Rob Luketic: From Romantic Comedy to Romancing the Stone?

Though director Robert Luketic has had a steady track record for mostly average romantic comedies like Win a Date with Tad Hamilton and more recently The Ugly Truth, his action flick Killers starring Ashton Kutcher just might be a good transition as Pajiba reports that he might now be attached to direct the already announced remake of Robert Zemeckis' original 1984 action adventure Romancing the Stone. It's been over a year since we heard anything about this, but it sounds like the studio wants to have Luketic tackle this one before he sets out on his recently inherited Barbarella remake, which better not star Katherine Heigl.
The finished script was written by Eagle Eye scribe Dan McDermott and while we don't know for sure how contemporary the update will be, it probably won't be too drastic of a departure from the original, which saw Kathleen Turner as a romance novelist who heads to Colombia to find her kidnapped sister. In her journey, she finds herself caught up with a faux Indiana Jones-like explorer (played by Michael Douglas) and plenty of misadventures. It'll be interesting to see how a rather "Plain Jane" director like Luketic will handle action and comedy considering he has had some trouble with comedy alone before. If this gets off the ground as fast as the studio is hoping, you can expect some casting announcements in the near future, so stay tuned!

Why the Katherine Heigl - did she is a fantastic actress and would make a great Barbarella but I can't see her doing the movie.

How on Earth does this film need a remake? The original is terrific fun and hasn't dated at all. Studios could save a lot of money by just re-releasing the originals, instead of spending tens of millions making flat, charmless photocopies of them.

@4 - Well she has been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis for a number of years, so cut her some slack. Otherwise, this is yet ANOTHER remake that doesn't need to get made.
