Samuel Bayer Directing Nightmare on Elm Street Reboot

As everyone will see in just a few more days, Platinum Dunes has successfully rebooted the Friday the 13th franchise in a good way. So up next for Dunes' producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form is A Nightmare on Elm Street, the series tormented by the villain Freddy Krueger. We've heard plenty about the idea for the reboot, including that Arachnophobia and Cape Fear writer Wesley Strick has been working on the script, but we didn't know who would be directing. Thanks to a tip on the Risky Business blog, we've learned that music video director Samuel Bayer will be taking on this new Nightmare on Elm Street.

This will be Bayer's feature directorial debut, although he's not exactly a newcomer. Bayer is a music video director responsible for a lot of the iconic videos of the last decade, including Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Blind Melon's "No Rain." Bayer also has a heist movie called Brilliance in the works and is attached to direct a project called Fiasco Heights. Unlike the new Friday the 13th, this reboot is said to be a lot like the first Nightmare on Elm Street, which hit theaters back in 1984. This should be a fantastic debut for Bayer and although I'm not a fan of Wes Craven's classic, I'm already excited for this reboot.

Hire Michael Rosenbaum as Freddy! His name got floated last year by the internet rumormill and I've loved it ever since. He'll do this icon justice.

boy oh boy oh boy is it just me or is anyone else expecting a Lassie reboot in the next couple of years, or maybe a the Smurfs, hey what about a Care Bears reboot, that shot rock the box office once more. I really liked all the movies "back then": Superman, Batman, Freddy you name it, I loved it! But does everything have to have a reboot these days. I guess this has been discussed thru and forth somewhere else, but I just wanted to drop my five cents aswell...

Samuel Bayer is perfect for this. Just check out his video for Metallica's "Until It Sleeps."

The guy directed Merilyn Manson's video "Coma White", which is one of the best videos I've seen. And it was very creepy too.

I think he’ll do great with this movie, his music videos rock. I was just reading some great reviews of the old movies on EverHype and people love this horror franchise, so you can’t go wrong there. Plus, his music videos are the “classics” that stand out in my head.

"Unlike the new Friday the 13th, this reboot is said to be a lot like the first Nightmare on Elm Street, which hit theaters back in 1984" Bayer should make the story his own, and keep the most memorable scenes (Being thrown around the bedroom then cut up, Sinking into the bed, etc.). I also read on IMDB they are trying to get an A-List actor for Freddy. They should aim for Billy Bob Thornton.

I'm a really big fan of Freddy and I really hope this shit doesn't suck because Robert Englund is and will always be Freddy and whoever they get to replace him better be ready to fill the claws of a great. cause I mean yeah jason and michel are easy to replace because THEY DON'T TALK, but Freddy does and the voice was everything, so I a lil' of both happy and disapointed about the idea of A Nightmare on Elm Street remake. P.S. I agree with #12 that Robert Knepper would be a fuckin' kick ass Freddy Krueger

I think Robert Knepper would be the best choice.
