Ryan Reynolds Talks About His Excitement for Green Lantern
Its been roughly four months since we learned that Ryan Reynolds would be playing Hal Jordan in the Martin Campbell directed Green Lantern movie. Campbell is currently in pre-production in hopes of shooting sometime early next year. So obviously Reynolds has been getting ready to play Hal Jordan, even doing costume fittings. And in a recent MTV interview, Reynolds opens up about how excited he is. "I think, seeing the prototypes for the Green Lantern costumes was a huge moment. It was a moment when I was like, 'This is happening, and it's happening in the right way.' That's a pretty cool, definitive moment for me."
Reynolds also goes on to gush about Martin Campbell, pretty much saying he's the perfect director for this.
"I've known about Green Lantern my whole life, but I've never really followed it before. I fell in love with the character when I met with [director] Martin Campbell. When I sat down with him, I really got what it is that this guy is all about. When you have a guy like Martin Campbell, part of his charm is that he has balls of titanium, and the other part is that he's slightly crazy, and you have to be to take on something with the scope of Green Lantern. He's less of the director and more of a general. He just really knows strategies, he knows the intricacies, and his attention to detail! It's infectious. I sat down with him, and I could not even believe what he was saying. When I went to the meeting, I was entirely cynical. I thought, 'What the hell, I'll see what they have to say,' and I left the room with a completely different perspective."
This is great to hear, especially because this is one of the first times Reynolds has spoken out about the role and the movie since being cast. He obviously isn't talking about the story yet, but he does say something that should make you feel confident about the direction it's headed in. "This is a difficult industry to get anything made, let alone a passion project, so when you see people understand what your vision is and come aligned with that common goal, it's pretty cool. I'm including all the creative types that are actually involved with Deadpool and Green Lantern, because those guys want to make an authentic movie, and that's something a few years ago studios disregarded." Definitely sounds like this is in good hands. Now let's see the costume!

This gives me hopes. Reynolds seems like he really cares for this character.

I'm glad it's Reynolds playing this character because I had been hearing that Seth Rogan was playing this part. Seth Rogan? Was that ever even remotely valid at any point? If so, why don't they just cast Will Ferrell as the next James Bond.
jjboldt on Nov 25, 2009
Oops, my bad. Seth Rogan is going to be the Green Hornet, not Lantern. Still, my opinion of that casting is still the same.

green lantern sucks.
jackson on Nov 25, 2009
jjboldt why not give Rogen a chance? he has lost his weight and seems like he really cares for the Green Hornet?
xerxex on Nov 25, 2009
This should be decent but which one is getting done first? Green Lantern or Deadpool?
jake the snake on Nov 25, 2009
Ryan Reynolds can play superheroes perfectly. He was great as Deadpool in Wolverine and I am sure that he will great as the lantern. Its his confidence and his goody-two-shoes look that make him relatable and therefore a great superhero. As for Rogen, I guess he has money because I never imagined that he could play the Hornet. Its not because of his looks at all, its just all i've seen him do is play a pot head or a dimwit but I guess he will try and change his image with this movie.

lol, yea Reynolds does like he really wants to make a statement and knock it out o the park with his role....I can't wait @ jjboldt - re GH it's been his project from day one if not mistaken which shows that he is passionate about his film, anyway we got to give him that chance @ jackson - thanks for the Hatorade, lol now move on and Happy Thanksgiving lol @ jake the snake (roberts) lol GL is first, everything is set the only thing that would've held up is the location which was first thought to be Australia but it has now been set for New Orleans....film will be rolling come Jan 2010 so DP would probably be later in the year or next....I don't even think a final script is set nor director so it sounds far away

he's trying to hype the movie. What do you expect him to say? "Yeah we talked a little and everything's going ok. Just doing some costume fittings and I met the director." Like when you watch pre-released interviews and all the actors are talking about how great their co-stars and directors are and how excited they are for the movie. Same with sports teams. What else are they gonna say? This doesn't get me excited at all and it's dumb if you think Reynolds words makes this a great start. It's nothing bad of course either, but just chill out.

Ryan Reynolds always say things like this all the time come guys you forget he hyped up Deadpool in Wolverine and look what happens

@ blue and orange NY thanks for the info. And yes, my name is taken from Jake the snake roberts. He was the man.
JakeTheSnake on Nov 25, 2009
Ryan Reynolds could be EVERY superhero....think about it...picture any superhero (male obviously) then picture Ryan Reynolds as that character....just fits.....
ClerksFan on Nov 25, 2009
This guy was a perfect fit as "The Flash" and having already played TWO legit Marvel characters is a bit of overkill imho. Hannibal & Deadpool were portrayed in nearly the each same way and I sincerely hope he brings something else to the table and isnt a rehash of his other superhero roles..

his excited,i bet green lantern fans are more (the red lanterns & agent orange are much cooler)HUGO WEAVING FOR SINESTRO.(hurry up & start shooting DEADPOOL.)

Reynolds cares deeply about his role and Campbell is a strong director. I don't understand the doubt against him, but Reynolds can pull this off.
SlashBeast on Nov 25, 2009
Notice how he said when he saw the "Costumes"; plural. Granted the Green Lantern is a whole corps. full of alien members, but still...that line MIGHT be a hint at some of the other human GL's appearing.

I keep getting Hornet and Lantern mixed up. I think Reynolds can pull it off more than Rogan. Though I am old enough to remember how odd it sounded when Keaton was cast as Batman and he did pretty good. So maybe Rogan will work out as Hornet. Until I see it though, I'll have some doubts.
jjboldt on Nov 25, 2009
I just hope that Reynolds isn't going to try to be funny in this one.

yojoe on Nov 26, 2009
Colin you gotta remember that Hal Jordan was a cocky pilot, so there might be some comedy, hopefully subtle.
xerxex on Nov 26, 2009
Michael Keaton did good, not amazing.
SlashBeast on Nov 26, 2009
for fuck sake! All I see is Ryan Reynolds (Jim Carey wannabe) in a cheap green lantern costume. Fucking lame!! Dumb ass people. Oh and I fuck chickens
Dan Link on Nov 27, 2009
I would have rather seen Michael Hall (Dexter) as the Green Lantern.
