New Photos: Channing Tatum Stars in The Eagle of the Ninth
The only new photos worth posting today are from Kevin Macdonald's The Eagle of the Ninth starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland, Denis O'Hare, and Mark Strong. This is a Roman epic adventure about a young soldier who endeavors to honor his father's memory by finding his lost legion's golden emblem. It's directed by Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland, State of Play) and based on Rosemary Sutcliff's novel of the same name. Thanks to Yahoo we've got our first look at six new photos from Eagle of the Ninth (including one above) to compliment that photo from November. Check ’em out below!
The Eagle of the Ninth is set in the dangerous world of second-century Britain. In 140 AD, twenty years after the disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion, young centurion Marcus Aquila (Tatum) arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father. Accompanied only by his British slave Esca (Bell), Marcus sets out across Hadrian's Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia – to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father's memory, and retrieve the lost legion's golden emblem. Macdonald is a great director and I'm looking forward to this because of him, but Tatum just looks out of place. Thoughts?

I'm thinking it's the haircut. It's WAAAAAAY too pretty for a badass Roman soldier, which is what I'm assuming Tatum will be playing. Besides that, his facial expressions are all the same - kinda like Daniel Radcliffe.

Loved State of Play and the photos look cool. Not a fan of Tatum, but still looks worth watching...

who IS a fan of Channing Tatum? Do love D.Sutherland though...
my name is... on Dec 30, 2009
Channing Tatum looks no more out of place in this than Russell Crowe did in Gladiator. In fact, Tatum even looks like a young Maximus. His acting, well, that's another issue.

So... it's like the Rome (HBO Series) but for teens? LAME. Go watch the first season of Rome. In fact, the first episode is about two Roman centurions retrieving the LOST GOLDEN EAGLE. Again, LAME.

The story is the first episode of HBO's Rome, just drawn out. haha The photos don't impress me. This is going to be a generic action movie in the guise of an epic. I am all for more sword and sandal flicks though.

as far as the movie goes: i'm really excited about the plot. i'll be watching for more on this one.

oh come one... its nothing like the short story arc from Rome season 1... that involved TWO legionares from the 13th retrieving ceaser's eagle... this is about one centurion retrieving the golden eagle of an annihilated 9th legion... i don't see any similarity (ie. sarcasm) tatum cannot really display any sort of emotion, much like zoolander he has one look and people who cast him are not taking the crazy pills the rest of us are its got Donald Sutherland and Mark Strong though so I'll end up watching it (that and i do like hack/slack period movies)

So the screen shots look good, but I've never seen him where hes not talking like a white guy from the ghetto or something so I'm curious to see if hes actually got any acting range at all, which I'm thinking is no.

Stop putting that loser in movies! He proceeds to ruin every thing he touches due to his lack of talent. EPIC lack of talent. I would love to see this plot in action, but I won't go see it because of him. I won't have another GI Joe episode where the whole time my jaw is dropped in awe wondering how this guy isn't digging ditches for living.

I'm a FAN of Tatum...his perfromance in A guide to recognizing your Saints was brilliant, and I like the above pics.

actually I only like he first picture, the others are bland.

Jaime Bell looks far more bad-ass in this than Channing Tatum. And, dare I say it, can also act far better than Channing Tatum!

#10 said it. This guy is just a pretty face for tweens. He will ruin this movie.
600RR on Dec 30, 2009
He does look a bit out of place...but maybe that's because I remember him dancing around in that one movie. Who knows, maybe this could change my mind on him.

I feel badly for Jamie Bell...he's actually a brilliant actor, but he keeps being cast supporting guys who cannot act.
Emma on Dec 30, 2009
This is going to be the worst movie of all time. How does this kid continues to get work? I dunno
Kevin on Dec 30, 2009
Sorry but I cant take Jamie Bell seriously in this - put your ballet shoes back on!!

I love Roman/Greek movies. ^_^

With this much acting talent (save Mr. Tatum) assembled and a director of some considerable talent, I'm giving this one the benefit of the doubt. Wake me when they start releasing the stills with Mark Strong in them.

Ah not sure about Tatum at all, he isn't a good actor to me, and needs to probably go to some acting classes. For some reason the casting agents seem to see something that I am misssing. The pics are ok, but I never heard of this movie, so I guess I will wait for the trailer before completely writing it off, although Tatum being the star is a turn off already.

TO ALL YOU CHANNING TATUM HATERS I THINK YOU SHOULD GET UP OFF OF MY MANS CASE HE IS A PHENOMENAL ACTOR AND A JOY TO WATCH ON THE SCREEN HE IS FUNNY WHEN IT IS CALLED FOR HE DOES ANGRY VERY VERY WELL AND AS FOR ACTION THERE ARE JUST NO WORDS TO EXSPRESS SO TO ALL YOU HATERS YOUBETTER START TO TAKE NOTICE BECAUSE MR TATUM IS GOING TO SHOCK YOU ALL WHEN IN THE YEARS TO COME HE WALKS AWAY WITH AN ACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST ACTOR AND BELIEVE ME HE WILL BECAUSE HE IS AS I SAID BEFORE A PHENOMENAL ACTOR

I don't know anything about Channing Tatum...but his name makes me cringe. Let's hope his acting is better than his name. Given that the rest of the cast is pretty spectacular, I will hold out hope that he lives up to their standards. Cross your collective fingers folks, and hope he doesn't bring the whole thing down... As for the all caps perpetrator, who believes that Mr. Tatum is phenomenal...I highly doubt he is phenomenal, just seeing the roles/movies he has appeared in (and the very strong opinions expressed just herein...not to mention other forums.) Maybe you should look up the definition of phenomenal. And to the ridiculous person who can't see Jamie Bell in anything but ballet shoes...dude, get out more, watch some independent movies...broaden your cinematic horizons. The guy has done more than play a dancer. And he's been great in everything.

sorry guys and girls(???) but i did like the gi joe movie and i give this channing tatum dude a chance because schwarzenegger cannot act and dolph lundgren cannot act and...you see my point? if you want a movie with good actors and stuff dont watch movies made for kids (transformers, gijoe and every friggin comicmovie not rated r)
yojoe on Jan 2, 2010
I'm not sure about this, the book was great but can Tatum act?? (answer:watch gi joe. If you tick yes seek help.) Good director though, and supporting cast. I think it will be better then the pictures suggest. PS. no. 19, that was what 10, 11 years ago? I agree with no. 26, Jamie Bell has done some epic stuff proving he isn't just some ballet boy 1 hit wonder. If only they found a good shot of him, he looks...well, he will be fantastic in the movie, thank goodness he is in alot of scenes with Tatum-a welcome distraction from the pain of Mr America's accent fail.
