Ryan Reynolds Promises Deadpool Will Be Like the Comics
We've all heard this before - someone "intimately involved" promises they'll deliver a movie as close to the comics as possible. The question just is if all these early statements will hold up years from now when it is actually about to be released. Back in May, it was confirmed that Fox is moving forward with a Deadpool spin-off starring Ryan Reynolds. We heard plenty off-and-on from Reynolds during Wolverine's release about the possibility of a Deadpool spin-off, but now HitFix has another brief quote from Reynolds after its official announcement, and it sounds like it's moving along fairly quickly. But will any of this hold up?
"Well, I'm intimately involved with it. We're just trying to break a story right now and figure out who the villain is going to be and all that stuff. But, it's going to be just like the comic books. I'm gonna have a messed up face and you may see some flashbacks of Wade earlier in his life, but primarily what you see is what you get in the comics and that's the goal. And there is no better place to draw material from then the comics which are incredible."
I'm sure director Gavin Hood or screenwriter David Benioff or even Tom Rothman would've said that X-Men Origins: Wolverine was going to be "just like the comic books" back in the day. Not that I don't trust Reynolds, I love the guy, he's one of my favorite actors, I think he'll do a great job playing Wade Wilson, I just don't trust Fox at all. The original announcement said that they would go back to the character's roots and that it'd be "classic Deadpool" and not a continuation of the mutant from Wolverine. It just comes down to who they hire as a screenwriter, I guess. At least it's good to know Reynolds is fighting the good fight.

I reall really hope Fox doesn't botch this up. I really think that they need to go for a more bloody film, add a bit of gore stay true to the comics. PLease FOX!! I am begging you on behalf of all Deadpool lovers don't go for the easy money shot! make a decent comic book movie out of Deadpool!
Luke on Jun 1, 2009
Yeah, right... where have I heard that one before???? My bet is that it's going to Suck!!! Sorry for the negative attitude. Luke, you could beg all you want, Fox doesn't care. Also in my opinion, Deadpool doesn't deserve his own movie. Don't get me wrong, he's been one of my favorite Marvel characters, but really? This shows that they're definitely just going for the "EASY MONEY SHOT", they don't care for the character... it's all about the money.

Hmmm yeah you're right there The One. He is one of my favourite Marvel characters and as much as I would love to see him in a movie on his own (with Ryan Reynolds playing him) I just can't imagine a decent movie about him. In fact I have a feeling we'll be let down like we were for Wolverine. Especially in the effects department

Must say I hope a lot on this one. Deadpool is a fun character, he has a dark past (which might not be in the movie itself though). He is also seen in the comics as knowing he is in a comic book, hopefully they will stay true to that as well (they did some of that in the post-credits of Wolverine - he says "shhhhhh" to the audience). Overall, Reynolds is a good actor, he is rather perfect for the role of Deadpool as he is often sarcastic and overall funny.

lol @ #3....or with might be more like it...

That's why I didn't pay to see Wolverine.
sean on Jun 1, 2009
That would be great if they stayed close to the comics but they always say that.
Cat on Jun 1, 2009
Ryan Reynolds is one of your favourite actors? That's messed up.

... I like Ryan Reynolds alot too, but this being a Fox movie makes me highly skeptical... This is on te right track, and I'd like to see a good Deadpool movie, but I have my doubts... ...

Ryan Reynolds probably knows more about Deadpool than everybody here, he was honest about his character in the Wolverine movie, so i believe he is being honest here.
Darunia on Jun 1, 2009
I would watch this movie if Ryan was just standing in costume making wise cracks.

Stick to the comics please..

The movie could be made. Even using what happened in Wolverine, just a few lines of dialogue can put Deadpool back to how he should be: Head got chopped off, so he lost all but the regeneration power, the computer that was hooked to his brain fried, and made him the crazy, off the wall DP we all know an love. There, Fox, I fixed your fuck up. Hire me. I will make people love your movies again.

I don't trust Fox either, Alex. But the studio has already seen the reaction that Deadpool/Weapon XI generated among the fan base. They'd be absolutely stupid to continue down that road.

