Sam Raimi's Evil Dead Coming Back to Theaters Next Year!

Hey, it's Halloween! So how about some of the best damn horror news you'll hear all year long? Grindhouse Releasing is bringing Sam Raimi's original horror classic The Evil Dead back to the big screen next year as a midnight movie. Raimi and producers Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell gave the go-ahead for a series of Evil Dead revival screenings taking place around the nation starting early next year. "Nothing can prepare an audience for what they are about to see, because nothing punishes an audience like Evil Dead - especially on the big screen," Bruce Campbell said. "I'm really glad it's back. People are gonna be hurt." Oh hell yes!
A special screening of the Evil Dead trilogy sold out L.A.'s New Beverly Cinema this summer (I was there!). With a remake reportedly in the works, this theatrical release gives fans a chance to experience the original as it was intended to be seen. The Evil Dead will screen at various Landmark Theaters in the US, the Mayfair Cinema in Canada, and other venues to be announced in early 2010. I'm a huge fan of the Evil Dead series, but I've got to admit that I'm partial to Army of Darkness first, Evil Dead II second, and The Evil Dead last. I just love the comedy and the awesomeness of the sequels much more than the original. How about you?

This is great, but they'd better open up more venues in Canada, cause I'm only in Toronto - I want to see this !!! For me, its Evil Dead 2, first then Evil Dead, then Army of Darkness.

While this sounds like a good idea, I don't see why they have to wait a year to release this movie. Don't theaters constantly play old movies without any hype? It must be to let more people know about its re-release in theaters, and get them anticipating.

Evil Dead 2 (despite pacing issues), Army of Darkness, Evil Dead. But they are all so close.

Yup, I thought the movies got better with every sequel. The original, however has some great moments though!

It's really bad to admit this but I've never seen any of the Evil Dead films...I've heard nothing but good things and now I think I'll wait to view them when they come back to the big screen. Really looking forward to it!

You almost have to seperate the first Evil Dead from the others. i really can't say which one i like the best but i have them all. The Evil Dead on the big screen is gonna be huge, i really wish i was around in 1980 just to have seen it on the big screen, but now i can!

Awesome news. They could do a big marketing blitz and have big banners that say "Join Us"
