original, didnt like it. I guess now that we are in the era of movies like Saw and the new Holloween I expected more. Not that I am comparing the two. Just my personal standards of what horror is suppose to be is blood and guts! Plus the soundtrack was just so wrong for the original. This newer take on the original looks good, very good. Only time will tell.

jvj590 on Jan 8, 2009

Nothing will ever be as gritty as the original but this looks so much better than Friday the 13th's "Ooh let's go to the lake, fuck, and get killed" routine. And it seems to be miles above The Strangers and Funny Games in terms of that whole home invasion genre.

Fuelbot on Jan 8, 2009

I rented the original film way back in 1994 on Halloween along with a handful of other horror films. After my friends and I watched it, we felt as though we had been punched in the gut and kicked in the teeth. Still one of the absolute most brutal films I've ever seen. Although flawed (especially the slapstick cops bits, but Craven has explained why he included them), it's a landmark film and its importance cannot be overstated in the annals of film history, for it and a few other films are directly responsible for what we know as exploitation cinema. Hopefully this remake will do the original justice.

Krug on Jan 8, 2009

Alex, I recommend checking out the director's Greek language film's about two underage hookers in Greece and it's pretty extreme (given the title)..the first half is at the same level as Requiem For A Dream...I don't know if I would say I'm a horror fan but I love this guy's work and looking forward to Last House On The Left....

Christopher M on Jan 8, 2009

I don't know jack about classic horror, Ive seen some now and then and they don't do much for me, I wasn't allowed to see them when I was younger and I guess I was a twisted kid because what my mind thought of when I saw commercials and images was worse then the actual movies. Nowadays I like some horror and some is just dumb, this looks like it could be awesome. I just have a hard time with the "hey lets bunker down in the house" thing, why would anyone stay in a house with fighting, screaming, shooting and killing all around, its fight or flight bitches and flight almost always wins out. This movie seems like it might be cool because they are staying in the house to get revenge and kill those people who hurt their daughter, at least that's a little more realistic. The Strangers was OK, I still thought it should have been better and if you let people with fucking bags on their heads be faster and more agile then you, you are retarded.

Richard on Jan 8, 2009

will be the "so afraid" nudity?

Lucas Moreira on Jan 8, 2009

This is definitely not as hardcore as the original plus they give away all the major plot points in the trailer. Why ruin the movie like that? Haven't the people that put together these trailers learned anything about suspense?

Film-Book dot Com on Jan 8, 2009

Looks cool.

Darunia on Jan 8, 2009

DAMN IT>.. I was interested... TILL THEY SHOWED ME EVERY INTENSE SCENE IN THE MOVIE.... you see each caharacter of the 'bad guys' die... go back and watch it scene by scene and you will see what i mean.... I am not a horror fan at all, but love suspensful thrillers... I make a seperation, many times not sure what that seperation.... I think it is that I don't want to consider myself a horror fan since horror now-days means piece of shit slasher film. OOPS... just noticed that #10 also mentions the plot exposures.... but I am still pissed about it and leaving my post as is... DAMN IT

Dusty on Jan 8, 2009

HOLY SHITE!!! It's Cromartie!! Anyway.... sweettt child o'mmiiiyyyinneeee~!!

LW on Jan 8, 2009

anyone know who that cover of sweet child of mine is by?

JB on Jan 8, 2009

Its been a while since I got goosebumps watching a trailer for a thriller/horror film. Looks interesting. Will see it eventually. Good movie to watch at home in the dark 🙂

Keith on Jan 8, 2009

Why are they remaking this!!! That is what hollywood is doing these days, remaking movies that don't need to be remade. While filming the original version, during the scene where the girl is murdered, the crew was scheduled to go to lunch after filming the scene but nobody could eat after filming. Now why would you need to remake a film that had that effect.

Shelby on Jan 8, 2009

Looks pretty good. Definitely an interesting story and different from the lame horror movies we are being spoonfed recently. Side note: I absolutely love the song paired with all that gruesome violence. Anyone know the na,e of it?

Anthony on Jan 8, 2009

I think that it is "Sweet Child O' Mine" covered by Taken by Trees. But not positive on that.

JB on Jan 8, 2009

Yeah. Taken By Trees. Great vocalist who used to be in a band called The Concretes.

Fuelbot on Jan 8, 2009

Looks good but couldn't they have used the original Guns 'N Roses, "Sweet Child of Mine"??