Why on Earth is Ryan Reynolds one of your favorite actors? What has he done that made you say "Yes! He is excellent!" because to me he's done nothing but shit. (Aside from Amityville Horror)
Syphous on Jun 1, 2009
It's FOX, they'll screw it up. Which comics would they cover anyhow? A bunch, a series, the beginning, middle, or end? This is ridiculous.
LSP on Jun 1, 2009
I just love Ryan and his involvement with the project makes me glad and excited too.I hope that he set things right this time and really go back to the roots of Wade and not screwing up the story by deviating from the story like FOX did with Wolverine.
Fisherr on Jun 1, 2009
I love that Ryan is still playing Deadpool. He just doesn't just sound like some actor. He sounds like a comic fan. Like someone who loves the comics and wants to make the best Deadpool movie that fans of the comic will like.

Well we know reynolds is a fan of deadpool. So if he can somehow have a large control over the script I think we will see a deadpool like the comics. I don't think reynolds will do the movie if it isn't true to the comics.....although he did do wolverine, but that could have been to show that he should play deadpool in a spinoff. All in all I am extremely excited. I've wanted a deadpool movie ever since the first xmen movie. I never in my wildest dreams thought that it would actually happen. I figured one of the more well known characters would get one. Deadpool movie= HELL YES!!
Dan W on Jun 1, 2009
I got hooked onto deadpool ever since the ultimate Alliance game and i have read atleast 20 of his comics. The only way they can mess this up is by continuing him from wolverine other than that it shouldnt be that hard to stay with classic deadpool
Jake on Jun 1, 2009
Unless Reynolds is writing, producing, directing and fianancing the film I can't believe what he says. He has no control over the final product. Fox f**king suck. They f**ked Wolverine like I said they would and this will be the same. Unless Marvel have total control over the film like they had with Ironman and The Incredible Hulk, Deadpool will be absolute shite!
Last Son on Jun 1, 2009
Didn't Fox already make a deadpool movie? Oh wait, sorry guys that was Dane Cook's Isolated Incident. I saw a guy with bad acne scars and lame jokes, I thought it was Fox's version of a Deadpool movie. Nevermind.
clippers350 on Jun 2, 2009
Well said Last Son. Reynolds ain't got no control over this thing, even after Wolverine, you guys still never learn. I can't wait to hear from all these Deadpool hopefuls 2-3 years from now how much it sucked and how much Fox F'd it up. Hope I'm wrong though, but that's only a .01% chance.
The One on Jun 2, 2009
isn't that what Jackman said? Jackman has infinitely more star power than Reynolds, so you would have thought HE was the man to get a proper big screen film about Wolverine. Face it, Fox are shit in every respect, and you can't accuse them of chasing money, because nearly every choice they make seems to LOSE them money! Wolverine had the potential to be close to the next Dark Knight, if done right. Instead it was more like fantastic 4 \ ghost rider level!
chrisUK on Jun 2, 2009
the worst part of x men origins wolverine was deadpool. i was pissed when his samurai swords came out of his fists, like wolverines claws. in the comic books he just uses his own ablility with the samurai swords. plus if you look at the comic book you see that he has his own swords. not ones that retract. i thought it was a huge let down, an can expect it in the spin off as well.
chiefwonton on Jun 2, 2009
Well I'm glad that they are making a Movie on Deadpool.. he's my favorite comic character. Also ryan fits the character himself... I really hope Fox doesn't F... up this movie... If they truley go by the comic itself... then it will be really good..
rjp on Jun 2, 2009
it's all lies they just told Ryan that so he would sign the contract. They also said that the wolverine movie was going to be like the comics but i must have missed the issue were they fuck up the entire time line.
Jon Bertrand on Jun 4, 2009
only thing that would make a good dead pool movie is if its R but knowing fox and sucking money outa what ever get its hands on...... comic idea...angry fans go up against a multimillion dollar film company
not me on Jul 17, 2009
deadpool is black so how is it like the comic, thas a bunch of crap if they make him a white guy then the movie will be a bust . and plus people will not like that shyt

Ryan Reynolds will be perfect for Deadpool. AND HE IS MY #1 FAVORITE ACTOR. I could care less what the rest of you think. Ryan is funny and hilarious and can be serious when he needs to be. He has proved to me that he can do this and HE WILL. You go Ryan! 🙂
