Kat Dennings

This is some odd casting. MTV reports that actress Kat Dennings has also joined the cast of Kenneth Branagh's Thor movie, which starts shooting in January. But where did they get this scoop? From co-star Natalie Portman. During their interview with Portman, she revealed: "Well I'm really excited…Kat Dennings is going to be in it with me and she's a good friend and an amazing actress, so I'm looking forward to that." But what role will she play? No one knows, and everyone's guessing, but it's hard to tell. Dennings is the latest to join the already very packed cast of stars in the Marvel adaptation, including Jaimie Alexander.

Portman is already set to play Jane Foster, the nurse that Thor falls in love with when he's on Earth. And Alexander is already set to play Sif, a goddess in Asgard who is Thor's lover there. So Dennings won't play either of those roles. Maybe she's be another nurse or friend or someone that Thor comes across on Earth? Could be as simple as that. Or if you're looking for some bigger theories, head over to SlashFilm. As for Portman, well, she seems enthusiastic. "Well, I was really excited when they told me Kenneth Branagh is directing it because it seemed like such a smart choice but such an unexpected choice, that it was like 'This is really weird. I have to try this.'" Indeed it is, and with Dennings on-board, damn am I get excited, too!

Paigey: I was thinking the same thing. That's the only other notable female THOR role that I am aware of. My question is: When are we going to hear anything about Captain America?

There are hundreds of cast members in movies, K. I think they've named about a dozen actors or so. Still need to cast a hundred-plus parts...

Saw this on SpoilerTV. Could this possibly be the role Kat Dennings is going to play?? Thor - Official Casting Call [MARCY LEWIS] (20) Is a college student. Aloof, jaded beyond her years, she thought her internship with scientist Kate Spelling would be an easy 6 college credits. However, she's been stuck for months in this small New Mexico town and relegated to a wide range of unglamorous activities. Kate has been particularly hard on Marcy, making it her personal project to see that Marcy lives up to her potential. Marcy deals with her situation both by using subtle irony and by being an overt wiseass.

Wow - she is gorgeous. She could easily fill an Enchantress or Hela costume and look devilishly lovely. With all these starts lining up for what may amount to be cameos, you have to wonder if Marvel is banking on thor being a franchise they can spin a few sequels out of. That way they can get these folks back for more subtantial roles down the road.
