What was on your Christmas list? How about an ancient Chinese epic movie called The Warlords starring Jet Li? I'm not sure why, but Magnolia Pictures just debuted the official US trailer for The Warlords, which is a part of their Six Shooter Film Series V2, on Christmas Eve tonight (on Apple). Despite their odd timing, this is actually a badass trailer. Set in the midst of war and political upheaval during the Taiping Rebellion of the 1860s, The Warlords stars Jet Li as General Pang, who barely survives a brutal massacre of his fellow soldiers by playing dead, and joins a band of bandits led by Er Hu and Wu Yang. Watch and enjoy below!

A heroic tale of three blood brothers and their struggle to survive in the midst of war & political upheaval.
The Warlords was co-directed by veteran filmmakers Peter Chan, a former John Woo protege, and Wai Man Yip, of numerous Chinese films with crazy names like Sixty Million Dollar Man, For Bad Boys Only, Women from Mars, and Anna in Kung-Fu Land. The screenplay was co-written by eight different Chinese writers. The film is based on "The Assassination of Ma," a Qing Dynasty story about the killing of general Ma Xinyi. Magnolia Pictures will be bringing The Warlords to limited theaters starting on April 2nd, 2010 next year.

#6... I was just about to say the same thing. I saw this movie YEARS ago and I am even surprised it's getting released now like its new. Anyways, this movie was amazing when I saw it. One of the best movies that I've seen. The story is freaking awesome and so are the battles. I liked it a lot.

Didn't Jet Li say he was done with epics? I guess it doesn't matter if it's good.

The pacing and editing for this movie were horrible. Almost unwatchable actually. I was greatly disappointed by it :\

This was on TV on the Film4 channel here in the UK last week. So I don't understand the whole trailer thing & getting released April 2010.

It has been out in Europe for a couple of months... i went to see it with the same thinking you might have from seeing this trailer, the the movie isnt what you expect, its a fun movie and every thing, but to start of its in an old mandarin dialect o something, and its a lot more story and a lot less fighting then what i was hopping for... its not a bad movie, just not the one i thought i was gona see

I hate the trailer. Voice over and it doesn't really give a real since what the movie is about. I'm here in the LA and I've had the DVD for at least two years. This is movie is a remake of the Shaw Brothers "The Blood Brothers" with Ti Lung and David Chiang. Ti Lung actually won the best actor award (Jet Li role). Andy Lau was the best actor in this version. Love both versions.

That's an awesome trailer. I've already watched the movie and now want to watch it again 😀 I'm a huge fan of all three main actors. I love Kaneshiro's earlier films, specially ones he did with Wong Kar-Wai.

Jet Li has retired from kung-fu movies. The movies he's talking about are movies where he was just supposed to fight everyone all the time. He is obviously still making movies, still making action movies, still making war epics, etc. I think Forbidden Kingdom was the only 'kung fu' movie he's made since he said that, but I'm sure part of the reason was to co star and fight Jackie Chan. At least, I hope that was the reason, because the movie was fucking awful.

I am looking forward to seeing this movie! It doesn't seem to be anything really original, but it looks like an entertaining action/adventure movie. Plus the scenery, cinematography and music seem great!

Solid film. Very good not great. Nice to see Jet play a real character other than the uber hero that he is usually cast as. I won't hold him to his vow not to make Kung Fu movies. Wasn't "Fearless" made after that statement? Well as long as he stays away from movies with french directors or "rappers" I'm in.

Alex - Why did Jet Li's 'Fearless' announce it was his last martial arts epic if he's back? Is he pulling a Favre or something?

Looks good. I like a good battle movie with a good story to go with it. Jet Li has the best, "I'm gonna kick your ass!" expression.

Suprisingly Sam FUCKING Worthington is not in this!!!! Just for a change. Might be worth a look after all.
