Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno Gets an NC-17 Rating!

Somehow, by some miracle, Sacha Baron Cohen and Fox were able to get the MPAA to allow a 3-minute naked fight scene between two brutally ugly men slide by as R rated in Borat in 2006. But apparently they MPAA is not being so lenient this time. The Wrap is reporting that Bruno, or more accurately titled Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Male, has been slapped with an NC-17 rating by the MPAA on its first pass. Obviously they're going to edit some of the overly sexual scenes so that it can get an R rating by the time it hits theaters in July. But so far this is some good news!
Apparently there are "numerous sexual scenes that the ratings board considers over the line." One of them involves Bruno appearing to have "anal sex with a man on camera." In the other, Bruno "goes on a hunting trip and sneaks naked into the tent of one of the fellow hunters," who, as we know, is one of Sacha Baron Cohen's unsuspecting victims caught on camera. So why is this good news? Because as ludicrous and awesome as Borat was, it sounds like Bruno is going to kick things up another notch, especially in the sexual department. Did anyone really think that Cohen would be able to top that 3-minute naked fight scene?
Apparently Borat got an NC-17 rating on its first pass, too, so this isn't exactly too shocking to hear. And considering Cohen has a little over 3 more months to finish editing this and get an R rating, it's likely we'll hear that it finally got the MPAA stamp of approval sooner than later. With this news, and all that I heard about the crazy footage shown at SXSW, it's easy to say that I truly am excited for Bruno this summer!

Somthing like / G...G-PG...PG...PG-PG13...PG-13...PG13-R...R...R+ Dark KNIGHT = PG13-R Iron man = PG13 Hellboy II = PG-PG13 Watchmen = R Borat = R+ Would that work? I dont know, probley too complicated

Come on, none of this is good news. It just shows how the MPAA is another form of censorship. Why even have the NC-17 rating if studios are afraid to use it? We should all just avoid the film in theaters and rent or buy the unrated DVD instead. From beyond the grave, Jack Valenti continues to smite us all.

#4-#5 They are missing one usable level of rating, #4 is right, cencorship is wrong in any form. But they do need to just rate the films as they are. They use **NC-17** as a threat. "Fix it or you wont make money". Was Borat worse than Watchmen? Borat = Two horrible men with a fist dildo. Watchmen = Milan Akerman banging Niteowl. Bruno cant be any worse.

I saw that documentary about the MPAA and thinks its funny that you americans agree on that system. A buncf of secret people deside the rating of a film based entireky on their own views, than if you fight the rating you can't give examples of other films that have had a lower rating etc. Funny system.

Does anyone else despise Sacha Baron Cohen? I didn't think Borat was funny at all, in fact I shut it off halfway through because I couldn't stand it anymore.

We've had this discussion before an Ill say it again, America should adopt the UK Films rating system. U - Everybody (Everyone admitted) PG - Parental Guidence (Everyone admitted) 12A - No-one under the age of 12 admitted without an adult. Changes to a '12' on DVD. 15 - No-one under the age of 15 admitted. 18 - No-one under the age of 18 admitted. Underage people do sneek in occasionally but most people just wait for the DVD release and watch at home. People respect it without much questioning, plus, theres zero chance of a kid sitting next to you shitting himself while you're watching Friday the 13th!

#12 What purpose does 12 or 15 really have? The difference between 3 extra F-bombs? Besides, most massive budget movies are made for American audiences. If you are a studio financing this, you are hoping to reach as many people as you can by having a lower rating system. I'm not saying that it's right, but 9 out of 10 movies are just looking turn a huge profit and that's why the majority of movies these days lack originality, substance, and a scene you were probably expecting to see, but ends up being a shadow of it. #9 I don't know what your talking about, I don't think that anal of any kind is going to give you less than a porn rating.

I love that he'll be confronting homophobia in this regard. To me, the crasser the better. I can't wait to be in the audience with the same guys who couldn't handle the naked fight scene.

All films are made with the dream of making profit, the hope of breaking even, and the sinking reality that you are going to lose money. Big studios don't have to worry about an NC-17 as the system is rigged to protect their products from indie and non-American cinema competition. Studio films that do get an NC-17 have been either thrown under the bus because someone powerful at the studio has a beef with it or its a loss for taxes. NC-17 for indie film,,,not so much. Bruno, ifl like the great Borat is easy to edit and an NC-17 first rating is perfect to hype the film. And as far as England goes, remember you guys had the "Video Nasties" not us.

Why the F do you guys wanna see gay anal sex anyway? They can cut that out for all I care, I wanna see some damn funny stuff but I don't necessarily think that's funny, and no gross as F doesn't = funny. Yes I know its not real but I still don't wanna see that, I could have seen Borat without the naked wrestling too, it would have still been hilarious without that. I think the MPAA here sounds like its doing its job just fine.

Bruno Gets an NC-17 Rating??? Does it mean you can watch it with parents? =) I have to make a confession, I went to see this with my mom and brothers =)))) Can you imagine my mom seeing all those sex and nudity scenes? One brother is 22, the other is 13 (Michael). My mom felt a little uncomfortable the whole movie, but when the swingers party scene came up she just about lost it. Me and my older brother just kept telling her that Michael would have seen it anyways and that she wasn't a bad parent 😀
