New Terminator Salvation Concept Art Plus McG Quotes

"John Connor doesn't come into the picture saying, 'Follow me and everything's going to be cool,'" McG tells Wired. "He's just one of many soldiers when we meet him. It's like [Spider-Man] where you're Peter Parker: 'Hey I'm just a lowly high school photographer,' and he learns with great power comes great responsibility. Or the hacker [in The Matrix]: 'They call me Neo, who cares?' 'No man, you're the one, you're going to lead us!'" Wired magazine has published a handful of new concept art photos and a bunch of new quotes focusing on Terminator Salvation. Check out a few of the new images below and read on for more from McG.

"The first film shows Schwarzenegger's T-800 coming from 2029 back in time," McG said. "Salvation takes place in 2018, so you see the R&D that went into the T-800. It's like the polio vaccine: You've got to go through a lot of lab rats to get to vaccine. In this film, humans are the lab rats. Skynet is testing on us to figure out how to make a photorealistic, leaner, smaller, more capable machine -- the T-800." In addition to a freaky photo, there's a few more below of the Skynet labs and factories that will be seen in the film.

"It's critical to push the visual effects forward in this film," McG told Wired. "In Terminator 2, when Robert Patrick's head came apart, that's pushing it forward. So we hired Charlie Gibson who's won two Academy Awards and did Gore Verbinski's last four or five movies. He's up there at [Industrial Light and Magic] cooking up a few things that I can say in fairness will go beyond viewers' expectation."

Terminator Salvation is directed by McG, of Charlie's Angels and We Are Marshall previously. The script was written by writing duo John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris, of Into the Sun, The Net, The Game, and Terminator 3 previously. This marks the return of the Terminator franchise after Terminator 3 in 2003. Terminator Salvation arrives in theaters next summer on May 22nd, 2009. Stay tuned for more!

Great concept art, I hope that gets translated in the film. No doubt the effects will be top notch with ILM behind them.

Wow, that is amazing. Told ya McG could do it. While CHARLIE'S ANGELS might have been bad, the action scenes were terrific.

Update. I thought I should let you know that you've had some incorrect information for some time. That duo of writers are not the formal screenwriters for this script. They're part of the STORY team, not the writing team. The actual writing team consists of: Jonathan Nolan (previously of Memento, The Prestige, The Dark Knight) Anthony E. Zuiker (previously of 498 CSI episodes) Shawn Ryan (previously of "The Shield"; creator and writer) and Paul Haggis (previously of Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale, Flags of Our Fathers, Million Dollar Baby, and Crash) These four brilliant men are the actual team behind the script fueling McG's reinvention of Terminator. They're the real talent. Not the other wannabes. Just to clarify that. It's the one thing that always worried me, the writing team.
