August 19, 2009

James Cameron and Sigourney Weaver

A mere 10 hours before the trailer for James Cameron's Avatar debuts online, Fox has sent over six new photos to feature tonight. Not only is there a breathtaking new still from the trailer, but four new character photos of many of the actors we haven't even seen yet (not even in the Comic-Con footage)! Seen below are shots of Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine as well as Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Lang, and Sam Worthington as Jake Sully. So in essence, these photos should hold us over until tomorrow morning, because all will be revealed when the trailer hits. Feast your eyes on these new beauties below!

Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine on the planet Pandora who, as an Avatar - a human mind in an alien body - finds himself in a desperate fight for his survival and that of the indigenous beings called Na'vi.

Avatar is both written and directed by Oscar winning visionary filmmaker James Cameron, of Piranha II, The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, True Lies, and Titanic previously. He has been developing the technology to make this movie for the last 10 years. 20th Century Fox is bringing James Cameron's Avatar to both IMAX and regular theaters in 3D around the world on December 18th.

the first one isn't bad, maybe i'll have to see this in action. But i still don't see the end result (from the pictures) revolutionary. Of course Im not judging the film by the photos, im not saying the film will look as ordinary as this, i'm just saying, from what I see, there is nothing special to these photos.

Al on Aug 19, 2009

Wow. Really Al?

Fuelbot on Aug 19, 2009

im just waiting for that damn trailer!!

jelipe on Aug 19, 2009

Besides that first one, these are just character shots... And that first one is BARELY a glimpse at what this will look like. Just wait until the trailer hits tomorrow!!

Alex Billington on Aug 19, 2009

OMG Sam Worthington with hair!

bltzie on Aug 19, 2009

haha! I'm sooo glad you threw Piranha II into his bio. Good one Alex

DoomCanoe on Aug 19, 2009

The general looking dude looks like he just got done with vacation. He has a really good tan with his funny hair cut and little vest. other than that the pictures dont say anything to me. we will see in the morning.

eric estrada on Aug 19, 2009

Guys, seriously, i'm still holding out for the trailer, im not judging the film based on these stills, its just between these and the one released the other day, its just no different from CGI. So will I wait until I watch the film to make my final call, of course, but when everyone flips and says, "HOLY SHIT THESE STILLS ARE AMAZING" well, I think they are frankly jumping the gun.

Al on Aug 19, 2009

Sam Worthington with hair? he looks like an aussie surfer

HallHCoverage on Aug 19, 2009

lol...didnt recognized Sam Worthington in 2nd pic...only 9 hrs to go....dying to watch the trailer...the 1st pic looks awesome...and please dont judge the movie only by a pic....

HellBoy on Aug 19, 2009

11, for the last time, I am not judging the movie. I am judging the picture. only the picture. My god, when I say, "From What I See" don't people know that means, "From What I See"

Al on Aug 19, 2009

Photos are okay, but still very excited for this..Sigourney Weaver in scifi again!! Please Avatar, be good. #6, I love the hair on Sam!

cyn on Aug 19, 2009

Hopefully Michelle doesn't die in this one...

zeldaprimed on Aug 19, 2009

Holy crap if you increase that first image with the ships you can deffentially tell how big that one ship is on the right. It's effing huge. Those battle scenes are going to be epic. Also Stephen Lang looks like a badass and twice the size of Worthington. You can tell he could easily beat the living crap out of him.

wrongturn687 on Aug 19, 2009

Is this movie gonna have nuclear bombs in it, like in almost all the other James Cameron movies? I kinda think the guy is afraid of nuclear war 😉

bracomadar on Aug 19, 2009

Is that a mullet?

Cat on Aug 19, 2009

... I'm going to have to agree with Al here... These photos don't really strike me as revolutionary film making material. But I'm waiting for the trailer tomorrow until making a final call. ...

