Rob Cohen Ditches xXx Sequel for McG's Medieval Movie

Rob Cohen

Remember that new xXx sequel called xXx: The Return of Xander Cage? It might actually turn out pretty good! One of Hollywood's worst directors, Rob Cohen, has decided to ditch that xXx sequel to instead take on a project called Medieval that McG will produce. We first wrote about Medieval back in March, when it was rumored that McG might direct it. Cohen describes it as The Magnificent Seven in the Middle Ages, though I can assure you this will be the farthest from John Sturges's work you will ever see. New Regency, which will finance this and distribute through Fox, acquired the spec script for upwards of seven figures.

"It was a tough decision about xXx," Cohen told Variety. "I talked to Vin [Diesel] over the weekend and said I hoped they would wait, but that if they find another director who's right for the sequel, I certainly wouldn't be angry. But I could not let something like this go." Cohen is the director responsible for such cinematic catastrophes as The Fast and the Furious, xXx, Stealth, and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor most recently. Apparently he "studied anthropology and European history at Harvard," which is why New Regency thinks he's a good fit. This guy shouldn't be directing anything, but somehow keeps getting work.

C'mon! Cohen ain't that bad. 'The Fast & the Furious' was cool. Did you forget he also directed 'Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story' in 1993? He may surprise us yet. Uwe Boll is BAD. NO other director may even come close--except the director of that "Mega Shark and Giant Octopus" atrocity, which the trailer is killin' on Youtube!

lets face it, the XXX movies were not really good... they were on par with the first fast and the furious, ie. all flash and 'adrenaline' scenes (i do use that loosely) and ziltch on story and character he should have stayed and produced the status quo rather then move his, lets call it, signature style to a new movie to have it aggregate into the same steaming pile of... umm... cinema

Another pile of poo - He destroyed the Mummy franchise by making it about something other than a mummy and now someones making a big mistake letting him loose on a medieval film! - it'll probably end up looking something like star wars.

#3 Johnny, you've gotta be freakin nuts! Those films were at least enjoyable, unlike anything that Uwe Boll and Brett Ratner put out! Since when does the average moviegoer go see a film for profound storytelling??---- Especially knowing beforehand what you're in for!! I know you'll be in line for the next "Transformers" and surely not for it's storytelling and characterizations! ....and YES, I enjoyed the hell outta "XXX"!!!!!!

C'mon Alex give the guy a break. There is no more room in the world for cynics! Yeah he hasn't done good, but no one is as bad as Uwe Boll, so I willing to give Cohen a chance, but as my previous comment states the only Vin Diesel news of any kind that I and a few others care for is Richard B.Riddick. And I know my comment is hypocritical and I have fulfilled the prophecy of becoming a cynic myself, well too bad for people who wish to point that out! Can anybody honeslty say Uwe boll isn't one of the worst directors out there? I mean even the Showtime soft core porn movies are better than his! So give Cohen a break!

I am not too happy that he decided against directing the much anticipated sequel to xXx. I hope that they end up making it.