Blue Silver on Jan 8, 2009

I think this looks very good but i agree with the comments above that todays trailers ruin the surprises!!! Its like a condensed 2 minute version of the away plot points and twists for everyone! Now we all know that the family fight back and take control.....but did we need to know that in the trailer??!! NO!!! I love watching trailers in order to excite me and leave me in anticipation of the movie but sometimes im let down when i get to see finished article and i realise ive seen all the best bits!

vegasDanny on Jan 8, 2009

wow. reminds me of the psychological horror of Funny Games. i wanna see it. or the original. probably the original. that's all remakes are good for. getting me to see the original before the remake comes out and then passing on the remake cause the original is clearly better. 😛 as for exposure of the plot points: they did that with the remake of [Rec] and I went and found [Rec] to watch and was sad the trailers for the remake gave it all away. sigh. stupid hollywood distributers.

dave13 on Jan 8, 2009

hooly cow! haha i like that cover song 🙂

Susana on Jan 8, 2009

This looks awesome.

John on Jan 8, 2009

Ah, looks like fine fun fer th' whole family! Huzzah!

Hmmmm on Jan 9, 2009

Definitely got a nice flow to it and the colours really sing for this type of genre.

dom on Jan 9, 2009

Excellent trailer

johndoe on Jan 9, 2009

that guy on Jan 9, 2009

looks gay to me, another same ole horror movie.

Atomic Popcorn on Jan 9, 2009

I'm not a fan of all these remakes, though I did enjoy Texas Chainsaw Massacre and I'm looking forward to the Friday The 13th revamp. That being said, the movie has a great premise and brilliant social commentary on "Good V. Evil." I hope the decision to pair the whimsical "Sweet Child Of Mine" with the brutality of the trailer is an indication of some originality. Looking forward to it.

Delvis on Jan 9, 2009

What an awesome trailer!

Ricardo on Jan 9, 2009

I did see original it was pretty good, I've been hoping they would do this it looks like it stays pretty true to form. we shall see

Drisma on Jan 9, 2009

That was the shortest feature film I've ever seen, don't need to go to the cinema now.

Crapola on Jan 9, 2009

i am a bit freaked out

Darrin on Jan 9, 2009

Leave it to Wes Kraven to put the "Family" back in "Horror".

Samuel K. on Jan 9, 2009

I like how the (hot) Mom smiles at innocently at the end, as they're about to nuke the kids brains. "We have to be ready to do anything." Chicks dig effed up flicks like this 'un!

Jimbo Slims on Jan 9, 2009

The original was alright, but this looks great.

Syphous on Jan 9, 2009

Ok, the movie looks promising. But why would i want to watch it now that I've seen pretty much all of it in this trailer?! Is it just me or do they show too much?

Phontsolo on Jan 9, 2009

If you are going to make a thriller, rather than horror, then why have the male lead put someones head in a microwave? Thrillers are better when normal characters are put in extreme situations. Yes, fight back, but don't be sadistic. Normal people forced to extreme measures don't resort to sadism. That ruined it for me, but like most people, I'll still watch the film.

Brad on Jan 9, 2009

OMG... they also killed Becca from 'Superbad' ... damn!

LW on Jan 9, 2009

Looks really sweet... Im Glad Spencer Clark has got a great roll in this one.. the kid is awesome and definetly under rated.. He was great in "Mystic River" and in "Unbreakable" and also as a youngster in "Gladiator.

Ninjavideoinc on Jan 9, 2009

ARGH!!!!! The title should have been DO NOT WATCH but go see this movie. Never seen the 1972 one but this trailer RUINED the whole movie.

GPX2 on Jan 9, 2009

Way to show pretty much the whole movie's plot in the trailer. >.>

SuicidalOptimist on Jan 9, 2009

Looks sadistically fun.

Ryan on Jan 9, 2009

The original was a classic. Very very intense. There was a reason that it was banned in certain areas. They better not church it up this time around. You should not be able to watch. That's why the 1st version was so effective. I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me but the last movie that did that was the remake of The Hills have Eyes (another Craven remake). I think those who have seen it know of the scene I'm talking about....hint....the father ignited pretty well and everyone in the trailer had an experience that would surely give anyone a complex. This version of "Last House" looks to be in the same color palette and shooting style as a majority of the horror movies I've seen as of recently (Texas Chainsaw, Friday the 13th, Freddy vs. Jason, The Saw franchise, mainly 2 and 3...etc. etc.). They seem to really like that saturated mid green/blue tint thing. Personally I'd like to see some more variance but that's what works right now so...I just don't see any reason to remake it. That's what the original is for.

somnambulist on Jan 9, 2009

Is that Monica Potter?

emeraldcity on Jan 9, 2009

Looks pretty good...but why? Why remake this? And why show the twist from the original in the trailer? Still, as a movie that looks nothing like the original, it looks pretty good. But there's no way that this is going to be as f-ed up as the original. I don't think killers will force her to wet herself like they do in the original.