Mondo Jay on Aug 19, 2009

It looks cool in 2d also i can't wait to watch it in imax 3d i have my tickets booked .I know the film is good and i know what to except from this movie james cameron is back

joe on Aug 19, 2009

Ok, PLEASE someone who actually knows whats going on (ALEX attention!!) ARE ALL THESE PHOTOS COMPLETELY COMPUTER GRAPHICS? If these are rendered from a computer then this is truly undeniably revolutionary just on that basis alone. If this is some kind of hybrid photograph / CGI then please explain. People have been hyping up this technology for so long now that when we actually see these photos, it really doesnt look like any of it is in CGI. Which is a very good thing, if in ficat, it is true CGI. Can anyone confirm this. I'm tired of seeing these post : "This really isnt that crazy, I mean its just sam standing there" BUT IF THATS SAM STANINDG THERE IN FULL CGI THEN WE HAVE ENTERED THE NEXT STAGE OF COMPUTER IMAGERY. Someone who really knows please inform the masses!!

Scott on Aug 19, 2009

ok while i admit that ships are probably easier to cgi than creatures, that first shot, from ships to the background mountains, is totally photoreal. im excited for this movie for the first time since the comic con banner

mcgruff on Aug 19, 2009

^ That first photo above (here) is completely 100% CGI... But everyone after it is completely practical with sets. Only that first one (so far) is all CGI.

Alex Billington on Aug 19, 2009

# 19, none of the people in those shots are cgi

mcgruff on Aug 19, 2009

Can you say recycle? Dropship, ops and Vasquez *yawn*

Flynn O'Connor on Aug 19, 2009

is this even suppose to resemble the cartoon in any way??

Kenji on Aug 19, 2009

the first shoot is great if this is going to be an R rated sci fi war movie

rowdy on Aug 19, 2009

I'm like 1/2 really excited to see the trailer and 1/2 not, because I think that what I see it I'll be like, that was awesome... but not to the extent that its been hyped, I almost feel like NOT watching it in 3D or with the 3D technology they have been talking about, etc, will take away from the whole hype about this, anyone else feel that way?

Richard on Aug 19, 2009

Michelle Rodriguez......and Zoe Saldana.....I don't give a shit if it was in black and white....I'm down cause they're in the movie alone!!!!!

Stan 'The Viewers Choice' Morrow (Facebook ya boy!!!) on Aug 19, 2009

@ 24 Hahahahahahahahahahahaha no. Wrong movie. JC making a Nickelodeon cartoon remake = lol, that's a boat for M. Night Shayamalan (which he is).

Dan Mace on Aug 20, 2009

Why don't you make the final call when you've seen the fucking film? Why pass judgement on an advertisement?

bob on Aug 20, 2009

Hehehehe. The first picture almoust looks like it is from command & conquer.

Nicolas on Aug 20, 2009

The 1st picture looks to much like some FMV from a computer game to me in stead of photo real CGI, Still cant wait to see the trailer tho or the Movie...... only 4 hours till the trailer hits on :o)

LV 426 on Aug 20, 2009

It doesn't look bad seeing the first pic. But isn't the official trailer gonna hit on 21st of august instead of 20th august? Seeing at the dates posted, this article was posted the 19th and they say its gonna hit the day after on 20th August. Or is there anyone else that had an update about the new Avatar-day?

box3r on Aug 20, 2009

@12 i didnt replied on your comment buddy....but still instead of saying there's nothing special in the photo you need to appreciate the hard work that has gone into creating such CGI....that kind of scene cant be created in a day....

HellBoy on Aug 20, 2009

The lighting in this film is quite strange, I like it. I'm sure visually this film is going to be mad, so far anything I've seen looks a bit concept-art-ish from the cheesy end, but I think Cameron knows how to make a great film

Crapola on Aug 20, 2009

This is gonna be so sick. The scar on that dudes face is badass. I can only imagine the scale and epic action cameron's going for. He definitely wants to hit this one out of the park. Love to be in any of his films, even if I'm killed off.

Nick Sears on Aug 20, 2009

please dont prejudge about AVATAR.everybody knows Great James Cameron Always doing the BEST.please wait december 18,i beleive a visual storm is coming to cinema, like T_2 ,Aliens,Titanic,True Lies,...wait and see...
