Official Trailer for Mira Nair's 'Amelia' Starring Hilary Swank
Fox Searchlight has just debuted the trailer for Mira Nair's Amelia, the biopic starring Hilary Swank as Amelia Earhart. In addition to Swank, this also stars Ewan McGregor, Richard Gere, Virginia Madsen, Joe Anderson, Christopher Eccleston, and Mia Wasikowska. I will admit that I think Amy Adams plays a much cuter Amelia Earhart (in Night at the Museum 2), but Swank plays a much more realistic one. This looks like a great biopic but not much more. I'm sure it'll still be a wonderful film, as Mira Nair is a talented filmmaker, but like with The Aviator, I don't expect to love it. Anyway, let us know what you think of this!

Amelia is directed by Indian filmmaker Mira Nair, of Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair, and The Namesake previously. The screenplay was written by Oscar winning writer Ronald Bass, of a great amount of films including Rain Man, When a Man Loves a Woman, Dangerous Minds, Waiting to Exhale, My Best Friend's Wedding, What Dreams May Come, Entrapment, and Mozart and the Whale most recently. This is based on numerous biographies of Amelia Earhart written by authors Susan Butler, Mary Lovell, and Elgen Long. Fox Searchlight will finally be bringing Amelia to limited theaters starting on October 23rd this fall.
Looks solid. That about it.

Hell yeah a great biopic! And I on the other hand loved The Aviator! But not much more? What does that mean? A movie about a real life lady who challenged and showed everyone what she was capable of, captured the attention of the world and went down in history. Oh and on a sie note FS... thanks for ignoring my submission (again) to post something. Pretty much every other movie site posted The Pacific trailer but you wouldn't. Unbelieveable!!!

It's no Rocketeer, but it should be alright.

This looks great very strong cast and lovely dialogue. Mira Nair never disappoints! I'm there.
dom on Jun 25, 2009
I agree, Amy is much cuter as Amelia

Hilary "Horse Face" Swank.... Richard "Rat Face" Gere.... = what nightmares are made of.
DoomCanoe on Jun 25, 2009
Love the music and I'll go see it for sure but I don't think this will do well.

Yeah Amy is cuter, but have you see pictures of Amelia Earhart? Swank is perfect.

#2 - I love you. Dearly.
Mark on Jun 25, 2009
I agree with Nic, what are you wanting to watch? Why do people have to be cute? What a nonsense, Hilary Swank actually looks like her.
Crapola on Jun 25, 2009
What's the sequel? She fights aliens on the Bermuda Triangle? 😛
LW on Jun 25, 2009
They should have gotten Micheal Bay to direct it. I didn't see one explosion the whole time. This will obviously suck.

You ever think that number 7 has both a horse and rat face? and makes up his own nightmares?
Oblong on Jun 25, 2009
looks really good, but everytime I look at Hillary I think she looks like Matt Damon in drag. it may sound mean, but I can't help it.

Looks great. If anyone deserves a movie, Amelia Earhart certainly does. Especially considering she is an American Legend that all Elementary School kids learn about. Not a big fan of Gere, but Hillary Swank is a great actress. This trailer further proves that.
Brandon on Jun 25, 2009
You don't win 2 Oscars for being 'cute'. I think Hillary Swank is an outstanding actress and this will be a fantastic movie. @2 hahahahaha. naughty.
Barb on Jun 25, 2009
This looks like it will be good!
Yep on Jun 26, 2009
*cries* #18 YOU'RE SO RIGHT!!! by the way, do you have no arms and legs?
DoomCanoe on Jun 26, 2009
LOL @ 19 - yeah she does look like that at some angles... but she is an absolutley amazing actress.. Mira Nair is known for her sensitive potrayal of women in her movies... i think this will be phenomenal.. am not a big richard gere fan... but hoping he turns in a good performance. Hillary for her 3rd Trophy... i wanna see her on stage going hysterical.

If Amy Adams played the part, I'd definitely go watch it, without my wife of course 🙂 Also, Christopher Eccleston is great. Best Dr. Who, great in Heroes.
Cody on Jun 26, 2009
The fact that this story couldn't possibly show her true outcome as factual due to no one being there is bad for anyone making a movie about her without falling into speculative territory.

# 23 dammit! I don't I type with my forehead!

Amelia 2: This time it's personal.
Corey on Jun 27, 2009
why in every movie swank needs to prove that she is something else and people are always telling her different....a karate expert, a man, a boxer....the list goes on film students will now learn of a new screen writing theory...the swank theory put swank in a movie...tell her she cant be an uhhhhh an octopus=millions
nocsyn on Jun 28, 2009
I think Amy Adams was a better Amelia.
Maya T. on Jul 1, 2009
It is simply amazing to me that after reading down to the 32nd submission, I wouldn't even have any idea how to sum up Hilary Swank. Some of the submissions are right off the wall. Well.....just so happens that I had the upmost honour of being an principal extra in this movie working along side of Hilary Swank, and I will tell you that she is an absolutely awesome person, and a great actress.
Robert on Jul 22, 2009
I don't find hilary swank attractive, but as a film director I definitely think she is way better than amy adams for the role of Amelia. The film looks pretty good. Probably get several oscar nominations. and will definitely do well at the box office with women audiences.

Plus Fox Searchlight has a good record of making good indie films. Its actually the only good thing associated with Fox.