Kevin on Jan 9, 2009

Actually, Craven's film wasn't an original was based on Ingmar Bergman's The Virgin Spring which won the Best Foreign Film academy award in 1961. Of course, Bergman's film wasn't modern-day horror but set in 14th century Sweden but the plot twist of killers asking for shelter unknowingly in home of parents of someone they killed is the same.

Scaryfun on Jan 9, 2009

That was a great trailer. I never saw Wes Craven's original, but I loved the concept. I've never been a big horror fan, but some movies pique my interest. Saw I, 28 Days Later, Funny Games. Now this has me really excited to see it.

Chris on Jan 9, 2009

Well, I feel a bit hesitant about this movie...It just seems like another mindless slasher movie. I love Wes Cravens' work...that's the only reason I'd go to see it...other than looks like a higher quality and better version of The Strangers. Wow, #49..I thought I was the only one to see the Virgin Spring...I so did enjoy that movie. It was very intense for that era. Well done indeed.

athena on Jan 9, 2009

oh i can't wait to see this film...the original was okay like all the rest of the older films like hills have eyes and such. this film looks like it's basically spot on. also people really need to see the original if you did then you would know what happens and this trailer wouldn't make a difference. i think they make these trailers of these remakes and show these quick scenes of what's gonna happen to the people because they assume people have seen the original and already know what happens (even though they shouldn't really assume things) shoot i'm ready to see this

squizzy on Jan 9, 2009

If you watched the trailer, you have now seen the whole movie. The only reason to see it in a theater would be to see the graphic stuff. Rent the original.

tommyturner on Jan 10, 2009

woah, really liked the trailer. I think that's the first time I can remember that a scene in a trailer really gave me the chills, when at the end the guy said "I can't move" and the father (I think it was him...) was like "You're paralyzed from the neck down..." MESSED UP, lol.

jman571 on Jan 10, 2009

I like the idea of a family dishing out a little horror and pain themselves.

Xerxex on Jan 15, 2009

love the song would realy like to know who's covering it

danielle on Jan 15, 2009

# 56 Danielle the cover is performed by- "Taken by Trees"

xerxerxex on Jan 15, 2009

This actually looks 10 times better than the original.

Jaybear on Jan 16, 2009

Wow...and I thought the Bunny Shorts did movies quick. Well, I just saw the whole thing. Be fun to watch at home, but I'm not paying for a movie where the only thing I missed ont he trailer is them trying to formulate a plot and act.

Emma Watson is so f***able on Feb 10, 2009

I would normally be toatally on board with the whole "don't show the whole flick in the trailer" thing, but this time I'm glad they showed the twist in it. If they hadn't I probably wouldn't think twice about this movie. Odds are I'd shrug it off as just another same old, poor remakes retooled to appeal to the new generation raised on torture porn. But now it looks awesome and I'm looking forward to it, and I'll rent the original too. And the Sweet Child of Mine cover in there was off the hook.

Da Man on Feb 10, 2009

comcast has the original on it's fearnet if you have on-demand. i just watched it and it was pretty intense.. i look forward to seeing an updated version of this film with a much better soundtrack and updated charachters. and yes, i too totally dig the cover of sweet child.

jennabells0718 on Feb 24, 2009

I saw the original LHOTL at the drive-in when I was about 14 years old. It was the most brutal movie I can remember ever seeing and it was seared in my brain as the definition of horrible. I have my doubts the remake will be as hard to watch as the original was in 72. Its hard to shock someone in the world today, "we've already seen it all"

mpoe on Mar 13, 2009

Advanced "The Strangers" style, looks pretty good.

Fisherr on Mar 13, 2009

the original wasnt as hardcore as i thought. then again i have been watching horror films since the womb.....

lalafrog2003 on Mar 14, 2009

Where can I rent this movie in Boise, Idaho?

Karla Brown on Sep 4, 2009

i can get it here in new haven ct. at hollywood video and blockbuster (i think bb has it anyhow ) if you have either store out there you should be able to get it. be warned, the rape scene is pretty brutal so its not to good as a date pic or something to watch with

craig on Sep 4, 2009

I Hate rape movies, this should be banned from mainstream channels. The authourt should be getting the treatment they want their characters to get. Movies likes this get me sick. You dont have to explicit show torture and rape to get your points across it make the movie really dumb despite larger budget... someone please see the swedish movie: besökarna - all the right tricks to make a good movie are there.
